Mid session had a visit from guy who was bivvied up further up bank from me. Having just landed a low twenty mirror which was retained to await his convience. The guy asked if he could borrow my waders excitedly to which I not having a pair with me due to considering them an unnecessary burden on this water so told him this upon hearing this he visibly looked horrified so offered the use of my welly s , he declined and returned to his swim whilst muttering his upset of not being able to use the pictures now for social media as he would look a Muppet with no wader wearing water shots. No doubt waders and water shots have a place but it's surely not essential as recent trophy shots dictate.

My mate was fishing a water a couple of years ago now. Lad came round, hey up mate, can you take me a picture, it's only a 12lber but I need a picture because I'm a tester for xyz bait company, my mates response, **** off

I asked him what did he say, nothing, ****ed off back to his swim in a sheepish manner lol

Like he said, a genuine reason, not a problem at all

They do seem to be more of fashion accessory not any old wader mind than a useful item to have when the need arises.

Watched an angler towards the end of last season doning a pair of said fashionable waders to wade out 5 yrds to make his 10 yard under hand lob a bit more easier..

Still do that on one lake I fish. About 10m of very shallow margin before the drop off into deeper water. Its a ressy that goes down to 16-20 ft. I like to be on my rods quickly on a take so I can't do with all the time consuming faff of getting waders on. So shorts or pants in the bag, pair of cheap Croc rip offs ready, feet in and the jobs a good un. Mind you from December to May its bloody chilly.

I got a pic of my camera of a mate with his pb common 28lb. He swam out in his pants to free it from a snag. No waders just crusty pants. Not Carpy but who gives a ****. It's all about getting those likes now days. Shows no real character just look at me in my vass waders. Don't forgot it's not carpy to use both straps

I have a picture of me with a 20lb common that thought it was bionic.
I had a take at 8.10 in the evening when the bailiff started his rounds on the lake, he eventually netted it for me at 9pm.

At one point the fish got its head into the undercut bank by a tree root, so I took my t-shirt and trainers off and jumped in still in wearing my combat trousers to free it by hand from that problem.

I might wear my chest waders to position a bait, (by hand) but to heck with wearing them for photographs unless I needed them on while playing a fish.

Even returning fish I will often go down to just socks and trousers to take it out to deeper water. I carry spare socks and trousers in my rucksack 'just in case' I get soaked, and to be honest combat trousers do dry out pretty quickly, especially in summer.

I have worn waders recently and not for wading. swim was an absolute quagmire of slippy, sucking mud and water. bivvy was set back on grassy area above the swamp. it was windy and pissing down with rain during the day, So only in shorts donned waders and goretex jacket and sat it out. ready to pounce and then.... nothing happened!

Out of the wind it was warm so was probably dryer outside the waders than in

My local club lake is an irrigation res the farmer recently took a load of water for his crops which dropped the water level by around 10ft, as it's pretty much a bowl it's still got 7ft in the middle but it also has very steep banks and now 8ft of gravelly sludge down to the edge and my walking boots weren't cutting it so used my waders but rolled em down for the pics of the carp I caught, I use them when it's neccarsary only one of the other club lakes has 8ft deep margin all the way round so never bother taking them there as that's not waiding but swimming

I have a pic somewhere from a long time ago, me looking very unimpressed, line in hand water up to my briefs, shortly afterwards I was shoulder deep before having to go under to free the line from under a boulder on the bottom. The pre text to that, it was a freezing October morn and I wasn't feeling too well, asked my mate to go in for it, think he just laughed and may have uttered a few swear words as well.

Also have a pic from a hour or 2 later, my mate up to his briefs, rod in hand, shaving cream all over his face...well he did set the precedent

they cant be the yellow vass waders as you end up being a yellow strap w@nker

I love my yellow strapped Vass waders but I wouldn't be seen dead in them down the lake or God forbid in a photo, they're strictly for errrhhh...wading.... in the river whilst trotting a stick float downstream.
I don't have a beard or tattoes either. Dammit, I'll probably have to sell my tackle now and take up Bowls, the shame of it.

EDIT, bright yellow Vass but everything else has to be camo...go figure

I like wearing my waders with no pants on,the feel of rubber against the skin is quite nice
