I've had a Pure Move 400D for years. There's nothing wrong with it, but the last few months I've been fishing 30 yards from the M4 mainly. It's very noisy, I spend most of the day with my Pure Move on full volume to drown out the motorway.
The PM speaker is very tinny, and not that great when played on higher volumes.
So I wanted a better quality radio. This turned up today. It's very very good indeed. It has an incredible sound quality for a small radio. Ovbs do not know how great the rechargeable lithium battery is... But I have power banks for that. All I was interested in was the sound quality... And that is exceptional. For £50 it's amazing quality.

Just bought a roberts play 20 and its excellent, much better sound than my pure move it replaced.

I'm totally shocked at how good thing is, even though the reviews were good. Sound is very crisp. The quality is light years better than my Pure Move. There's not even any comparison.
It is slightly bigger, but I can deal with that. UK company too.

Recently got one of these and am very impressed. Small, Rechargable and gets good signal. Not sure what much more another radio could do.

good to see there are some good options out there. I have had at least 3 puremoves over the last 10 years, seem to start well, but deteriorate over time, battery especially. Arial is also very susceptible.

I had this one but the charge doesn't last long at all, got myself a Sony one from Argos on sale for £40 and got rechargeable batteries to use with it that lasts ages now

I think the quality has gone downhill on the pure radios now, my first one mini lasted years on building sites and fishing, the second a couple of years and the last one just months. The mrs got me a bigger one that sounded good but died after a few months again.
I use my festool work radio now, which doubles as a powerpack

The white version was £16.65, got to worth a punt at that price, I bought the last one so now it's £29.95 for the black version.
Worst that can happen is I'm not satisfied and I send it back.
As for the make Azatom, not radio but I bought one of their small bluetooth speakers and was so impressed I bought a second.

I still have an original Pure move one of the first produced I no longer use it fishing
its in my bathroom where I charge it up and use it every day ! only thing I did do was break the areal off so bodged a bigger longer one on it nothing else has been changed works perfect and lasts and lasts between charges
I now use a Pure Play for fishing heavy as hell in comparison but the sound quality is outstanding so worth the weight

snap, got a mahoosive aerial on my pure move, battery still lasts for about 4 nights worth of fishing (I leave on all night so it appears to passers by that I am awake....dodgy venue

It's no good for music though fine for listening to talksport or radio 5 live in the evenings by the bank and first thing in the morning whilst having a brew.

All designed in kings Langley manufactured in China.
Then the mainstream got hold of dab (Chinese companies) the margins went down as did the quality.
Still got a Sonus 1 in the kitchen.

The radio I am replacing, is also one of the very first Pure Move 400D that came out. Mine is pretty battered, but still works absolutely fine. I still have the original Ariel on mine. Incredible seeing as it's been knocking around in my bag for donkeys years.
It did stop working once... But a pin in the reset compartment sorted that out and it's never missed a beat since.
This Azatom is in an entirely different league though. There is no comparison. It has a small subwoofer. The sound is absolutely incredible for a small radio. I have spent a lot of money on good quality sound in my home... I'm shocked they can now produce such good quality in a portable radio for just £50.

I have my old faithful roberts sports long wave medium and fm in my fishing bag when I go fishing it goes under my bed on radio 4 all night on very very low volume I can only just hear it but the rats can hear it very well and I have never ever had one come in the bivvy since adopting this method batteries last for months

I do use a my Pure Move a lot but just recently i purchased a Sony srs-xb13 portable bluetooth speaker. Normally £55 but most places are now doing them for £39. Uses Sony's Extra Bass technology so it does pack quite a punch. So i can pair it up with my iPhone if i want to listen to my iTunes and also with the Iphones Radios app.
I find French fm radio is dire.

I have the original Pure Move and that lasted many years but doesnt hold charge for as long .... Added the 400D verson which is still brilliant and still have the Roberts Sports radio FM/AM which is bomb proof in an emergency ... Failing that i would just use my phone. The last place i worry about sound quality of music is when im fishing

DAB no DAB + yes your radio will work if it supports the latter
Though the technology is terrestrial so you won't pick up any UK stations.
With AM you'll pick up a few UK stations depending where you are .
Only way is ip based radio (over the internet)

I have an azatom radio for fishing and its brilliant. Also have a larger version (blackfriers) for the house and they are brilliant radios. very well made and user friendly. solid radios

I've just bought a spitalfields azatom and was dissapointed with the battery life. From a full charge I got 2 to 3 hours use them left it on standby overnight it was dead by the time I woke up. Ok for home use and taking into the bathroom while you bathe but not much use for anything else. As a radio it's good but not as a portable.

Is that after a few cycles?
Lithium batteries need a few charge/discharge cycles to get up to full performance, that does sound poor tho

I'm on my first charge using it too. It lasted 5 hours for me on volume 20 (loud). It's perfect for me. I brought an old small power bank with me and plugged it in for the afternoon. Unplugged at 7pm when I put LBC on the Pure. It was fully charged this morning again. The sound quality is immense. I did post earlier I need it being next to a motorway currently and did not know how great the battery would be on a radio with a subwoofer and high quality sound. You're right though the battery is not great in comparison to 60 hours of Pure. Azatom quote 10 hours. I will take a little power bank because I need that higher quality volume without the tinny sound.
Not the radio for a busy syndicate that's for sure. The nearest angler to me is a mile away. So for me it's exactly what I needed.
