How many of you have kept items of sentimental value knowing that you'll never use them again ?
I ask as I have a set of Bruce Ashby rods that I caught my first 30s and 40s on that are just sat there doing nothing and most probably will never see the light of day again . I have considered selling them but know I'll regret it
I'm curious as to whether I'm just being an idiot keeping them or if there are plenty of others like me

I have a loft full of stuff that i keep thinking of selling but cannot be bothered.
all the stuff i have sold in the last few years a i regret to some degree.

There was a member on here called Ruggles,anyway he gifted me a Mitchell 3.0.0..boomarang check,think version 5 ,late fifties..wont part with that..
Also a original sod pod,mint....given as a present by family,travelled all the way by bus to Exeter angling...the chap who sold it to me was called Hiram,lovely guy...who has now passed on...wont sell that either..

I'm a fishing tackle horder always keep things I'll never use but just might I buy things because there cheap or just for buyings sake it's an illNess it's called being an angler we never have enough rods then we need a reel to go with it and it goes on then we use them once a decade to justify keeping them because all we use is are lucky rod and it starts again lol
Still got the plug I caught my first pike on. I was fishing with Chris Tarrant in the early 80's and it was one of his plugs. I was 11 years old.

Had the same sort of experience fishing with Jimmy Saville, caught a good fish and kept all the tackle. Big difference was that afterwards he let me milk a cow blindfolded

Lovely chap Adam, unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago.
What a collection of things he had built up over the years - worthy investments for his son and daughter

I have 2 items of tackle that I take on every trip that I've had since I first started “proper” carp fishing 20 years ago. A Fox Trigger lock landing net that I still use and for some bizarre reason a Fox baiting needle but I don't use that anymore but it's stays in my tackle box
I don't know why I keep the baiting needle but I'd be gutted if I ever lost it. Likewise if my net ever failed. Maybe it's because they are the only 2 surviving items of my original “proper” carping kit

I've still got the 10ft fibreglass rods my mate gave me so I could carp fish with him. Never going to get used again but I'll never sell them. Had them over 40 years.

Memory not great but I'm sure I bought a pin off ruggles and went to collect on my bike, spent ages there talking bikes and pins.

The thing for me is I did sell 2 things I should never have done and instantly regretted it, I only sold my pod to justify buying a new one, but I was probably being realistic saying I'd never use the old 1 again.
It was a Solar Sod pod, converted to remove the boss off the spigot and a small tripost with a hole drilled through the base so you could stick a screwdriver through it to tighten it up to stop it slipping. It took me a year to pay it off from Trafford Anglers on credit and I had it from the early/mid 90"s to around 5 years ago. That pod saw all my personal bests up until 2 years ago. I did contact the Ebay buyer saying if he ever wanted to sell it I'd buy it back. He did get back to me to let me know he'd had a change of mind on his water and it was just gathering dust in his shed :-(
The other was my Fox RX alarms to fund a TXi purchase.
Other than that I've kept nearly all my stuff considering , coarse and Carp, I guess its worth more sentimentally than financially.

My first fishing rod my Dad bought me id imagine about 1972/3 from Woolworths ... I do still use it once a year
He sadly passed away in 2002 and when clearing the house I found it ... Ive posted this before but I got it refurbished with new cork handle and rings etc .... Its fibreglass and so whippy its hilarious
But he passed away in July and since getting it done up every year on the anniversary I take a few hours out the day and go fishing where he first took me when 4 or 5 years old ... No sadness just happy memories of sunny days and coleslaw sandwiches
Its priceless to me that rod .... No idea where the reel has gone though

That's awesome , I lost my dad 3 years ago and still have his landing net which he never had a 20 in ....needless to say I've put that right now

I had to leave a lot of stuff behind about 20 yrs ago including some of my old fishing gear. The bit I miss most is my old wicker creel that dad got for me when I was a kid I took stuff out of that and put it in a plastic pile of rubbish. I did manage to take my mk4 and Mitchell 300.. these days II struggle to get rid of any thing although I have cleared some stuff recently that I know I will regret. My kids think I have a problem... they may be right.
Still have my first fishing rod which I got when I was 6 for Christmas. Was an intresting Christmas that when Santa Claus stupidly didn't realise the rod and reel combo came with a couple of small Mepps type spinners. Cue a 4 hour wait in casualty at 4am amongst the drunken Christmas Eve revellers getting said spinner removed from my finger.
I had loads more gear than I needed after continually upgrading the past 35 years .
In the end I gave a lot of it away to young anglers who were keen but didn't have the money for decent gear

I've still got most of m original gear and also inherited some rods and reels from my old fishing buddy, I'll never get rid of any of it. One day I'm going to dust off my old Bruce & Walker MkIVs and Mitchell 300's and go back to the lake i started my carp fishing on to see if they still catch, I suspect they will!
Also one side story is that I sold some reels a few years ago to a friend at a really cheap price as he wanted to get back into carp fishing, I kept telling him that they weren't ideal for his fishing (mostly small waters) as they were big pit reels anyway he insisted, so he got a really good deal and also some other bits and bobs either for nothing or really cheaply for his son. I found out later that he immediately sold on the reels for a profit! He doesn't know that I know that but suffice to say he's never getting a good deal from me again.

I keep every rig I've caught on , I'm on my first spool of braided horse hair😀
My first carp rods were made by Sundridge and had red plastic inserts holders..lovely
I got shot of these when I started work and purchase 2 1/4lb tc Tricast legends
I still have these , went crazy buying everything for a few years
A Nash over warp , solar satellite monkies sea spins , my friend still has the sea spins
And still complains I overcharged him 😂
I keep every rig I've caught on , I'm on my first spool of braided horse hair😀

I still have my three original Cardinal 55's. They're utterly mint too - have been offered silly money for them many times over, but just can't part with them.
I do very occasionally use them - but it is a bit like owning a vintage car, they only see daylight on special occasions. LOL. For most of the time, they sit on a shelf and just look pretty. I actually worked three part time jobs as a teenager to buy them and matched to my KM1's, I was the envy of all my mates at the time. Wish I'd kept the KM'S though. Big mistake selling those

Spot on Adam, I spent lots of time talking to him, so knowledgable and patient, bought my first set of Delkim TXI from him, if I could have seen the future I would never let them go, I have a rod pod that was owned by Tony Higgins (owner of Cuttle Mill in the 80's) still have that, have sold many things and regretted selling most of them.

I'm a bit of a hoarder with my old gear, sold very little of it. My prized possession is my late fathers MKIV rod, even though he removed the original rings and replaced them with fuji's about 30 years ago... I've still got his old delkim conversions, gardner pod, original kevin nash luggage, original KM style bed. Could never part with any of it. I've also still got the rig I caught my 1st twenty on 30 years ago. !5lb merlin with a size 6 sprite hook.
