I was watching a guy on eBay selling stuff at ridiculous prices, the bids go mad, he sold a crapy Diawa bedchair for £185, I had the exact bedchair about 12 yrs ago and cost me £80 brand new

Thing with ebay is they don't always pay. I've sold a few things on there where the bidding goes silly high, some have paid but some haven't, and when you offer a second chance to the next bidder they never take it either

Anyone noticed an increase in suspicious activity on eBay? I've sold the odd thing for years and never a problem.
But I've listed some rods and I've had to cancel three orders now due to suspicious buyers, paypal holding funds and classifying the transaction as 'high risk', storage container delivery addresses, foreign delivery addresses, buyers offering to pay over the odds etc. Maybe I've just been unlucky.

Our business has been trading on eBay for about 6 years now and this last couple of weeks we've had a ridiculous amount of people buying then instantly cancelling the order after making payments. Something fishy going on and as a seller we still have to pick up fees via PayPal. Makes my pisk boil.

Was it the same phone sent back, I always note IMEI number as had a similar issue with a phone I sold to someone in Ireland. They soon shut up when I said return the phone but make sure it's this IMEI number! All of a sudden it was working fine.......

Didn't think buyers could cancel a transaction you have to ask the seller to do it on your behalf.
Happened to me when I sold something once and I got all my seller and Paypal fees back.

As a business seller they hold your money until you cancel and you don't get your PayPal fees back only your eBay fees.

It's a recent thing, buyers can cancel within the first hour as long as the item hasn't been marked shipped. I'm refusing to use ebay now, too many people playing the game of saying its broken when it isn't and hoping you partially refund high value items or just let them keep it.
I've had two items returned that were absolutely fine, yet I'm out of pocket for the delivery and return postage and ebay don't care about sellers. It's a buyers world on there, except the prices are generally extortionate now.

I have been buying a few motorbikes lately and always looking on Ebay bikes listed on there for £100,000 that are worth £4000 at most and they sell !!!!

I use eBay quite a bit selling off my old vinyl and comics. Very few problems apart from two damaged in transit by ham fisted postmen....

I sold a set of steve neville f.o buzz bars on ebay a few years back,mint condition, when they got to there destination they claimed the bars were bent,how the hell could anything bend a set of f.o bars...it would have to have been run over by a challenger tank,it was going to cost me £15 to return them to me so refunded them £15....absolutely fuming as the pictures they sent me didn't show any damage....because there was none.

That sounds almost definitely like a bit of Money laundering, things have gone on like that in the art world for a long time. Two or three people bid at auction for a piece of old tat that's worthless and the winning bidder is very well known to the seller. Its just an old scam that seems to be on ebay now.

Sold a free spirit marker rod got positive feedback less that a month later got a message saying tip had snapped.was absolutely mint when I sold it, after contacting Ebay they told me to come to an arrangement with buyer as he would win the case lost £150 as he wanted a full refund,wont sell rods on Ebay now.obviously frapped round tip

Looks like maybe the best thing is to message the buyer after purchase and check they are 100% happy, then at least if they reply you have a defence, but probably 95% wont.

I can't see it myself hes got 4000+ feedback and sells alot of carp tackle. years ago I seen a job lot of korda tackle with no pics sell for over £100,000 just a korda logo photo...surely it ain't that easy to launder cash on ebay is it?

I've got a full Solar set up I bought around 1990.
The original adjustable buzz bars (think these were the first adjustable ever) , banksticks, satellite system, monkey climbers, stabilisers, stainless backrests.
Don't use any of it cos it's pretty crap by today's standards. Maybe a good time to sell. Does have some sentimental value.

An item costing £15 brand new was being regularly sold at £60 (auction) for a used item when the shops had no stock.
As soon as shops had stock the price plummeted back to the £10 (used) they usually are sold for.
There sure are a lot of mugs in carp fishing with more money than sense.
I'm expecting a glut of used tackle at knockdown prices when the new anglers that just started during lockdown realise it's not for them or redundancies occur.
Hopeless for buyers though.

I have seen listings up as a Buy it Now and not sell get re-listed as an auction and go for way in excess of the original Buy it Now price..... .....if you can hold your nerve and be prepared that an item might not go for as much as you wanted then a 99p start auction attracts idiots from miles around....

Cheers guys! I have a stack of solar stuff that's not been used in years and have the same bobbin set shown below! I never knew it was worth that much - found it a few months ago when I was helping my mother with some house clearing after my poor dad got put into care. To think I'd probably had put them up for sale at around £20. I'll certainly be selling all the solar gear if people are really paying stupid money for it; also got needle bars, monkeys, all sorts of things, even a load of the interchangeable bodies in various colours, which I now see fetch high prices. Should be a nice little earner

I can see it now though, another £100 on the top line of stainless manufacturers products because you are investing in something for the future and you get an authentication certificate lol. Mind you, guess that would only be valid for U.K. manufactured products? Could be a good thing

My friend used to do some work for solar he did have two bin liners full of their old stuff especially the alarms, might tell him to sort it out and sell it on the bay 👍

The certificate with the bobbins was because the bobins was a charity auction with only 10 sets made they are old flouro bobbins with a vynal wrap placed over the top
The idea being so for solar collectors it was a way of proving these were the genuine bobbins not a copy 2 to back it up from solar and nutrabaits that it was OK to use the company logo's and 3 to add value that they are solar most important part was the value aso when all said and done the more they sold for the more money went to charity 100% no cost or overheads just a little back ground on them and for those interested in know there is another charity auction coming up again with more solar Bobbins on eBay by the same person different design again 100% going to charity again a run of 10 sets hope that helps on some questions
