It will be the usual bun fight !! I wouldn't fish that venue but if people want to let them crack on. Fishing is about enjoyment and relaxing if your enjoying it and it's relaxing that's the most important thing.

Nuff said, team England, British record, the stars align and dreams come true, is it an unknown too

then as soon as that king is gone one or two will step forwards

That's what you get fishing stock ponds. Conveyor belt carping. The king is dead, long live the king lol. Fish farming of the highest level

I'm out this week fishing for some stunning wrong uns. Don't worry lads, if im lucky enough to catch a 100lber I won't be claiming. I'm a man of principles

Record fish committee will decide if it's a claim, again...then justice will be done

Clarissa, Mary, Captain sprat The stuff of legend lol

Can't knock the man for fishing for it and catching it myself. Claiming the British record, now that's debatable

Agreed. The places exist, rightly or wrongly so if someone chooses to pay their hard earned to fish there and end up catching a lump then so be it. I am unlikely to fish there myself but equally wouldn't automatically say no if an invite came along. Definitely not a record though in my opinion and most other peoples

Watching Micky Gray's podcast , he mentioned some people's history are in the future , and will be made as they are fishing for today's fish . Not my cup of tea , but it is for plenty of others . The angler obviously knows crap will fly , but at some point a claim will be made and accepted .

As my old mate Maylin used to say , "who are they to judge us when we are just having fun"

For the same reason that captain jack wasnt. The fish was imported from israel and stocked at a decent weight as opposed to as a c1-c3. Also, the lake is fed with a massive amount of pellet to make the fish weigh what are essentially artificial weights

Id personally love to catch a 70lb'er and not have to go to france etc. to do so but its not an english record for me

It seems to me that these are personal boundaries and limits. Where does it all end? You say C1/C3, would a C4 not be acceptable, a C5, C6? What about we only accept the fry of introduced fish as anything that's even remotely deemed worthy?

You mention fish feed on pellets which gives them their enormous record breaking weights is a no no, and pilling in kilo after kilo of high nutritional value baits that get emptied into nigh on every water up and down the country on a daily basis is acceptable if a fish breaks the record, that's ok? You see where this all breaks down? Should we only accept records if they've lived their whole lives on natural baits and you catch a record on a worm?

As for imported fish, are they not all imports? They're not native to this country are they? I do see your point which is valid.

Please, don't take this as any kind of personal attack as that is not my intention and not meant that way. I too am not a fan of these waters, I'm just offering an opinion as this is all very muddy and not so clear cut to my thinking 🙂

I'm going to sound so argumentative, lol. Not trying to be

Hasn't carp fishing always been commercialised to one degree or another? Dickie walker with his MK IV'S, Kevin Maddocks with his bait, books and range of rods, Hutchinson with his vast supply of bait, tackle, books etc, Kevin Nash was about ages and ages ago flogging his gear.

I know what you're saying as I see it's got to a point of saturation and every man and his dog is trying to get those Carpy $'s. Makes you wanna take up fly fishing. I try and navigate my way through the madness trying my best just to enjoy the type of angling I've dedicated most of my life to the best I can.

Im going with why the record committee refused to accept captain jack and i totally agree with them

Im not knocking the fish or the lake though. It is what it is and although it doesn't give me what i want from carp fishing, id still happily fish the lake from a social point of view and with the issues around covid preventing people travelling to france etc. it 100% has its place, but id fish it with my eyes fully open to the fact that anything from there, regardless of size, simply doesnt constitute a record fish.

If it's a legally imported fish and that it went in at 39lb? I think it'll stand. In all fairness, I couldn't care one way or another. After Yates's fish, they all seem ridiculous to me.

I had a chance of going on the list for Grenville, when I realized what it was all about, I ditched the idea all together. Felt sordid and perverse. Not my bag at all. To each their own.

It seems I'm the same as quite a few on here I'd fish it on a social but that's about it and if I caught a record sized fish I certainly wouldn't claim it. For me it flies in the face of all the history fish this country still had it should be something natural and special not a carp imported and stocked at nearly 40lb

these lakes offer the chance for anyone to turn up and have the chance to catch the fish of a a life time. not everyone can afford £2000 a year for a syndicate, or are lucky enough to know people to get onto the lakes that hold these acceptable big fish, or have the time to put in at somewhere like burghfield, although I don't imagine that is easy to get onto. if people choose to fish them, who cares, as long a they enjoy it. British record or not, who really cares, I don't even know what the current record carp is, nor do I let it bother me.

I have fished Home Fen a few times and really enjoyed it, they were 5 night sessions with mates and we had a good social and caught a few along the way.

It really grinds my gears that people wouldn't even consider wetting a line there but would happily jump on the ferry and fish the same venues for the same type of fish over in France.....Home Fen isn't pretending to be anything more than it is, it's not an historic UK venue with Leney strain fish, it's a commercial venue, nothing more, nothing less but because it is this side of the channel it is all kinds of wrong.....

Treat it for what it is, a UK based commercial fishery that can be booked for a holiday week with mates......just like France..... ...if people want to fish it anymore than that by booking odd nights that become available or taking out a winter syndicate ticket then so what, that's called personal choice.

That's my take on it now mate - 10 years ago i would be gobbing off and be part of the wrong un gang. To be honest, i cant be arsed with anymore. Carp angling is a circus and full of clowns looking for some fantasy ego elevation and a bag of free bait, no point in getting excited about it anymore.

I think the GE video finished it off for me and emphasized how far detached i am from modern carp angling.

Well done to matey in having that fish - well deserved and best of luck.

Be lucky.

I know where you're coming from. Thing is, if you stay away from the likes of YouTube and commercial fisheries, there is a wealth of waters long forgotten that still keep that internal flame burning brightly, or find an inland sea where there's f**k all in it cept a few good-un's and you won't get pestered by the nutters babbling on 'you alright mate, fishing the ronnie mate, you on the krill, nice buzzers them mate, they harrisons?'

What a carp fishing circus it has turned into !!

We will probably never hear of it, when one of the low key/ under the radar / proper 60/70 lb English carp gets caught.
They do exist, I'm sure. No publicity and all that.

My pennies worth. I don't even view those types of venues or the guys that consider that proper carp angling as even taking part in the same past time as me. It's so far away from what I do and I struggle to relate to it so much that I see it now as a two tier hobby. There's what I'd consider proper carp angling and there's commercial/holiday fishing. They are not the same thing.

It's like motor racing. Lots of guys take their car or bike to a track day. They have a wonderful fun day and get lots out of it but no one thinks it's the same as F1 do they? Both motorsport, but both totally different. Nothing wrong with either. Carp fishing these days is no different. I know a chap who goes to commercial stocked to bursting waters in France a few times a year. He shows me pictures of various 40s-50s-60s. Leaves me cold. I'd take a savay double over any one of those till the day I die.

I just read the article about this capture on Carpfeed. It mentioned that the other "record breaker" (lol), Captain Jack, has died. I'm pretty sure the water only opened to fishing in 2014, these are very young fish. Just like the Big Rig fiasco innit, obese to the point of deformity and ultimately death. I guess these premature departures are at least putting them out of their misery.

Ain't natural

Stocked at stupid weights to draw the.punters in. Nothing more than financial gain £, purely businesss and no respect for the history of this magnificent pastime

Stocked into artifical environments where all the competion for.food has been removed. Enter the carp anglers who are conditioned to put bucketsful of bait in. It's a win win

Like.some have mentioned, France on the doorstep and it is for me. For the working .man, paradise, and why not, that's why we go fishing, to catch big.carp, and why not, the working man can now catch lumps like these so called stars

It's the stocking weights that's wrong and need capping for viable record claim

Good news is they turn over quick, they will run out of.stupid.names eventually

Perfect for the working man though. Imagine when one of these gets accepted as the record, I can imagine the ques, oh wait, the records **** all now, but everybody would want a piece £££££££££

I can imagine the ques and fights at the gates because everybody wants to get their name down in carp fishing history. The only gains are people making a killing from it and the idiots with no scruples who want to be famous, look at me, me, me, me, me, me, me

I don't get why people get all in knots over the record. All it is, is a recording of history. In this case its the largest recorded fish of a certain species to be caught up until that point... It isn't a recording of its credibility or how hard it is to catch. Or how "cool" it is. Or what its history is.

I think it should stand as a record should the captor wish to claim it. Same as the big spawn bound one should have stood, if the captor had decided to claim it.

There are probably 1000's of "cooler" or more "credible" fish out there but they aren't that big and that is the bottom line.

There's a massive difference between the survivours than all these hand reared stock fish and it's not just lbs and oz for the masses. If you appreciate big old carp that is of course unless your just interesred in lbs and oz. Then that's all that matters

That's the thing. In most sports records do relate to credibility. In fact, I think that link still applies to other species, that aren't stocked at crazy weights. Personally, I think they should ditch the carp record. Still valid for many other species imo.

Hi All

My personal opinion on carp records:

The UK record is open to so much abuse how much value does it actually hold anymore? Most fisheries stock and feed in winter, should stocking weights and feeding levels really count? And as for death threats?
France? Don't make me laugh. They invented excessive feeding on small venues to create sexy monsters.
Germany: Ticket holders only, you can only catch records if you have enough cash to get on the best fed lakes
Eastern Europe, big split, most nglers won't claim unless they are connected to a bait company, but euro aqua dominates
Australia, well no one claims because you have to kill the fish to claim the record.
So what are records really worth? In my opinion nothing. It's all personal. The sunrise, the first run, the bump off the fin and the lift of the landing net when you get the first peek,
Records for me mean nothing, the little memories though are priceless

Best

I actually agree with you.

I would prefer that the Parrot still held the record, for it is a credible fish. The Hoome Fen fish has no credibility, zilch, but it is bigger and should hold the record, though the Wingham fish could have silenced the imports/Israelis for years!

Have two records. One for naturally grown carp and one for the biggest carp caught in the UK. So both could be the same fish (not likely). Think the trout record is similar to this. This keeps the keep it real people happy and also the people fishing for these monster fish. There shouldn't need to a be a claim for the record if it's the biggest fish caught then it's the record

Tbats what they do with trout, wild ones and farmed.

One word for me, merit

Something that has been force feed and dropped in a pond at say 40lb has zero credability to one that's been swimming around for years before it came on the radar

As for the British record I will never fish for it, not unless it was in reasonable distance from where I live, if I liked the venue and the fish so let's say, no chance. Now if the British record is the pinnacle of carpfishing in the UK, the thing that we all aspire to, think the Burghfield common, not some stupid stock fish, conveyor belt carping, her today, gone tomorrow, where's Jack the joke now

Its all about fame and fortune and what type of fish people are catching that decides what is right and wrong

Myself, I am in carpfishing for myself and take absolutely nothing from it other than pleasure so all those greedy and desperate people can knock themselves out for me

Said it before, when it's all ****ed up, told you so

Save our beautiful game!

I see there is a group calling for an independant body to save football. Think I might start one, save out beautiful pastime

No imported fish, ever

All fish to be from British farmers, support or growers

All future claims to have stocking picture and records from British farmers

Max stock size for record claim 20lb, I. Been generous here....

Ban all Chinese tackle imports, manufacturing in the UK only

Ban idiots, all blogs to be approved, nice on the eye!

The spawnbound Wingham fish should have taken the record, much like the spawnbound mid-northants fish did back in the 90's when Roddy Porter and then Alex White held the record. No different IMO. That would have given us a few more years for any fish to catch it up.

As has also been pointed out there is a sustainability issue. All the great record fish of this country were older fish that have lived long lives. Slowly putting the weight on naturally. Big rig, jack and now this one Marshall is it?? They don't live long because they are bred to pack weight on fast and subsequently their body can't cope and they die it's not sustainable or tbh ethical, we as anglers already get c**p from non anglers that we are cruel despite the care we take of the fish when we catch one, don't think we need to add force fed pellet pigs to the list
