Has anyone used opti baits buchu pop ups before? Any opinions?
Never used it but Buchu was the ‘Skunk' essential oil used by Darenth Valley Baits of yesteryear

Always meant to have a look when my mrs was given a pot
Just to find out more about it
So Google brings up this
Buchu is a plant from South Africa. The leaf is used to make medicine.
Buchu is used for urinary tract infections (UTIs), including infections involving the urethra (urethritis) and kidneys (pyelonephritis). It is also used by mouth for treating inflamed prostate (prostatitis), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), high blood pressure, fever, cough, common cold, upset stomach, stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gout, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Buchu is applied to the skin as an insect repellant, as a deodorant, and for skin infections.
In manufacturing, the oil from buchu is used to give a fruit flavor (often black currant) to foods. It is also used as a fragrance in perfumes and colognes.

Yep, and Buchu was used in the original Dave Thorpe 'Green Beast' flavour.
If you find the first big chat between Kenny Gates and Kev Ellis on YouTube, Kenny goes into Buchu in some detail. Very interesting film.

Not used them personally. But Sam Opti baits knows his onions when it comes to bait. So you can be assured its quality.

I do like the sound of those base mixes particularly the milk one. No plans to start selling rolled bait for us lot that can't roll our own bait, my excuse is I'm useless at it with the added bonus my Mrs would have me out on my ear

@Sam
Off topic. But I just listened to your covert podcast.
Regarding this bait group thing, you mentioned it was £25 to join, but you didn't mention the subscription. £25 per what?

£25 per month but you can cancel whenever you like and just join for the one month if you like.
All of the details of what you get etc are on the website that I mentioned on the podcast (don't want to spam on here)

Surely the value of joining the bait club depends on the people dispensing the advice. Who are these anglers?

Hi Sam, well done on putting together a website curating some really interesting bait making products. The bait club isn't my sort of thing, but I assume if we buy your products we still get some support without having to pay £25 a month?

I messaged him on FB about a few of his products with a view to purchase and he was most helpful and I'm not a member of the bait club

"It's time for the bait world to regain passion and become results orientated, not profit orientated.", but it will cost you 25 quid a month for the privilege
Yeah thanks, it tells me all i need to know

I have spent many hours listening to the podcasts wanting to know more about the things the guest are speaking about & the bait club allows you to be able to talk to them & dig a little deeper. The calls are recorded so you can go back & listen / watch the old ones.
All the members seem to be very friendly & seem to know their stuff IMO. Sam is very open with answers to any questions asked in the group. Well worth checking out for a month if you are interested in bait IMO.

Hi Beyoncé,
Yes of course, shoot any questions over and I'd be more than happy to help
The club is just for anglers that want extra support with their own bait making adventures.
It's definitely not for everyone.
To whoever quoted the website about passion coming back in to the industry- I wrote that in reference to companies bringing out innovative products, it's absolutely nothing to do with the bait club.
In my opinion the passion has gone from the industry, where's the true innovation? Where's the companies pushing for excellence? I'm sure there are some small companies doing just that, I certainly strive to, but the big boys aren't in my opinion.
Would be great to see the industry back to where it once was.

How do you define innovation though?
What was the last truly groundbreaking bait?
Or is it just the never ending search for that one unknown ingredient that might make the difference between a good bait and an outstanding one?

It's unlikely that any commercially available bait is going to be truly groundbreaking, unless the new miracle ingredient is dirt cheap. There is probably room for a home bait maker to take a good base mix and add a "super" ingredient to it. Knowledge has always been power. Not all carpers are interested in bait enough to do the leg work. Or pay tge extra for top class ingredients. You can catch many carp on a cheap bait. Catching the old wily bugger you've been after for a few years, might need a different strategy.
Then again, stick a single piece of sweetcorn in front of it's face when it's in the right mood, and Roberts your mum's brother.
