Looking at getting a proper coolbox,started going camping with my new partner.
Narrowed it down to the Yeti 24 Roadie or the new Dometic cl28.They are both roto-moulded and have a shoulder strap which is needed.Anyone used any of them and can give honest feedback.

I haven't got either model you mention, but have got the Waeco (which is now Dometic) Cool-Ice WCI 13, which I've had for many years and use on my fishing trips. I'm not sure how it compares with the CL, as I think the CL is a new range.
What I can say is it is very good quality, but probably not as well performing as I'd hoped. That said, I just place a few small ice packs in at time of loading and it does keep everything chilled for a couple of days, so ok for me. I've noticed the ice packs don't remain frozen for long though, but much better than the normal coolers. I'm not organised enough to pre-cool it beforehand with ice packs, which would probably make a difference. Mine has a sticker on the front that says its roto-moulded, but I can't see any reference for that on their website.
Looking at the CL it looks to be much chunkier so I'd imagine more insulating than what I have got.

25 L Extreme Plus Nomad Cool Box from the Cool Ice Box Company. These guys design a massive range of coolers and supply the NHS and scientific expeditions. I've had one for a few years and honestly I'm very impressed. With one or two frozen 2 litre water bottles and frozen / chilled food, I always come home after 72 HR sessions with ice still in the bottles. A medical supply company is currently selling these boxes for £ 234. The Cool Ice Box Company are doing them for £ 140 or £ 90 for slight seconds. I received one of these today with only ever so slight imperfections in the exterior moulding. They've only got white at the moment, so if that's not carpy enough, you'd have to get creative with some khaki spray paint. No shoulder strap as you requested, but these things weigh 8 KG empty so can't see anybody slinging one over the their shoulder once full !

I've got probably the cheapest blue and yellow old cool box. It's all about what goes in it. A 2 litre bottle of milk and a litre bottle of water frozen, and there's still ice in the milk 48hrs later. That was in 20+ degrees a couple of weeks ago, and it was being opened regularly as it had all the kids snacks in it as well.

Is there a 'best' ice block that retains the temp better than bog standard versions? Get the 1l frozen bottle idea but it takes up valuable grub space over a flat block etc

Tip from my home brewing days, cheap cool boxes don't usually have much if any foam in their lids and sometimes sides. To turn them into a very good cool box drill holes through the outer skin in various places and fill with expanding foam but it's the lesser expanding stuff that's best, I can't remember the name for it.

yeah fair enough the 35l version has wheels with a carry handle. Had a look now and see they only do handled smaller versions as you said. O well good luck with the search

The gel blocks are supposed to be better than water/fluid, but anything thin is going to thaw quickly (I guess that's where a more expensive box comes in as they'll last longer). For me though I use the milk anyway, plus the water provides a nice cold drink when it's warm so I'm not actually taking anything I wouldn't already.
For just myself on a 48hr session a 1litre frozen bottle of milk in a bog standard cool bag keeps everything cold enough.

I've got a Donetic Cool ice 13 which I use for fishing in the summer months and also I use it for my BBQ'ing, when I slow cook Lamb or Pork I put it in the Cooler wrapped in foil and Towels, it keeps meat piping hot for Hours after I've removed from the heat.
As a Cooler, it does what I need it to do, I'd definitely consider that one you asked about, looks a good bit of kit.

I was looking at that Roadie mate in 24 litres and unless I'm wrong that is touching £180 on amazon? I'm sure you've probably found a cheaper deal.
By comparison, I paid about £150 for my Icey-Tek 40 litre (no strap) and just under a ton for their 18 litre box which does have a carry handle.

Ive had the dometic 20 litre i think it was and it was ok. Icy tec 25 was built like a tank but far to bulky. Had yeti roadie 24 for a couple of years and it been superb. Built like a tank, suberp strap and much better shape than icy tec as i can get it in the footwell or behind car seat which i could never do with the 25 litre icy tec. It only looks smaller inside as its more of an upright shape to the other oblong boxes. The downside to yeti is there price but you cant fault there products as they are brilliant. I cant stop buying there cups as i have a yeti addiction, ive got 8 of them now. I think they might of discontinued the carpy green roadie 24 now though.

I'm going to go take another look at the Yeti,I have one of their cups and it is superb.It just threw me as it looked taller but internally it looked small,I do like the idea of it fitting behind passenger seat of my car too

Nice to hear about your van pal. On the verge of buying one myself for similar reasons, going to convert it. Been looking at a few of the conversion sites. The Yeti ones seem the most popular but are know for having very thick walls, which I suppose is a bonus but this limits the internal space, and they are expensive £.

I bought a Icey-Tek I never even used it as it was so freeking heavy EMPTY !!!
so if you fill it up I dread to think how you would manage to walk with one on a shoulder strap you will end up with muscles like Hercules or bollix like a Camel !!! yea they are one of the best if not the best at keeping stuff cold but the weight is truly insane !!

The strap on the yeti is brilliant but I must admit i never use the strap, i always just use the side grips to lift it. I couldnt imagine carrying it any distance with the strap as it would be so uncomfortable bagging off your legs and will weigh a ton. Agree wheels are a better option but the ground needs to be perfectly flat or the thing bounces and falls over a bit like a suitcase when your pulling it along.

I have recently purchased a proper coolbox, all 85 litres of Icey Tech for my Continental trips as sick to death of the 3 way fridges letting me down.
Brilliant bit of kit used in conjunction with the gel packs and ice cubes in the bottom, ice still there and functioning properly in direct sunlight after 5 days, I am well impressed !

Got 2 icey teks, 18 ltr for days/overnights and 40 ltrs for longer/France, use their ice blocks and ice and i cant fault them apart from being heavy.
