What do you guys use for a pre bait? Im relcutant to use boilies as there so expensive. I need something cheap and a lot off it!
So far Im thinking sweetcorn and chickpeas would be my best bet. But I'm unsure how I would get them all the way out in a lake without a spod rod.
Any suggestions?

Vitalin and particles. Boil up particles then add to vitalin whilst still warm. When it has soaked in for 1/2 an hour ball it up and catapult it in.

Maples, chick peas and maize.
I've always used maize and prepared it myself. 25k £9 it's dirt cheap. That 25k makes nearer 40k prepared

Bird food from £1 land (the ones with no nuts in)they do a blue bag more flakes maize etc too
Also Indian seeds from supermarket lentils, hemp, corn, chickpeas anything like this soak for 24 hours or more then boil.
Use this all time on canal and small lakes helps hold fish keeps them grubbing around also you can add spices and sweet stuff too.
Sometimes I've added coconut milk and carnation caramel cream to the mix or gone other way adding a jar or 2 of curry sauces to it something a bit different

Dry particles - maize and pigeon conditioner are dirt cheap but you need to buy in bulk (20kg sacks) to get the cheap prices. Soak for minimum 24 hours (ideally 48) then boil till the baize starts to split open and is softish.
There's other options too, hemp, maple peas, tiger nuts, groats, buckwheat etc but can be a bit more expensive.
There's a pinned post at the top of the page explaining how to cook all the different particles. It's critical they are prepared properly or you could end up killing fish.

Mate, are you near to a good tackle shop or animal feed place? Or pet supply store? Ask them. Also, if you search for this stuff you'll find a stack of recent info as I can see you are asking stacks of questions (great way to learn BTW).
Failing that Maltbys online are good.

Just look for what's commonly called Pigeon Conditioner.
It's a variation of seeds and usually has an aniseed smell.
Easy to prepare by just placing in a container with a resealable lid (bucket or cool box etc.)
Just add boiling water at around 3 times the volume of the Pigeon Conditioner put lid on and leave for around 12 hours. If you want to bulk your particle mix out further i would probably add Maize.

50 or so boilies broken in to pieces, flicked into likely looking places 2 or 3 times a week is all you need, and if the lakes busy and you are being watched 3 or 4 handfuls of pea gravel in unlikely looking spots 😉

With goat mix do you soak it and boil it first? Or do you just add water an hour before you use it?
I dont think goat mix is included on the particle preparation guide in which most things are soaked then boiled.

I use Pigeon squeaker mix. Loads of different peas/beans and very similar price to maize, the advantage being that if the fish are a little wary of big beds of yellow the squeaker is a lot more varied.

mmm - depends on your POV - have you ever actually done this . . ?
In a small syndy with a low stock why compete against each other especially if fish are hooked on naturals / holed up in weed 95% of the time? . . By everyone feeding a quality food bait of the same label then by effectively pre-baiting for each other you can make a MASSIVE difference to everyone's results, but most importantly your own . . .you've still got to be able to fish properly in the first place!

. . .all depends on the water(s) you fish. Agree a different bait / spot can catch you different fish, but on some syndicates (that are judged on bites per season) competing against other anglers can sometimes make it more difficult . . .
I fished a lake like this - top rod was 18 fish for the season which was an amazing result. After agreeing between ourselves as members we all switched to the same bait the following season and effectively pre-baited for each other simply by fishing . . .suffice to say everyone's results improved expediently . . .just sayin . . .!

Vitalin is a brilliant bait, and balls up really well so perfect for what you want. Other brands may be ok, it depends on what's in them really. But vitalin is cheap as chips so no need to look anywhere else really

Vitalin is a mix of flaked maize, oats, meat and bone meal. You look at it, and it looks like a dry groundbait😉
It only needs water adding, mixing, letting soak in for around 15minutes, and will then ball up nicely.
If you add particles with the juice like pigeon conditioner, you can add them in exactly like the water.
It still balls up nicely, and can also be moulded around the lead and hookbait like a Method groundbait.

Agree with what many have already said on this thread, big sacks of vitalin and pigeon conditioner and cheap to buy and easy to prep. If got access to a cab and carry it such like to buy big tins of sweetcorn to add to the mix and give it a bit of colour can help but if you haven't buying big bags of uncooked maize and cooking yourself is a great and cost affective alternative. Any large pet stores should supply all of the above making it easy to get your hands on. Add water to the vitalin in a bucket until it becomes damp enough to form into balls but not squeezed too tight it goes like concrete. Add the other ingredients and can make a very cheap alternative to buying bags of groundbait and it's very easy to throw out. If baiting up further out is fine to fill a spod or spomb as loosefeed and get out to desired area. Vitalin clouds the water up being used as it is but can easily take on added flavours and colours to give it and extra boost but it's so good this isn't really needed👍

I'm definitely going to get some vitalin. I'm using goat mix at the moment and I have to add flour to ball it up. I think vitalin, sweetcorn and hemp would be irresistible to carp. Is it worth adding a liquid to the mix like hemp oil or is that not even needed.
Is there an alternative cheaper liquid attractant than hemp oil? I've heard some people say sunflower and salmon oil are good.

Carp can't detect oils so they offer nothing in terms of attraction, their benefits come when ingested so chucking them in loose feed is a waste of money
