Seen a few posts in recent days of people from Facebook Marketplace buying a cheap £10 item then the house getting burgled a few days later for all the fishing stuff. I am on alert at the moment as I sold someone something for £10 at the weekend and they were asking for a lot of details. I didn't give anything away apart from postcode and met them outside my house but they did manage to see which house I come out of unfortunately. Going to work from home the next few days just to be safe but just a heads up as there's so many scum bags about if you use Facebook to sell items.

thanks for sharing, I wouldn't have given this much thought and probably invited people in for a cup of tea. 
When I sold gear on EBay I've always arranged to meet a local park lake.

Many years ago I had all my match gear stolen.
Police reccond I'd been followed home from my LTS or from a match.
If people are really going to do this they will follow you from the lake.
They can walk round and see what you have. Then talk to you to see when you are off.

I always arrange to meet at my local supermarket car park
It's why I wouldn't sell anything for 10 quid, I also pay 120 a month to store my tackle in a secure container away from my house .

Always deliver (if local) . . .that way you get their address as well as knowing that they're not tyre kickers. Further afield and for big ticker items always meet in the middle - again this way you know if they're serious or not . . .smaller items / collections on FBM NEVER give them your home address; I always meet in the carpark of the local supermarket. TBF I do worry about postal orders . . .in this instance you have to supply your address (unless you can deliver to your place of work etc) and the likelihood of someone trekking down from miles to scope out your garage / shed is unlikely however still possible

Yes why would someone break in to nick fishing stuff. It's big and bulky and there's no way of knowing whether the gear is any good.
To me my gear is perfectly adequate but it's old and not worth much

My mate got done over big time after he advertised something on Facebook Marketplace and had a couple of dodgy looking blokes turn up and he reckoned, checked over the place. (Garage in this instance.)
I have sold stuff on ebay but wouldn't ever advertise locally for a home pick up again.
Recently I chucked out some old bait rolling kit that would have been too expensive to post as it wasn't worth the risk.
My garage has got a ground lock, a Yale alarm inside and an old alarm horn outside (that isn't wired up but don't tell them that!)

But you have some that walk round lakes like they are window shopping.
They see 4k sat on a pod 1k bivvy. They will talk to you ask if you are local and when your off the water then follow you. Chances are if you have that sort of gear on the bank you have more.
The other one is if you do get turned over chances are within 6 months they will be back.
They will gamble you are insured and will have replaced it.

yeah im not keen on the fact that i have to state where i live on a public website but there isnt another like this on the web anymore. And no, FB community groups dont count...

Just have decent security on your house. Good locks, an alarm system etc. Why would you pay £120 a month to store your gear when you can have a fully monitored alarm system for a quarter of that.
Sold loads and loads of allsorts of things locally, on FB, eBay etc and never had an issue.

All 2nd hand tackle 'could' be stolen . . .however in my experience of both buying and selling my own gear MOST carp anglers are genuine; in over 25yrs I've never had an issue; and meeting up is always the best policy, irrespective of it being in a service station carpark off the M6 or anywhere else for that matter.
Meeting in a public place is safer than exposing your home address to unknowns! I would rather deliver (if local) as this ensures the buyer is genuine . . .

The server died a while back, and I took a month or so to get the site deployed onto the new server.
Other than that, ages ago (8yrs+) there was somebody spamming the site with stupid messages and that took me a while to stop (few hours that evening, not days).

The ones I have I can set up so it emails me a video.
They are simple to set up and get working. If you have decent loft accesss you can do it in an hour or so for 4 cameras and brain.
I put mine just under the soffits so also doubly protected from wind and rain.
I made a dedicated email address to send the emails from so it didn't clog up my normal email address.

A lot of folk our way use Blink, if you go the subscription route instant notifications too. We've been using 6 of them for wild life and inspite of reservations they've been faultless. I did have to get a wifi extender, went for a 200m range jobby, since then no drop outs. Also went the rechargeable lithiun battery route, much cheaper than Energizers in the long run.
I like being able to keep a eye on the dogs in the house too, just bring a camera in from the garden and stick it in the room with them...their faces are so funny when you talk to them through it, lots of head cocking

I use the Eufy pro's, brilliant bit of kit, 4k with solar panel on top to recharge, back camera has been up 5 months now and just needed charging for 1st time, film in ultra hd and run through an app on my phone.
Built in AI so it recognises people and pets etc, thoroughly recommend them.

I use Google Nest / Hubs / doorbell / internal / external cameras
Everything under one app and like yours, you get person detection that pushes a notification to your phone immediately (which can be annoying when a spider crawls past the camera on a new web at 5am...I'm always dusting/removing cobwebs)

CCTV just shows you've got something worth nicking, and once it's gone, all the 300 quid will get you is a lovely souvenir video of the day your house or shed got turned over.

You're right. My Dad always says the best way to secure something is to avoid letting people know you have it.
Everyone's got a Ring/Google doorbell nowadays...it's not really an indicator of wealth.
I hovered over the purchase button on the "F15H XL" number plate once, but decided that advertising the vans contents wasn't the best idea. I try not to use Angling Clubs windscreen stickers on the glass, I just get them out and lay on the dash if I have to park in a club car park that requires it.
Ideally things need to be secure enough that breaking in makes a lot of noise. Then hopefully you get woken by the noise and you can disturb them.
When I got my first house years ago I got an expensive side door put into the garage. The guy was talking about the sheets of steel in the door etc etc etc whilst he sold/fitted it.
Having completed the fitting I said how I was happy the garage was now safe to which he replied "They'll come in through the roof, if they want it they'll get it"

Yup you are right and I think the same.

doesn't matter what you do if some scummy Herbert wants in they can unless you put bars on everything and live in Fort Knox what ya gonna do.

it doesn't matter nowadays what alarm, camera ,etc you have on your house out buildings..if the scummy toe rags want in they will get in..what about your neighbours,whos to say they don't pass on to anyone and say that you have fishing gear after seeing you countless times loading and unloading your motors.what about any trades who work on or in your property passing on info to anyone..happened to my mum recently, new floors laid and the only person outside the family who would of known her safe was under the stairs would be the floor layer.2 weeks later broken into, safe taken,,and it wasn't a Mickey Mouse safe either, big fck off solid steel one bolted to floor and wall..

I had a new system with cameras fitted after we'd had some strange goings on in our back garden. I also said to my wife that this was all well and good but all we've done is possibly given ourselves a nice recording of someone nicking our stuff.
