Although its completely different to 'A Passion for Angling' , it is a great programme and probably represents what angling means to many of us.. mates being silly,crotchety and sometimes quite philosophical about the world in general! I was a bit late switching it on,but it always puts a smile on my face

Their lack of interest in doing the night when they did modern carp fishing was interesting.
some team had set them up with 1000s of £ worth of Bivvies, beds, bags, chairs. and they ****ed off LOL

Bumped into them fishing the Royalty for Barbel earlier this year.
Dynamic was exactly as it is on screen - basically Paul moaning that Bob was ruining the fishing with his terrible casting (it was shocking btw).
Had a lovely chat - couldn't have been nicer.

My mum's 80 doesn't like fishing but enjoys their show. Who in their right mind wouldn't. Two very funny guys bouncing off each other as a double act, with genuine affection. Touch of Eric and Ernie I think.

Never did I think a programme like this would capture the essence of fishing so well. Mates, enjoying the great British countryside, having a laugh and appreciating the small things. The odd fish that's nothing more than a bonus. Perfect

Oh now that was brilliant. I used to run home from primary school at lunchtime in the hope he'd be fishing.
For some strange reason I recollect him using a Zebco closed faced reel in at least one episode.

I really enjoyed it,seeing where Bob grew up and the gift he gave Paul was nice too

to be honest it was good BUT
if you watch the series on catchup tv you will see better episodes some breath taking locations and some simply hilarious moments in my opinion one of the best series for years loosely based on angling and enjoying life

Thoroughly enjoyed it as I did all the others, and the book, this is to me what getting out there is all about, enjoying life away from the world with the chance of a kipper or two

Both Me and the wife watched it last night...Even she laughed at the banter between them, said it reminded her so much of me and a mate who I dont to get to fish with often enough... ... Really enjoyed the episode.
Shocked at the state of CR tho...looking rather haggard but unsurprising considering what hes been through!
As Braders said Bobs gift was very personal and rather touching...

was shocked to see Chris Rea I still remember him as he was in 1986 when he recorded this but consider ring what he went thru its a credit to the NHS he is still above ground

Agree a couple of very touching moments, but not as funny or irreverential as most of the regular series. Enjoyable but not a belly laugh episode like some of the others. Christmas episode has to be different I suppose.. Still enjoyed watching it. Raised a few smiles.

The wife and I watched over in France and thoroughly enjoyed, as we have all their other episodes. I am a huge Chris Rea fan, one of my favourite albums is Deltics, a wonderful listen and that is exactly what we did once the programme had finished. One of the times I saw Chris Rea was a few days prior to Christmas in Stoke, what a concert that was! Sad to hear him tell what he has been through but a least his elbows aren't touching wood.

Watched it last night with the good wife.... we both throughly enjoyed it...such a beautiful and calm hour....in this day and age a rare hour of pure indulgence...brought a tear to the eye and a warm glow inside...far removed from the madness of carp angling thats for sure lol

I hope that Paul's reaction to his Christmas gifts from Bob wasn't staged as it was genuinely lovely. What a great show.

It is a nice place, fished the breakwater and the rock gullies a few times in the past. We stayed in the cottage next door some years ago, certainly can't remember it being as nice as their cottages.
The village is currently split in half, the Cowbar side, where they stayed, is in tier 3, and across the beck, Staithes is in tier 2.
A delightful show, good to see them showing the north east in a positive light.
It is a nice place, fished the breakwater and the rock gullies a few times in the past. We stayed in the cottage next door some years ago, certainly can't remember it being as nice as their cottages.
