So Ross's group also caught the big one, just held the photo back before I had worked out how to word the capture, so Mike is an absolute gent caught it at three in the morning, on my scales that for record has only ever weighed this fish. It weighed above the record weight in the water and was weighed on the bank to confirm that weight, weight was 68.8, I will speak to the committee when I can get hold of them, but for now here it is and whether they will proceed with a claim.

What a superb fish to hold the record and from a water anybody can get to fish. A long time since that has been the case.

It can happen if they are holding a bit of water. Also allow for discrepancies with scales, weighing technique etc. There's a crazy story about a fish dropping a huge amount of weight on the Cyp podcast, that fish did not sound healthy though.

Unfortunately now this has a possible record involved people will love to speculate and often negatively. Hopefully the fish is fine, the scales check out and we have a worthy new record, it's been a while.

Waterside is a bit different in that you aren't allowed to weigh that fish yourself. You have to leave it in the net, call the baliff and he comes to do it. So it's weighed by the same person, using the same kit every time which should eliminate any of those discrepancies

Is it a male or female fish? From the papers the bloke who caught it said he also targeted it similar week last year, lake booking with his mates. If female and in spawn or stopping and starting to shed I'd expect some varied weights.

Yeah I know it gets caught a bit, but 5 times already this year is more than normal. Not sure it's ever been caught twice in just over 24 hours either? There have been many fish in the past that get caught quite a lot more frequently than usual that have then bellied up soon after. Hopefully it doesn't go that way

It has defo come out twice in 2 days at least once before mate
There was an occasion on which it came out at the top end and then down the other end the next morning. They tend not to publicise all the captures.
The bizarre thing is it will get caught a bunch of times like this than go on the missing list for 9 months. Strange fish.

I caught a large fish in France twice in 2 days. Also, a fish I caught recently was captured a few days later at the other end of the lake - this one was an old fish.

Years ago I caught the same fish in an afternoon.

Back in the late '70's my mate landed a low double, I took a quick pic and he returned it. As he picked up his rod to rebait his other rod was away, it came in very easily and yes it was the same fish, we could see the previous hookhold.
