What 30 plus 40's in The Manor in 5 to 6 acres, give me a break. Fish in a barrel much? The Mill is just as ridiculous stock wise, Bernies is 700 fish in it with a mental amount of 30's. Blokes catch these fish and act like literal hero's. Lol.

Each to their own IMO, if you wanna fish for these “gorillion fish” then leave them to it, if you wanna fish a big pit with 20 fish in it then do it. To many people worry about what others do within all aspects of life, if they're happy then who cares.

I get the feeling that a lot of the ‘state of carp fishing' groaners don't get to do a lot of rewarding fishing. If you're happy doing your own thing on your own water fishing for the fish you want to catch who cares about these holiday venues?!

People are very happy doing their own thing on places like Wraysbury until the day they cannot.
Nothing magical ever came from chucking money at it.
People have spent absolutely hours reading/watching stories about many anglers doing time on places like Wraysbury. None of us will be inspired by chapters written on the banks of Holme Fen or dare I say it, RK. Simple as that.
People are very happy doing their own thing on places like Wraysbury until the day they cannot.
Nothing magical ever came from chucking money at it.

I do chuckle at the posts that moan about carp fishing being money driven when there are similar posts about having a 3 Rod set up, bivvy, cooker, trolley etc. that cost as much as my house... (insert north west house price joke here) ... if you don't like the beast then stop feeding it maybe...

Can't say I have ever needed watch a video or read a book to inspire me to go fishing.I go because I absolutely love it,whether I'm float fishing for silvers,casting feathers for mackerel or carp fishing I just love being out and next to water

If you want to start a thread about what YOU think is adequate tackle to catch fish, go right ahead, I don't care. The point I'm making is the ridiculous stock levels of some of these places; don't even try to conflate the two and have you sly little dig.

I'm not knocking some young gun catching a whopper from Holme Fen, to the point I'd say well done. I've said this of places like Grenville, these places have little merit.
Places like Wrasbury back in the day with its 25 to 30 fish in 140 acres, now to my mind that is meritorious, so much so that's why people like Dave Lane, Jim Shelley, Terry Hearn etc are in large part the anglers that they are with all of the associated trimmings like sponsorship deals etc.that came after their captures from such waters, not that the latter is what it's all about for me in the slightest.
To my mind catching a huge carp from Holme Fen is not much different from fools shooting a hog In a pen which is full of them dressed in cammos and the full hunting attire, well done that man 👏

You could argue that some people haven't got lots of time on their hands and what I'm suggesting is simply not on their radar - I'm a weekend angler due to work. All the same, the places I've listed in previous posts are just daft, the fortunate thing about all of this is that places like where I'm fishing, because the stock is so low, the water so large and known to be as hard as nails is super quiet - 4 anglers on a massive water all weekend and I'm one of those lucky 4, awesome.

JUST brilliant 14 years old got a 50+ and now a 70 + already very impressive ! chuffed for the lad bet the old man is pleased and gutted at the same time eh lol that kids a good angler and got a great future Congratulations to him

Fishing a big, low stock hard nails water doesn't make you a good angler though, finding them and catching them without living on there and boring them out is a different story.

People have been spending alot of money on fishing holidays all around Europe for years,for what low stocked waters with a chance of a certain fish or big fish and plenty of them.Now there are venues like that in the UK it causes all this bull**** when one of the big ones is caught,people need to get a grip.Carp fishing is dead,in my day it was amazing There are waters out there to suit everyone's fishing,go and enjoy it as tomorrow it might be taken away from you

Again, ad hominem. I never claimed to be anything. I pointed out the plus side of these crazily over stocked waters, a sliver lining if you will. I'd happily fish forgotten places with just a handful of mid doubles in and let the rest of um fish places like the Mill etc.

Whilst I find myself agreeing with a lot of what you say I'm long past caring about these type of venues as I realised a long time ago they serve a purpose for those that don't care about the history of UK carp fishing or those that just want big. The days of the quite estate lake and farm/hammer pond are numbered sadly as they are being bought up and made private or for commercial purposes. In my area the vast majority have gone this way and places I fished in the seventies and eighties are shadows of what they once were. Guess I've just become one of those grumpy old men and will soon be telling everyone in my day blah blah blah.

Too many carp anglers live in the past. Long have the good old exciting days where the lakes like the mere, Horton etc were Mecca. It is what it is nowadays. Modern bait boats, drones, stupid baitng poles and lakes filled with big fish. All these big carp all over social media will be the downfall of our sport and it will die out. 25 years ago I along with most other keen fisherman knew every British record. Holme fen is a water like any French water so keep it for what it is.

How do I angle the venues I used to which were relatively low stock with few angler when they have been bought and turned into higher stocked commercial venues that bare no resemblance to what they were? Even the landscape of many has change with trees cut down and snags removed to create more swims and revenue. Move with the times yeah let's ignore hs2 and all the development going on over the country distroying vast areas of our countryside;, hey ho.
