After using fluorocarbon for quite a few years l've decided to go back to mono, only going to be fishing upto about 70yds max no real snags but got to be 15lb so anyone know or recommend which is the best sinking mono out there.

I've been on Gardner pro light for the past 4 or 5 years. I think it sinks well, also very supple and great value.

Another vote for the gardner pro light. Ive tried the gardner gthd, terrible. And the esp synchro, horrendous tow rope stuff.
I always end up going back to the pro. Does everything you could ever want, its as tough as old boots and its less than 15quid a spool. Brilliant stuff

I used the GTHD in 12lb for a season and I reckon it's probably one of the best lines I've ever used. I couldn't find anything I didn't like about it.

My favourite is "Asso Sinking Mainline", sinks like a brick, nearest to 15lb is 16lb 0.35, its never let me down, very limp and virtually invisible in water and tough as old boots.
But, I wanted to do a respool and just looking to buy some this minute, it maybe discontinued. I hope not, it was damm good stuff. This could be a tragedy if they have, I hate having to go back to using inferior products or finding suitable alternatives that may not be as good.
But, thinking about it, is it like many things since Brexit and Coronavirus kicked in, with it being made in Italy, I believe, maybe its one of the many things that has become hard to get hold of because of transportation delays etc. Cycling is my main hobby and eeven shops are getting low on stocks of spares coming from places around the World, so fishing tackle may be the same. Asso still have it in their catalogue so maybe it still is being produced.
I did read a few days ago, that many things will not be available till well after Xmas 2021 when normality gets back.

Why go back to mono? If you want it to sink then use flurocarbon.

On the contrary, Gt-hd and Syncro are two of the most popular mono's about.
I've been using Syncro for a while and can't fault it in the 15lb. It sinks brilliantly, tough as old tits and casts well enough for me (110-120's). It can get a little wiry between trips but a soaked sweatband on the spool before loading the car totally sorts that.
I only got a spool of the Syncro because the Gt-hd was out of stock for ages. I'd recommend that just as highly.

I've also been using Syncro for a few months after switching from Sub Line. Agree with all these points - I really like it. So much so, I've just bought another spool of it to put on my other set of reels.
That soaked sweatband idea is brilliant, I'm totally nicking that one! It does behave much better when wet.

The Gardner Pro and the ESP Synchro are much of a muchness imo. Both good lines.
The GT-HD is decent too, but doesn't sink quite as well (but is better for casting).
The Pro or the Synchro are a good call. Worth a look at Hydro Tough as well, especially as distance aint an issue (it's more of a snag line, indestructible).

I think mines 15lb and i use it with Naked chod set up as i dont get along with fluorocarbon at all... and up to around 30 to 40 yards it isnt an issue at all... you just struggle in strong cross winds

I used the 15lb for about half a season, i thought it was shocking. Proper kinked up, didn't sink very well, very wirey i found so it didn't cast anywhere near as well. Compared to the pro it was pants in my opinion.

Fair enough mate but i couldnt get on with either of those. The gardner pro is bomb proof in my opinion, but each to their own i suppose. I hated daiwa sensor back in the day and everyone raved about that lol.

are you talking about the loaded version ?
as THE NORMAL SUPERIOR ESP Syncro XT Line is a superb line !!!!......... it casts ok sinks well and is a very consistent line and I have been using it for a few years now cant fault it nothing better in mono IMHO

💯 agree with you Gerry. I have settled in this for a few years now and can't fault it at all. As you say ticks every box I need and never been left wanting in any situation, whether that be casting, sinking or abrasion resistance

Swapped from Syncro XT to Berkley CM90 and really rate this stuff, although seems hard to get hold of at the moment

I prefer the original version but a couple of years ago all I could get was the loaded. It is not as supple, and has to be cast out and reeled in first thing on every session to loose the memory coils but it does sink better and is as tough and strong as the original..it still on my reels now and has caught me loads of fish.. Would I buy it again, possibly not first choice but wouldn't be worried if I had to.

Korda touchdown is a good sinking line. It's like you're peeling it off the bottom reeling in. 20lb is very good line 👍

Last year i used Cm90 topline, since this year I use the Korda Tochdown and prefer it over CM90, sinks very well, strong on the knot, no kinks and casts further than the CM90.

Sub lines good , Flourocarbon 20lb x lines is great , usually use for leaders with braid

Doesn't say much for monofilament development if Pro Gold is still top of the pile. I used to use it donkeys years ago.

Monofilament is monofilament , it hasn't really evolved much.
Don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from:-
It doesn't cast as well as some, is more prone to twisting \ less supple, but that's all minimal - it's mono.
But it's reliable, tough, and is the lowest stretch mono you can buy, end of, and that's the only reason I buy it.
Plus it sinks well, and I like the colour, which suites the waters I fish. Not that makes a difference to the Carp ?

Not sure there is a best, I usually work on the assumption that the thicker diameter the heavier it should be.
Currently using Gardner Pro Light Blend in XM which is .40 very thick & wiry but still having a few problems with debris / algae lifting it and I'm only in the edge.
It does make me wonder what it could be like fishing further out and whether a return to my old 20lb X-Line is in order at certain times of the year?
