Can't say I've used anything unusual, but I seem to remember a friend (possibly my imagination p) threw some UFO's out and got them to take off the top. Not sure these are made anymore. Can't see how you would rig them up either!

I hear jelly babies work quite well. I think the late Rod Hutchinson used them at Redmire.

I've caught on a side hooked red wine gum fished under a float.

Funniest thing I've heard of is a mate that used to fish with lego heads on the hair instead of fake corn. Apparently the sunglasses heads caught more than any of the others

One guy who tagged onto our group for a while was basically there to get drunk and the guys got pissed off with him after a while.
One session while he was sleeping it off they reeled in his rods and baited up with a monopoly hotel and a subbuteo football for a laugh.
He caught an 8lb common on the subbuteo football.

I once caught a carp off the surface using a piece of dried sheep ****! Guy came round and asked me what I was using, so I told him. He didn't believe me till I got him to choose a piece and had 1 instantly. Also had them on NikNak crisps.

12lb mirror on a 2inch dead roach while eel fishing.

i watched carp in spain acting as a pack cornering small fish and then eating them in a canal drain, it was cool to watch and they defo like to eat fish

Just out of interest many years ago I was fishing a large French lake
and in the corner to my left I could hear all this crashing it was a hot sunny day so thinking oh bloody hell they have started spawning

I reeled in and walked round what I saw was the the complete corner was black for for about 2 meters from the bank with millions of tadpoles that had just hatched the carp were roaring into them and gorging on them was an amazing sight

A chip 🍟, when at school used to carry a telescopic rod in my bag, rarely made it to school, one dinner time there was a few fish on the top, only food item about was me mates cone of chips... On one went, lowered out, and a double figure common snaffled it in seconds, was still hot 😜... Un hooked the fish in the water as had no mat, just a **** old net we used to stash for the sciving days.. Was easily a PB at the time, Never forget that day 😁

Not a so unusual bait for me with an acorn, but there's a guy that catch regularly carps with lures.

I nearly had one on a petal once . I noticed they were swirling at fallen petals of a nearby bush , I put one on my hook and freelined it . Think I had a chance but missed it , this was long before I'd even caught a carp

Enjoyed looking through this thread. Fascinating to say the least.

I posted not so long back after watching carp come up and take blackberries from overhead bushes.

That reminds me of something very similar, same scenario on Lake Meillant France, but on a quick dip of a net they were tight football sized shoals of baby Catfish, saw that a few years on the trot.

i'd always heard rumours of carp eating smaller fish but didn't know if it was true. I think there is a article in one of the carp publications this month, about a guy catching a carp on lamprey.

I saw a carp eat a baby bird that had fell out of its nest.Me and my mate could not believe it

Probably a bit too much to use them as bait though.....

Caught one around 18lb on a whole sardine when pike fishing on the canal. Size 6 treble in the bottom lip...

I caught a carp once on the canal lure fishing in winter, dropped my 2.5” kypyto Shad to the bottom under my feet and the braid pulled up tight! My little Shimano Rarenium was singing away. That's 3x carp I've caught on lures fair and square in the bottom lip!

Dunno. You can get frozen baby chicks for feeding snakes at some pet shops. Not sure how you would present it though!

Half a mackerel with a set of trebles in it. 20lb carp inhaled the lot. A mate that was carp fishing, strawberry bottom bait, SBSbait if I remember correctly, had a run, landing 20lb pike.
We we were in Wales so not sure if it counts..

Caught several carp to low 20's on half a mackerel whilst fishing for catfish in France a few years back. Also netted an upper double common for a chap that was spinning for pike (UK).

I have read a few times that Carp will eat other fish, in effect most fish would given the chance. We used to keep tropical fish and as soon as the fish gave birth you would need to isolate them in a small net system to prevent the other fish eating the babies- even the mother.

Think fish meal baits......

Forgot my bait one winter trip to a runs water, had some Opal fruits in the truck. Caught two singles.

fished some lakes that had a boilie ban.... caught nowt on pellets and plagued by silvers on naturals so stuck a jelly babies head on and had a 17lb mirror.... pink btw, and the last one, tried green etc but nothing.

A friend of mine had a mid double on a hair rigged snail a couple of years ago.. Last year my 8 year old son had two single figure commons on the same piece of McDonald's bacon from the burger my wife brought over for him lol
