I occasionally see some on Gumtree as well as eBay. They usually sell for 450-500 for three I have however seen them sell for more if upgrades have been added ..... Western spools, handle change.
Maybe put a wanted add on Tackle trader.

I picked mine up for 400 with no upgrades.
youll get a decent set with western spools/line clips maybe slow oscillation shafts if you are lucky.
battered sets are paramount to how good these reels are.

bare in mind.
quick drag caps and upgraded line clips (must have!) will be another 110 quid if you buy Weston upgrades.

The standard drag is the best thing about tournies imo. Apart from line clips they're best left standard I reckon.
They come up on FB market place quite frequently but 2nd hand prices are stupid at the mo. Buying new ain't a bad idea if you ring around and get a deal.

Agree drag is great. Line clips can be replaced if they break. Mine are still going strong.

Deffo agree, for the sake of a few quid get new ones and have the peace of mind that they havent been ragged. Some of the ones you see for sale second hand could, although still appear in good condition, be 15+ years old...

You won't find any good condition used ones... hence the lack of availability! I've 4,the three that get used regularly are battered even though I look after them, the forth is used on my syndicate where 4 rods are allowed or on the floater gear, it's still in “near perfect condition”😂 Buy new, accept the cost get the line clips upgraded, drag..I've a mix of nylon,carbon and original drag washers... used only for the takes and then backwind, I'm used to the Mitchell 300S!!, they all seem okay to me..
Rough loud and gnarly but they are good plus they always get a comment or two unfortunately only from the carpy brigade

I bought 3 new 6ks several years ago defo worth servicing. Bought a second hand one which needed a new spindle which cost me £180 once serviced.

I agree. I have bought a few sets of 6000's and 5000's in good second hand condition, but they always feel rough compared to new ones. It kind of goes against this myth that tournies are bomb proof etc. They are barely waterproof!

I will shortly be eBaying my friends for him I'm just waiting for a pound selling fee offer, they have only been used once and were only purchased a month ago, they have ungraded line clips and speed caps I believe from Weston developments, they are as new ! Think he wants to try and get around £700, wish I could have them but can't at the moment, the boss won't let me as she thinks another set of reels is stupid!! She just doesn't understand !

Well, it's hypothetical as none I'm talking about have been around that long yet, but technium 10000xt, 10 years and still fine. Suppose if you look after them, a fair few Top end reels should be fine And last longer than necessary. Never had a problem with ISO's in 6 years either.

This is true. It may be superior in the fact it's still in development and can still gets parts. But that doesn't make it a better reel.
Well apparently weight savings makes a better reel, I use shimsno xt 10000's and they are quite heavy. But they are superior in the fact they are 10 times smoother in the shop and about 200 times smoother on the bank after a years use. Better line lay but there's also argument that better line lay doesn't necessarily mean longer casts BUT I like better line lay
And you could always put a trailer on your mclaren f1 for said sheets and materials

Yes the 10k techs are a fine reel, if you need any parts though it is just a fine paperweight

Just sold an old set of three to a mate with Weston spools for £100 he probably needs to spend at least £150 for a thorough service but he will end up with a nice set of grinders at reasonable money.
A set of three 2nd hand used but decent condition to go for about £250 a couple of years ago. £700 is mad!

you can find a set cheaper than £550
like I said I got mine for 400 with a few spare spools, you just need to wait to find a good enough set for the cash.
or just buy a new set, either way its up to yourself, but the betters sets do come up.

they sound like that because of the spool rubbers.
if you want to keep them on give the rubbers a coat of Vaseline, if not take em off.

You can not get parts for the shimano 10,000 XT although the best reel they have ever made. As for the ISOs average unless serviced, preferred my 6ks to my ISOs until I had them serviced but questionable if better.

Jury is still out as to whether I still prefer the cranking power and looong drag of my now ancient but beloved Emblem X5000A's but the lighter weight (in comparison) and the fact that they landed my UK PB recently means I'm more than happy with the purchase . . .

Never let me down, service them myself and new drag washers every now and then. Not many reels in that price range can stand upto the hammer. Picked up a set of Penn Slammer 3 HS a few weeks ago for a trip, see how they go but the Daiwa's will be coming and get used.
