Looking for a rucksack for the colder winter sessions so I can be lighter and more efficient. I have two in mind but open to suggestions thinking anglers and aqua roving. I would like to Carry my unhooking mat with the ruck sack don't think you can do that with the thinking anglers one.

Certain mats will fit on top of thr thinking anglers on by they will be small mats. I have the ta one and I'm big fan I have everything I need to get fishing on the outside pocket and then less important items on the inside. The aqua on look like the same bag as the korum ruckbsg juat with a few quid added one. Have you look at korum transition or eep quickdraw ( the mat has some less then great reviews though)

I think.it would fit on the ta one but without the sizes I'm.not 100 sure. Looking at the dimensions. I was looking for a new mate that packs down nicely and thinking I might be getting one of theese

look at the medium (40lt) molle rucksacks... half the price of TA rucksack, better made imo and covered in molle loops to attach whatever you need via compression straps

Ive got a 40L osprey backpack that I bought for walking and climbing, in the end ive ended yup using it for all my day sessions or on the river where ill be moving a lot and its a lot more comfortable than any fishing backpack. Its use of space is also pretty well designed and there are plenty of bits you can clip mats and stuff to as well as a hood that you can store a roll up mat under.

I have the Thinking Anglers rucksack and I use the buckles on the lid to fasten to the unhooking mat (I use the Korum fast mat). It hangs off the back but it works perfectly fine for me

I have the TA rucksack and I think it is too small to make much sense for carping. I use the ESP 40l rucksack (I think it's only available in camo now) and I find the size much more useable. I have been through several rucksacks from the TA to a 110l Aqua and I think a capacity between 40l and 55l is the best choice for carp angling. It will be sitting on your back when you walk so no need for a small pill box sized rucksack like the TA. I only use my TA rucksack for coastal seatrout lure fishing now where I only need to carry a lure box, something to drink, a few tools and smaller tackle items. It's fine for that.
I have used the Trakker NXG 50 too. I was also a good and useable rucksack - I just preferred the top loaded ESP to the front loaded trakker. My mate use a Korum Ruckbag - that one may also be worth a look.

Like the size and compartments plus the tray inside but it does have some weight so if lighness is paramount then might not be the one. If you just want a super sturdy rucksack which is about the right size then I would recommend the Aqua although not seen the thinking anglers one

I had 2 Aqua ruckbags both bags the zip pullers came off and the inner lining came away from the stitching i wouldn't say it's top quality

If you use a pair of carabiners and think about it you can carry almost any unhooking mat on most rucksacks
I bought some olive webbing of eBay to make straps with and attached the Aqua roving mat (rolled up) to the thinking anglers rucksack
At the minute using the korum fast mat with carabiners

standard one. Had an original green one for about 8 years and use it for course fishing - really well made and no problems with it at all. Got a black series one for overnighters about 2-3 years ago and again no problems with it

What about the Dutch army rucksack. Very well built and about 25 quid.
If you are going light just take the rods in your u hooking mat so no need for a quiver or sleeves.

Thinking angler is perfect for me on day sessions as it takes tackle safe,rig safe,pult,hook baits,mini power pack,two brolly pegs,head torch, salopettes,jacket,sticks and 2 rod bars food and drink.
I've had two aqua roving rucksacks, now have the solar sp ruckbag. Better made, better zips and material and a lot more comfortable to carry.

Suppose it will depend on how well I fits you but I find it ok but m not walking big distances in one go as I stop start moving from swim to swim on the rivers so probably only walk four hundred yards before I stop and fish for a while an then move on taking it of while fishing.

Have this below as well which is bigger and has external straps for carrying more stuff but never used it as the thinking anglers does all I need but this would probably be more comfortable as it extends from the upper shoulders to the base of my back.

I went down the small rucksack route (Cotswold Valpine), but soon went back to my standard Nash one I've had for many years. Personally I prefer to have a partially filled larger rucksack, leaving room for jackets, waterproofs etc., rather than a small one that is packed to the gunnels. Plus the Nash offering is way more comfortable on the back than the likes of the Thinking Anglers one.

I just picked up a 100litre Molle MTP bergen for £50 on the ebay today, one of the big sellers of army surplus had put it as a Buy It Now cheapie.
My old 100l DPM bergen has started to die, not bad it's done over 10years, so if this does half that I'll be very happy.
The new military Molle bergens are a bit shorter and wider than the older ones.

The Molle Bergen arrived today, so these are first impressions.
Instead of one front centre pocket, it has 3 front pockets. A little bit annoying as the old single pocket had room for bait rocket, spod and Spomb. The height of the pockets are not quite enough to fit the medium Spomb in, but not a major problem.
The top flap is velcroed with a pull tight sleeve collar, and still has an inner and outer pocket; my Grandeslam scales and Fox weigh bar fit in the inner pocket and my thermal mug, Bulin stove and PVA mesh tube fit in the outer one.
Inside the main compartment I have tidily put away 2 rig bins, waterproof overtrousers and jacket, norgi, saucepan, frying pan, spatula, bialetti coffee maker and 2 gas canisters. There is still plenty of room inside for the extras that I take each trip, socks, trousers, t-shirt and a spare fleece.
The clips are all decent quality.
