Is there any baits that you guys have tried that slow down the bream ? I'm aware that I will never cut out the bream takes entirely on my water as there are so many, But was just wondering if you guys had tried anything that's slowed them a little, was thinking of maize and tigers as they are a little harder, what's your thoughts ? Cheers 👍

Cast singles to showing fish. If there are bream shoals and you put bait in they Will be on you. Don't put bait in unless you are prepared , and have a session long enough to wade through the bream to get to the carp. Heavy baiting Will eventually get the carp but it may take a lot of bait and a long. Sleepless wait.

Not sure what baits you are using now?

Top tip. Avoid pellet for starters, the love it

As Mark said, don't bait up heavily unless you want loads of bream, although there is an exception in that, if your baited area is totally surrounded by weed, as they don't seem to like pushing through weed from my own personal experience.

Bream absolutely love particles, any groundbait, pellet or spod mix, they will eat maize and tigers over them as they hoover the bottom while they feed.

Use as big a bait as you can to avoid smaller bream, I had to resort to 2 20mm baits on the reservoir to avoid them. A mate fished single 15mm baits in the same area and had 3 bream in the afternoon.

Sometimes bream will get onto your spots, and then you catch a random carp. I had that happen on Ardleigh Reservoir, from the exact same swim as John Wilson strangely in one of his Go Fishing programmes.

I've caught plenty of bream on 24mm baits , my tip would be to use the korda shrink wrap on your hook baits.

No they don't, I've had loads of bream on double 22+24mm baits. Not big bream either

Nothing will stop them but big boilies and nuts will see less problems than most other baits in my experience.

Using bigger baits and longer hairs reduces the amount of bream that get hooked.
In addition, there are certain things you can add to your boilies that reduce the interest of bream as wel.

It's only a small lake so I've just been fishing in the edge with a few crumbed boilies and had a few carp this way, but there is a particular spot that they really like, but I've always been breamed out fishing just a few boilies, so I want to prebait it and then just fish single on one rod when I get there, so I want to use something that will stay down there as long as possible so the carp will come across it at some point.

If you go for nut, have a look at xxl/jumbo tigernuts
Boilies with a high dosis of black pepper are also an option.

I'm thinking of prebaiting with tigers, maize and 18mm boilie every few days then just fish a single yellow pop up when I get to the lake to fish and see what happens, hopefully that will get the carp returning to the spot to investigate regularly and just have a little pop up there waiting for them. The lake is only 10 mins from home so can get up to bait regularly.

Again, not in my experience. Once those snotty ****s get on the bait they are relentless. I've had 3lb bream on double 24mm baits long hairs. They couldnt even nearly get the bait into their mouths and yet I was catching them. I found a scattered boilie approach best, don't attract the things in with particles and pellets and you've half a chance. I've heard people say garlic baits don't catch bream but that's rubbish too

Fill in one area with a sack of pellet, corn and vitalin, give it 24 hours then fish your selected spot away from the hordes.

If you think bream are a problem then chub are even worse! Its doesn't seem to matter how hard, how big, or how many baits you have on the hair - nothing stops them!

That's a fact. They are a nightmare. Once they arrive on the spot, i stop Baiting up till they are gone

3lber on a 3rd of a tin of spam and another on 4 20mm halibuts, both intended for cats.

Anyone familiar with swangey in Norfolk, without doubt the most bream infested lake I've ever fished. I gave up on the carp as it was impossible to keep anything other than a live bait in the water.

3 inch hair, and a single 20mm bait, that should stop them but expect a few pulls and beeps. I used this tactic on a lake with a lot of tench, I got absolutely sick of catching them, this made a bit of a difference me

Another tip, fish the margins less bream, and catch tench

i fished a water that had big bream and only a few carp, and i ended up fishing 2 x 20mm boilies on a long hair, and the carp had no problems with this, and i had a good season,

I've heard that about black pepper aswell thinking of giving it a go myself . On the section of river I fish 7-10 bream in an overnighter is not uncommon they are a nightmare and doesnt matter what hookbait is used , I've had them on 3x 18mm , 4x tigers , long hairs , short hairs you name it . So I'm gonna find some sort of black pepper glug/dip to soak hookbaits in anyone got any recommendations please

Stiff rig with a large hook and not too small hookbait seems problematic to the bream. Still lots of beeps, pick ups and everything you don't want, but the percentage of bream that hang themselves goes way down. Big, boring, hard boilies as loose feed also helps, but imo you also notice that in the amount of carp you attract, so not a fan of that.

It's a problem yes:P

Hinged stiff rig 2” plus, size 4 hook and an 18mm pop up seems to work for me,

It's a matter of 'selective' fishing.
If you want less bream and catch a few carp less so be it.

Tried that aswell 🤦‍♂️ the bream were hooking themselves on the outside of the mouth obviously where they was playing around with the hookbaits and I couldn't be sure how the hookbait was acting in the current so ditched that idea
