I got sucked in to try a different hook and getting them out of the pack 4 of the 10 have turned points but they still feel pin sharp.
So it got me wondering is this by design and is this normal out of a pack of 10?

I've been using them since they came out. Can't say I've had any duds in any of the packs I've bought so far. Rate them as a hook and all been very sharp out the pack.

I use this pattern quite a bit, definitely sharp out the packet as all the ESP hammer hooks are. Can't say I've noticed them being turned.

I must be unlucky. Will give the ones that are OK a go on one rod to see if they redeem themselves

Not your hook pattern but I posted on here a while ago about the same problem with the floater hook. The card insert was badly marked with hook points, I can only assume where it had travelled in the post. The seller sent me another pack and whilst there were far fewer indents on the card inner some were still turned over to the point I won't use the hook if that's the way it's going to come.
I sent ESP a msg, they didn't get back to me, very poor!

Ahhh, can't believe I got sucked in by the marketing, but when the bloke who said many (many) years ago to use a conti says he was using these instead now, I thought yeah why not lol.
I will check the card out of curiosity - never had to do that before with the way Contis have always been supplied.

Think how many hands those hooks have been through
How many times Shaken up
Getting them from a tackle shop at least you can see them before you buy.
And reject the dodgy packets lol

I bought the trigger hammers when they first came out, I've put it on here before about points over out the packet...cant remember the exact numbers but the number of duds per packet was high...I think out of 4 packets I get less than 2 packets the I was happy to use...then the ones I did use the points went over really easily when using them..absolute garbage and would never use any of esp hooks.again

I always use chod hammers in size 6. Never had a dud one. All mega sharp out pack. They can need changing after a fish or 2 though.

The fact they would go over in a packet, like Andy it put me off, but I did give them a 2nd chance. Most of my hooks come through the post, none have faired that badly, shame really as I liked the pattern shape itself.

Love me chod ammers. But they do dull easy. Have to change them after every fish. I suppose its what you get with a very long thin point. Can see why it happens in the pack especially if there being sent through the post. Maybe ESP need to have a look at there packaging. Maybe something along the lines of what Korda do with there hook boxes.

The chod hammers and trig hammers are technically no sharper than any other chemically sharpened hook imo. The hook points are decent, but no better than any other decent chemically sharpened alternative.
It's the elongated fine point profile that makes them seem sharper. Unfortunately that profile also makes then fragile at the points and this is what makes it easy for them to be turned. I too have seen this out of the pack, and it'll almost certainly be happening during processing/handling (PTFE coating, packaging, shipping etc).
They do an XT version now with a thicker wire. Not sure how this influences the point profile, if at all (I've not seen them yet), but maybe worth a look if you like the pattern but not the quality of the standard version.

As I posted in my floater hook thread in rigs, the guy in the shop I bought them from opened a pack while I was on the phone, 3 points had gone over in that pack too.
I get them going over with such a sharp thin point but there's a contradiction to me. If they're going over that easily, they should be equally as easy to re sharpen, but I couldn't for some reason, that's the only reason I contacted the seller. It was soley a issue with ESP as I tried Nash and Korda floater hooks, both survived the post, and the Nash a touch up to the point, not tried re sharpeninging up a Mixa yet

I use them on my choddys and really rate them. Stopped using the Kamakura because of the point and found these to be great! Quite often get 2 fish on 1 hook after a quick file.
