Every day FB posts about people ripping people off on FB Carp pages, people posting about tackle being stolen. Can you tell me why this branch of the sport attracts societies scum?

I know for a fact that there are tackle thieves on FB pages scouting peoples houses on google earth. You give your address so someone can collect a rod holdall, the fella then gets your address and uses street view and satellites to see where your shed is. It's almost too easy. We chucked one fella off a selling group after being told that he was buying tackle off of smackheads in his area. If I did get my gear nicked, the last thing I would do is post a list of what was nicked, all you will do is end up pushing the stuff further away or further underground.

Never ever sell from your house when selling Fishing tackle ether post or meet somewhere.. Never really bought of these FB selling pages but have sold.. in general it's always been a good experience. But I have had the odd messer, it goes with the territory. But it's not just people selling fishing tackle its everyone. My Mrs used to sell loads on these pages with the same issues. It's the world we live in I'm afraid.

A few years ago we decided on a sofa change. We had a fairly large leather corner sofa, it was in good condition. Rather than skip it which would have been a real waste, or have the hassle of trying to get it a charity shop, my wife advertised it for free on Facebook as long as it was collected. A young couple turned up, they gave us a story about how it was exactly what they were looking for. Perfect for their house as they had a young family. Etc. We felt really good that we were helping someone out as we didn't have any money when we bought our first houses years ago.
Two days later it appeared for sale for a few hundred quid on Facebook. These people were just out to profit from others good intentions.

Had the same only a couple of weeks ago, gave away some blinds we had replaced with new ones, chap turned up and said he had just moved house and needed the blinds for his new house, a week later they appeared on a local for sale site. That's a lot of hassle to go to to make £30, assuming he sold them for what he was asking for them.
Still I suppose it's better than them being dunped.

He or maybe she, feck knows, but they wanted £300 for them. They sold for £330! Makes you wonder...

I fly fish a water in Hampshire. The owner was telling me how initially he was going to run it as a Carp day ticket but he said luckily he did a bit of homework on the internet. Joined a few forums and FB pages. He said he couldn't believe just how bad the sport was.
He said he'd basically be opening his land up to thieves and the sort of people that you wouldn't want turning up on your doorstep, he even said some of these knuckle draggers cant even use a toilet to take a crap
The fly water takes a hell of a lot less money than he could of made via carp but he said he's never had a single problem and every customer is a decent person, he'd rather the piece of mind than the extra money.

Yep. I think you are correct. I think it's the camping, whole weekend on the session thing that appeals to these clowns. Plus for your average ****er who wants to show off down the pub to his mates, he can go and catch a mug scraper twenty and to the untrained numpty, compared to the bit of cod they got from the chippy, that looks a big fish. It attracts the low life because its the easiest form of fishing to get into, as has been said numerous times ready made bait, rigs etc head to the nearest over stocked mud hole and camp out 'covid permitting' photos straight to fb. On the plus side most of these guys will rarely test themselves on a rock hard low stock sindycate with a long waiting list or a huge wind swept pit/reservoir.

Carp fishing is the easy option to get into fishing as it is 'laid back', can smoke and drink on an overnight trip, or even a day session.
Other aspects you have to work harder for your fishing, although the 'carp approach' is getting into other species like barbel, even roach to some extent.
