Just returned from France where the lake owner was wearing a ccmoores one and it looked quite handy for keeping things in the large front pocket.

Yep. Bought a Jack Pyke one 3 or 4 years ago and love it. Use it in all bar the coldest of weather

I have a mate that goes shooting and he swears by Deer Hunter gear and he wears this one must say its a quality bit of kit you do get what you pay for in this instance

Montane extreme for winter (new one delivered yesterday). Buffalo army issue smock for the rest of the year.
If you have a summertime type snugpack etc but don't want to spend a load more money on an expensive winter coat or smock... The Jack Pyke gillets are great. They do the shooting types in thick thermal material, but they also started doing one in a padded version like the jackets we all wear. One of these over the top of a snugpak sleeka etc works well for adding warmth, without spending a fortune. I picked this one up off fleabay in the last photo brand new for around £30 odd quid.

I have the Buffalo Special 6 Shirt it's quality!! Made in Sheffield been around years and last years too. Very warm.

Used them for the last 20 odd years. Bought a Buffalo in 98 and still have it. Got given a new Snugpak one in 2010 ( used to write reviews on a website and still have this one too).
Buffalo - warm and extremely quick drying.
Snugpak - warmer ( thicker fleece) not so quick drying.
Both brilliant. As said on other posts, ex mod ones are good. Buy a cheap Army Goretex jacket that fits over them and you have a layered thermal waterproof system at a good price.

I have one of these and find it excellent. Very soft and warm, I even sleep in it in winter

The fit is pretty standard mate. I'm a 42” chest and get a large. If you go onto the Montane website... They have a size guide for all measurements. Not just chest.
I had a Buffalo special 6. There is no difference really. Apart from the Montane comes with the removable storm hood. With the Buffalo it's a £50 add on... Which makes it a no brainer. The Montane is UK made too, in Northumberland.
They are exceptional.
I'll go find the link to where I got mine from. It was £136 reduced from £160 with free next day delivery. Cheapest I could find.

arktis smock (mammoth shirt) is a good one - bought one a couple of years ago. Never been cold since whilst wearing one.

Looks like the extreme jacket with full zip to front is a tad cheaper than the smock. . .might go for this instead (versatility). Already have a decent haglofs pile jacket and wear a cheap synthetic over the top but the extreme looks a good integrated solution!

Vass make them. I have the Vass 175 winter lined jacket and bibs and I am well pleased with the set. They do a smock in that series too,

I got the Snugpak shirt too
glad to hear you say its warmer than your Buffalo I have often wondered I have never been cold wearing mine but I have always followed the advice by wearing it as a snug fit next to the skin

Ridgeline Grizzly is a decent one to look at too.
Been wearing it a fair bit since getting one and front pocket is massive 👍. First smock I've had in years, maybe they're due a revival

I'm usually a S/M and went for a 38 which fits perfect. They are true to size but depends if you want to layer up with any thicker layers underneath like a hoody. The special 6 shirts has a longer drop at the back compared to the mountain shirt. Nice and warm worn against the skin too. As mentioned below super quick drying and if worn against the skin your body heat dries it out.
