Later this year I will move onto a water that allows you to use a boat. This makes using ground bait at decent range a lot more realistic.
Dropping from the boat means a rock hard ball will not be necessary, and I would like to use the ground bait purely for attraction, so no larger food items like hemp or corn.
Liquids are obviously a major consideration, and no need to boil the best bits out.
What would you guys want in your mix?

Hinders Blitz Multi Mix is wicked for warmer months, nice and meaty. It has a few 2mm pellets in it.

A simple answer as a base for any groundbait mix is Vitalin original dog food.
You can add pellets, particles, chopped or whole boilies, and pretty much any liquid.
It will ball up for throwing, catapulting or in the bait hopper if mixed fairly dry with just water or your prepared particles (add water/particles and liquid, mix in, leave for 15-30minutes), or don't ball it and just put in the spod, bait boat hopper or tip it in from the boat.
To be honest I don't often add any other liquid, just the particles or water, but in the past I have added molasses, liquid yeast and a few others.
I save my bread crusts and grind them up for adding to groundbait.
Last few years on Alton I made a Vitalin mix very wet, almost slurry, added particles and boilies, extra water and tipped it off the bridge or from the bank onto my spots. It caught a lot of carp.
If I couldn't get into the bridge swims, or had to fish further out, I kept to a drier mix, and spodded or Spombed it in.

Thanks Nick, and yes, I've used vitalin before many times. But I'm specifically looking for a mix with no particles, whole pellets or food bits in and it does not need to ball up hard.
I was thinking along the lines of a boilie mix but without all the binders; pdf, a fine birdfood, maybe some finely ground pellet or breadcrumb mixed up with a hydro or molasses.
I don't want to feed them, just draw them in

I don't think it would work too well
Anything that attractive without be edible , well hopefully dosnt exist😂
I understand you want to get them searching without over feeding etc
Maybe use hemp?
To be honest the list is endless
One of my favourites is rice , just to buy a bite
Boilie crumb , ordinary ground bait, bread crumb , the already mentioned vitalin
I used to use rusk as a kid and it worked a treat
Edit not Farlies , from the butchers

You could always pour liquid straight off the boat as long as you choose a heavy thick one it will go straight to the bottom, or maybe just mix the liquids with sand.

I would use PD fishmeal (the hydro tuna powder from BAF is very pungent and highly soluble), bread crumb, maybe a milk powder like lamlac and then (assuming you use boilies) a good amount of crumbed up boilies.
You can add any liquid you like, try and choose two, one light and one heavy, and mix them as it will lift up and down the water column. Maybe something like Hydro Wheat and Hemp oil?
Adding a few small pellets and some hemp is not going to give them much to feed on but will help add to the attraction so don't discount it.

. . .boilie crumb and mixed sizes of pellet . . .bread crumb and mashed sweetcorn . . .method mix and several tins of flaked tuna . . the list is endless. Monsta PVA bags that you cannot normally cast and overloaded with liquids are a good shout with a baitboat . . .plus being able to use stupidly heavy leads (6oz plus) . . .

I'm in a similar situation to you and what has worked for me is using predominantly liquids. In my case the dna Spod syrups that really dig into the bottom. I've actually been using that with minimal solid food items just a small amount of crushed boilie crumb lightly compressed and fed in off the boat. Maximum attraction with minimum actual food for them to eat.

Made a good one years ago, red & black breadcrumb was the base, provimi 66 fish meal, crushed hempseed, liver & betaine powders, 2mm marine pellets, about 10 different spices.
It's from memory and I may of added a cheese powder and some other stuff which escapes me, if I can find my old diaries and locate it I'll give you the levels.
Some anglers used to roll boilies out of it and it was very effective, think deaffred on here used to buy some off me and my mate for his French fishing escapades, can't be sure though?!
Liquid wise then agree with Smurf, oily one and heavy one, underused tactic.

Layers mash, copra meal, micronised wheat and flaked maize would all work well and keep costs right down. Maybe a sack of provimi fishmeal and some molasses meal (if you can find it)
Load this with a decent hydo, chuck in some other bits and you'd be laughing

Yes it did!
My memory is shot, haven't been able to find my diary with the levels yet.

What would the tiger nut meal bring?
In reply to Post #17
Tiger nuts are very effective in various forms.
We created this groundbait (2000ish?) we wanted something a step up from the bog standard ones but the biggest factor was we were fishing a lake with a nut ban!

Try sticking the Vitalin through a food blender😉
I did also notice a comment about tigers nuts, stick them through a coffee grinder or food blender as well...
Just soak and boil, then mix in with the ground Vitalin

Apologies, I've yet to find the recipe, I do know from thinking about it that we made it via big tea mugs and am pretty sure it was 8 mugs of red breadcrumb and the same of black crumb as the base, may give you something to experiment with?
I'd be happy with just Provimi as the fish meal content.

I have worked with two of the best U.K. match anglers for several years and between us we played around with several main ingredients. You can deviate off on all sorts of tangents with nut meals and cereals but the reality is that although economical, they offer little attraction compared to two or three simple ingredients. Ground pellets (expander, green Betaine, krill, halibut) combined with a good boilie crumb will offer attraction, good food signals and yet can be made small enough to not fill carp up whilst keeping them active in your swim for long periods.
