Over the year's I've owned and still do have Armalites I just seem to inadvertently collect the bloody things from mates who were selling or buying new blanks and loved them. That said it all depends on your fishing style or more situation I found 2.5 and 2 3/4 Just too soft for me so much so they've now gone many years ago I still have now 3.5s and 3lb which I now my pike rods but I much prefer the 3.5s nice for playing fish on but with backbone. I moved to NGs about 14 year's ago birthday present (NG next generation of Armalites) in 3.5 which I rebuilt last year they cover everything for me, personally if your looking for a soft action playing rod I'd go for NG in 2 3/4 the older model's I have can be picked up second hand I'm not a fan of the newer builds atheistic wise.

Century originally described Armalites as a 'player's rod', but I found them more than that.
I could get over 100 yards with original 4000 aero GTE Baitrunners, 8lb line to a 20lb Amnesia shockleader and a 2.5-2.75oz lead.
They were gorgeous fishing rods as well, they were a pleasure to play fish on.
The only reason I changed is the originals were stolen, so I got mk.ll's.
In todays world I would be happy using them for smaller water (say 10acres) fishing.

I can second that - the 1st gen NG models are superb. I have 3.5 and 2.25 rods - the lighter rods are such a joy to play fish on.
Plenty turn up on the bay. currently a set of 3 3.5tc rods on there now.

So nice to read that someone is after a proper set of rods
as these days people totally out gun the fish I have had fish to 68lb on my Century 2.75 NG`s lovely rods

Very smart rods...
My son has a pair of mk1 armalites,in 2.75 tc,they are really nice rods....he's into retro carping,....I agree,also with Gerry,see a lot of people on small waters with huge reels and mega tc rods,what ever happened to rods that actually bend when a fish is on...
I use 2.5tc rods,never had a problem ...I fish 997 acre, right down to moorland pools,...just one set of rods..I do OK...👍

I had a set 11Ft MK 1's before I snapped the tip in a gate, absolutely loved these rods, So much so that I spent an age finding a blank with similar action, ended with 2lb Torrix 12ft specialist blank chopped to 11ft, got the same action using 30mm eyes.
You wouldn't of been disappointed absolute playing action.

I bought 3 x 2.75lb NGs for £90 on facebook market place. The chap had them given to him and never really got into carping.
Nice bits of carbon for £30 a pop!

i think its a shame that to get a 2.5LB rod that you need to really hunt for one.
i suppose the thinking that they wont be any good for extracting big fish from very weedy waters.
i have one near me which would literally be under arming and most people are using heavy gear.
and next year most of my fishing be on smallish waters so i will likely be rummaging around for a 2.5lb rod.

The Torrix 2.5lb is a superb rod if you struggle to get century blanks. I use a set of ISOs on mine with 15lb Fluoro and tend to use them over my 3.25 TC Torrix.

Bob Morris still makes low tc armalites,and I understand mk1 blanks are available...

A lad I know has used 3 1/2 tc NGs for years, loves them
Century make some quality carbon, if I won the lottery I would have around 10 sets
Nothing more satisfying than playing an angry carp out on a light tc rod

I don't think a lot of people understand test curves. Yes you need heavier rods for distance fishing but a lot of people get heavier rods for the wrong reasons.

I've got a MkI armalite 2.5 12' and it is an absolute joy to fish with. Combined with a Ray Walton Rolling Pin it can handle anything from a crucian up to an angry 30 lb hooked under the rod tip.
As for casting, effortless from 1 oz up to 2.
This year I treated myself to a set of the graphene stealth 2.5 12' rods and with some spare cash teamed them up with SS2600 reels. Certainly not distance reels. Most of my fishing has been underarm flicks and the occasional other side of the canal overhead bump. They have performed flawlessly and tamed carp to lower 20's.
Only casting I've done is the 40 gram spin-doctor now and again. Again effortless and the lead runs out of steam before it hits the water from the 14 lb line trailing behind. The distance is quite amazing and the rod recovery is near instant. Feels like a slingshot.
My sea rods are Tip Tornado Ultra Lites teamed up with millionaire mags and they cast 4.5 oz with such a smooth and effortless motion it doesn't feel like casting at all.
Get yourself some century carbon, get a feel for that rod and go from there. Try a few forums where they talk some sense. Use the advice with care and your off.
My rods are smooth easy going, more about fishing than casting. You can get some real grunt from century and you need some real grunt to handle them. In my prime,... didn't have the time or money. But with a partially dislocated shoulder a few times over and some common sense these rods keep me fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
As with most things of utter delight,... over endulgence is sheer bliss :-)

Agreed BUT 30 year's ago I couldn't afford 2 dedicated outfits as I used to Carp fish through the summer and Pike through the winter that's why I found 3.5 Armalites the perfect compromise trying to lob a 1/2 mackerel or other deadbaits on a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 Armalite did seem to be overloading it. Now the 3.5 Armalites are dedicated pike rods and the 3.5 NGs are the Carp rods having also owned the 2 3/4 NGs I found the higher TC suited me better and are a joy to play Carp on. As both Armalites and NGs are of a parabolic nature the higher TC are not at all aggressive. In a fast taper rod I'd be looking at 2 3/4 tc and wouldn't consider a higher tc. Just out of interest my 10ft small water rods are 2.5tc these get left in the car so I just bought a cheep set up (I won't name as not to offend anyone else who has these)

i have been offered a pair of 12FT green blanked ones which have a silver armalite badge on the bottom of the butt but they dont have TC marked and the seller isnt sure of they are 2.5 or 2.25

You cant tell by looking at a pic, yes you can still get blanks off Bob , just built 3 2.25 t.c rods for a bloke in germany.

One of my first carbon carp rods are MK1 13ft. 2,25. Not just a piece of history they are still going strong.

A little bump for this thread.
I was left some rods by my old friend and fishing pal last year when he passed away.
I am pretty sure he said they were 2.5lb Armalites and they are 13ft long, very light rods with a very thin tip section.
Can anyone confirm if they did a 13ft 2.5lb test curve version?

Hi ive had a few old school rods left to me, one of them being a century armalite mk1 12ft tc 2.75. The rod is probably as old as me so i dont know too much about them. Looking to sell, any idea how much I should be asking for? Dont see much use from me so id rather see them go to someone who will appreciate them more than i do. Thanks

Keep an eye out for them on ebay, they crop on there from time to time. Got my son x 12' 2.5lb Mk2's a few years back. Think they were about £120 for the 3 rods, a bargain.
I have 2 x 12' 2lb and 1 x 12' 2.25lb Mk1's which I use for 95% of my fishing, I love them. I bought them in 1987 and were rebuilt about 4 years ago.

I guess it depends on how long and how much one reads up on Rods I knew about Test Curves and Actions of Rods 25 years ago things haven't changed only the publicity marketing hype fashion and new comers to the sport, Rods haven't actually changed to much of course they are better one way or another but they haven't fundamentally changed.
