What is the difference between the glass and carbon nets (apart from price and material?)
Is one lighter/stiffer/better than the other? Is the carbon worth the extra dough?

Carbon is lighter and stronger, although for a landing net it's debatable how important that is.

No issues with the standard glass version.
I have 2 of them, 42 and 36 and 2 different handles.
Mine are at least 10 years old and still excellent.
Chris B has just made me a screw thread to join my two handles together to make a 9ft version. Excellent service and FOC.

How much does the carbon net weigh? I have seen some people calling them feather light whilst others say they're very heavy.

I've not weighed it but it's pretty thick and never going to break. More modern nets are slimmer and lighter, probably not as strong though.

Just found the weight on a facebook reply by Chris on his page - 42 inch carbon with 9ft (6+3) handle weighs 700g.

I have the Glass 60 inch for Catfish , excellent net and lifted 40 lb cats with ease .

When it comes to landing nets, I think where the weight is counts for more than the total weight of the net.
I've got a solar net, it's pretty light when weighing the whole thing, but feels heavy because so much of the weight is in the stainless spreader block system/stainless arm sleeves. That's why it remains very much a spare net with a much cheaper net as my first choice.

Totally agree. A beautiful, bomb proof piece of kit that will outlast me for sure. Weight-wise, doesn't seem too heavy to me. I've got cheaper & lighter nets but the CB carbon one is robust and totally reliable and the first in the holdall every time.

I have used a Chris Brown reverse taper carbon, for nearly a decade now.
It's one of my most treasured fishing possessions. A work of art. Light, strong. A proper landing net.
I don't think they make the reverse taper anymore.

Mines the reverse taper, with yellow whippings. Bought it around 2001/2002 still going strong, did change the mesh though.

I got metallic blue whippings the same as the hi s whippings when i got mine built as i didnt like the green ones but i have no idea how to post photos on here.

I never really noticed how bad the epoxy resin finish was on that till you posted my photos. I must have had another one made since then as well as thats the two piece handle and the one i have now is a one piece handle as just checked in the garage. No idea where the one in the photo went, might still be in the garage somewhere.

With a bit of noddyfication I managed to break the arm of my 10yr old CB net at the spigot.
Phoned Chris to buy a replacement and with no questions asked said he would send me out a new set of arms free of charge, as the nets have a life time guarantee.
What a fantastic service. I wish all companies operated like that.

100% epoxy, you can see it making a different contour to the edge of the handle from the other side, and its in a completely different position in the other photo.
Not something thats going to weaken or damage the net but poor finishing none the less. but thats not to say poor workmanship as every now and again a minor defect can slip through with virtually anything,

Agreed, i wouldnt buy any other net. I actually prefer my chris brown over the dymag.

John would you say the Net arms were bowed when attached to the spreader block? Or do they come of more straight? If that makes any kind of sense.. I like my nets to be bowed for some reason..

I would go for the carbon Chris Brown all day long. Brilliant net and the 3 foot extension comes in very handy.

Hi,
I also asked Chris to make me a 3ft section with a spreader block, so I use that with the other 3ft section as a stalking net, which is handy as it all fits tidily into an unhooking matt.

You can still adjust it but it makes the arms harder to get in and out the tighter it is , which is why chris uses wire in the first place.

Got the fibre glass net this year and I really can't fault it. Was toying between it and the carbon version.
But it's even lighter and better built than I expected, so I will not need to buy another net again.

Ive got some of mine on my phone somewhere with metallic hi s blue whippings if you want them but would have to email you them as dont know how to post them on here. I had my dymag net built the same way, should of really kept that one 😞

Older type reverse taper. A CB net is one of those things, you purchase for life. This one is over a decade old, it has had two new nets, and it will undoubtedly last another couple of decades at least. Bombproof... Quality nets.

Reviving an old thread but have just taken delivery of a CB 42 inch carbon net (second hand) and am mightily impressed with it.
Feels light in the hand and super rigid - I have previously commented that they look a bit 'cheap and nasty' in pictures, however I think it looks pretty good in the flesh too - not really 'trendy' but looks like a nice bit of artisan work and a little 'less green' than I expected.
Does anyone know if the blocks /arms are interchangeable amongst sizes (I assume they are)? as wouldn't mind picking up a pair of 32inch arms to use on the net for runs waters and/or barbel.

Ive got 36” and 42” inch arms for mine so block is universal. Email Chris he is very helpful. It was £75 for the 42” arms and mesh.
