I’ve not used braid for years due to venues not allowing it. But the current venue I’ve joined is very snaggy and allows braid. So just wondering what people thoughts are these days on the best sinking braids on the market?

How far will you need to be casting? True sinking braids are quite thick and cast quite poorly. Something like Gardner Hydrosink falls under this category.

A good compromise is the Avid Outline braid or the fox submerge which are thinner and cast better and sink ‘OK’ under a bit of tension, but not a sinking braids in the truest sense.

I tried the sbx & really didn’t think much of it, very thick & didn’t sink that quickly. Much prefer the Korda sub braid or the original nash bullet.

I'm sure someone used to do a product you could rub into braid to make it sink, so you weren't restricted to buying 2 lots, floating and sinking...was it Kryston.

I use the korda sinking sub braid, it sinks like a brick ! I've been very pleased with it this year as my first year using it.

I've used braid of various types for around 30 years now , starting with Fireline for barbel fishing on the Severn and Dove . The first sinking braid I used was JRC Gold , which was fairly good , progressing through several others such as Avid Camo and SBX to my current choice of Ridgemonkey Descend , chosen because it is considerably thinner than the SBX , and of 20lb bs rather than the 40lb bs of the SBX . I like it - it casts well and sinks well

There's a product made for fly anglers called Xink (Ithink) to help flies and leaders sink. I've not used it on braid, but suspect it should work well. They also do a floatant version called Gink.

I keep all the old putty off used rigs and have a ball of it in tackle box, I use this to rub along the last few rod lengths of braid. Probably unnecessary but it would go to waste otherwise anyway.

I use SBX in 25lb, haven’t had an issue with it. It’s nowhere near as heavy as original bullet braid but it’s a good balance of useable density and casting distance.

I have to agree with this about the sbx. Ive read that there is a coating on it, which i wasnt aware of at the time of buying, so need to try and clean that off somehow bext time im out with it. Thickness doesnt bother me, as i knew about it before i bought it, and the lake i use it on is not long range, but the sinking on it, as it stands is not very good, more like neutral buoyancy if anything

I tried the 25lb but went back to the 40 as it sinks much much better..
I can cast 23 wraps with the 40 and I tried the 25 because I wanted to cast further sometimes, but I didn't like it.

Having used a few of them over the years including the aforementioned for the last couple I’ve settled on the Avid Camo. Casts great, sinks and doesn’t need constantly wetting, fantastic all round sinking braid. Only other one I like if going for longer range and a more neutral braid is Sufix 832 in 30lb.

Its the 40lb i have on. Did you soak it in warm water before loading it? Ive read since that that helps remove the coating, but i got johnson ross to spool mine in store so it obviously wasnt soaked

The Avid stuff is decent. Behaves really well. I'm not a big fan of braid historically but I like this stuff.

I Never knew about soaking it etc

It's been on there three years and was fine after about 3 trips.
I haven't snapped it yet, it's good the hook or hooklink goes first
and it sinks well unlike the 25lb that needs a tight line.
