You're actually buying just the skin if you want to be accurate. The actual body is a cast ( one of 6) and the ‘real' one ( this one) is covered with Clarrisa's skin. Standard fish taxidermist procedure of the day 👍

No, it was in London Zoo, until it died. I saw it there.

Does anyone know why it went to London Zoo?
i.e.

For it's own benefit, because it had something wrong with it, or

because it stopped anyone else catching it an ounce or more heavier and breaking his record!?!

...and to answer the initial post, nope, I would not buy it. I'd rather spend the money on some live fish and plop them in local rivers (obviously I can't do that due to law....but just saying)

That's a slight improvement on the previous record which I believe was gaffed and taken home in a hessian sack.

What size did it get to in the zoo? Shame it didn't hang around in the lake for others to catch

I've often wondered that? Why did Walker offer it to the Zoo? Maybe it because it was so much bigger than the previous record I believe caught buy Bob Reynolds from Redmire Also. He thought the Zoo would find out why it grew so large if he offered it to them for research.?

But it spent the next 20 plus years swimming around in an Aquarium apparently becoming quite tame. Eventually passing away at a weight of around 27lb.

I think Anglers back then thought these fish would only get caught once. Recapture weren't a thing apparently.
