I only joined Facebook this year since I started selling a bit. It's certainly been interesting. I have to admit up until this year I think I must have wandered the world with blinkers on. I had no idea that there were so many absolutely prize Hamptons in the world. Some of the comments I've got from complete clowns have left me speechless. It's made me realise how many damaged people there are in our pastime. Its an absolute pleasure to get a message from a normal person these days. No wonder so many well known anglers just don't bother with it. Can you imagine Terry Hearn putting up a picture of a 50 and getting streams of comments that he needs to cut his hair bruv or mate that's not a 50 and you need to learn how to weigh them etc etc from some coke head who started fishing last year and knows everything.

I've said before there is a sub species evolving, we're now into the third and fourth generation's, the people you talk about are sending their kids to school aged five and six that only know how to crap on the floor, God help us. Similar for me. My syndicate pages are all positive, catch reports, updates and a bit of friendly banter that has never got out of hand. My club does attract a different kind of person though and there is a bit more negativity on there but the guys running it do a great job of trying to clamp down on it. I only use FB for fishing and I am lucky that most of the group's I am on do not get the negative or abusive comments I often hear about. FB can be positive though, I was struggling last autumn wth work and general stresses of life at the time and then had a session at my syndicate cancelled as Wales was out into another lockdown so I couldn't travel. That is when I found the club lake so went down there and caught a lovely old mid 20 and I posted that on my timeline (very rare I post) and I got a lot of very positive comments from friends (many of which I only know via FB, some I do know from fishing) and this really did give me a boost that was very much needed. So yes, a load of 🔔ends use it for abuse, but there are also plenty of positive uses of the platform

I often wonder if other hobbies suffer such a high element of d***heads or even other elements (ie match or other species) of our passtime .... Is it just carp fishing?

Carping is sadly a far cry from what it used to be , I've taken to hanging the rods up now in this country as it's either too rammed or have idiots either side of you on some cesspit unless you have of course a lovely syndicate to retreat to .
I've never published any of my foreign fish , some from lovely big French waters far from the usual camping drinking brigade , as I feel that it would only provoke jealousy and hatred but sadly that is the world of carp fishing as it is today

I never agree with people who say this. There are hundreds of quiet lakes and rivers in the UK. Many on a day ticket. Forgotten lakes, ones with mystery stock. Sure british carp fishing is awful if you follow the crowds to those cess pits, but there is plenty of fishing away from the circus left.

Agree. Listening to most guys on here you'd think decent carp angling just doesn't exists any more, and that the youth of today are all *rseholes. It's not the case. There are waters out there that are still nice to fish if you can be bothered to find them, and the young anglers I know are all as keen and respectful as any I've known for the past 25 years.
Yes some day tickets can attract a dodgy crowd. They always have imo. Just avoid them.
As for negativity over pics on social media, I think that's just FB. I see beautiful images every day (not just captures) on Instagram with no negativity whatsoever.

The neg heads are certainly more prolific on certain FB groups over others. One group Im in is a members only group and that hasn't got a neg head in sight. Well.... as far as captures from other anglers go

Yes instagram is considerably less vicious than facebook just great to enjoy pictures without the nasty crap that facebook seems to attract. Also a good point about many good young respectful anglers around...i think a traite of getting older is you see things through rose coloured specs.

Guys so in love with carp fishing that they visit a carp forum daily, then spend that time having a pop at "modern carp fishing", young anglers, sponsored anglers, carp tackle, carp films, carp waters... basically anything they can think of related to carp that they can have a pop at

Couldn't agree more Yonny. Take the time to find a good lake with nice fish, give social media a wide berth, take the nonsense you read on a fishing forum with a pinch of salt...
