Wow, what a bit of kit the deeper is.
You hear the words game changer banded around quite a lot, this deeper is well deserving of the title. Really does open up the mystery of what lays below. This isn't a review as such, just a few remarks on this new device.
I don't know how others are using them, for me, I'm just using it to map out the bottom and to know what is out there and what to avoid, for that it's perfect. Well happy with it. And that lakebed app they've got going is very handy. All in all, a very good bit of kit and well thought out software

It shows fish mate, can even choice the size of fish you want to show up but tbh I have that feature turned off on mine and just use it for the bottom and depth

As richpp says, they do show the fish and you can chose between small, medium and large. I don't really know what they relate to to be fair. How large is the large size? I did have it on just to see what it shows up for a while. Found a bunch of so called large fish bunched up at one point not far from where I was, didn't catch anything. It does have options where you can have it show up either how far from the surface or the bottom fish are.
In the new app it auto builds a mapping out for you that you can upload or just view on your phone or tablet which shows up all of the underlying contours. Very revealing to say the least and very handy for future reference
I can't see that it'll be that long before these things have side scan and the likes. All in all, for someone who was never that fused about this sort of tech, I'm sold on it.

I was interested to see that although I use mine with the fish icons switched off, when reviewing the scans online later, all the fish icons are there in the maps.

Mine works to about 90/95 yards with my samsung s6.
Just remember just because there is a fish ico it does not necessarily mean its fish could be a few other reasons .
By the way how are people getting on with the latest software version.?

Have a look at fisheye camera website he does WiFi extenders that will boost the range the deeper will work at over 200 yards , I've just had my deeper chirp installed in my ND2 Baitboat and joe jacobs that installed it has modify the range on the deeper chirp so it work at 150 to 170 yards

Yep that's the one all you need to do is give Matt a number from your deeper so he can programme it into the WiFi extender and it works fine then nothing else needed just needs mounting on a tripod few feet of the ground

What phone do you have bud? Deeper's are well known to work better on iPhone (iOS) I've used my deeper chirp to 120/130 yards on my wave runner without any modifications and it worked fine

I bought one recently and use it on the Trent, great bit of kit. It also still shows fish with fish icons switched off, in fact it's better. They're just another object after all. They appear as arches, the thicker the arch the bigger the fish.

As mentioned below I've done the extension by connecting it to an external router and have had no issues towing it on my boat at well over 170

How far does it cast? I don't own a boat and most of the lakes I am on have them banned anyway so need to cast. I have always avoided them as I have been too nervous to cast, I had a go at casting one of the fish spy devices at a show and did not feel confident at putting much effort into it so range was very restricted, which made it feel like a waste of money to me and put me off really looking at any of these, although I can definitely see the benefits of them

Hi All,
As you all know myself and Peter Andrew Simmons have been working on a way to extend the range of the Deeper and Raymarine without modifying the device.
We come up with this method between us and have shared the information so anglers don't have to spend hundreds of pounds on what is basically a £25 router.
Please see below a full guide on what is needed and how you change the settings to achieve over 200 Meters.
You need to buy the below 3 items and have access to a computer to change the settings of the router,

3. Power bank of your choice.
Guide
Step 1 - On your computer disconnect from your home network, depending how you are connected you can either turn off your WiFi or take out the LAN cable.
Step 2 - Power on the Tplink WR940N router and plug in the supplied LAN cable to LAN port 1 and then in to your computer. Wait a couple of minutes for your router to get a connection with your computer. Some times this is instant and sometimes it will take a minute or 2.
Step 3 - Open up your web browser, In my case I use chrome. In the web address bar put in http://tplinkwifi.net or you can also use 192.168.0.1 this will direct you to a log in screen.
Step 4 - Input admin for the username and admin for the password and click login.
Step 5 - Once you have logged in navigate to the left hand side of the screen and click on working mode, then change the working mode to range extender and click save. It will then ask you to confirm the selection and warn you that the router will reboot. Press ok and wait for the router to reboot.
Step 6 - Once the router has finished rebooting you will be faced with the login screen of the router again, input admin for both username and password and login again.
Step 7 - Once logged in navigate to the left hand side of the screen and click wireless, once wireless has been clicked you will be on the "connect to network" screen.
Step 8 - Power on your echo sounder, In my case I'm using a deeper pro +. I have placed the deeper in a bowl of water so it powers on you can also unscrew the top and connect a power cable which also keeps the device on. Once your device is powered on go back to your computer and click the survey button.
Step 9 - Once you have pressed the survey button a new window will appear and it will come up with all networks in range of your router, click connect next to the device you want to extend. This will then take you back to the connect to network screen and the SSID and MAC address will have been filled. You then need to go down to the password and change to the password that is needed for your device, for my deeper its 12345678. Then click save and wait for 30 seconds whilst the settings are saved.
Step 10 - Navigate to the left hand side of the screen and click extended network, add "_EXT" to the end of the SSID and click save. Wait another 30 seconds for the settings to be saved and then click off the internet browser.
Step 11 - Search on your phone/tablet for the extended WiFi network with "_EXT" on the end. Both SSID's will show up but you need to connect to the extension network to achieve the extended range. You then connect to the relevant app as you usually would.
Don't forget to connect back to your home network so you can continue using the internet as normal again on your computer.
I have listed the routers that has been tested so far below, if you manage to test another router with success please message me and I will add to the list.
Please note a lot of routers will work but the steps might vary slightly so I have put this guide up for the TPlink WR940N only.

I use mine on the Trent, so if it's gone it's gone! I use 85lb Armakord leader with 58lb braid plus a wire trace and still worry about it 😂

It does look funky when you first open it. From memory you have to create an account, you can set it up with Google or Facebook. Open up your WiFi and connect to the deeper in your WiFi settings, go back to the app, drop it in the water and click 'press to connect' and you should be good to go

I purchased one with the plan of using on a lake I am planning a Champaign on. Have used it on my current syndicate and it's opened my eyes on there. More over I like using its when there is a half decent wind so I cast out and let it collect data, no point thrashing it about. I tend to be able to cover 3000 sq metres during a few hours.the range does drop as the power goes below 40% none the less it's superb.
I've visited a new lake I'm on and have used it for three consecutive sundays a few hours at a time, the last time I was there I met one of the bailiffs and we exchanged findings and then offered to share his mapping of the lake view lake view. Although we haven't as yet I was bowled over, the info I've gained on my own has been superb. Plan on mapping the lake out this year prior to fishing it during the convo the fishes behaviour was discussed during the 4 seasons which is beyond priceless.

Looking at the blurb the new one has a longer lasting battery and comes with the orange (night) cap so no real changes from a mapping perspective.

I've bought a chirp recently, only used it a couple of times and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction please.
I think I'm having gps connection issues, it says 'looking for gps' then 'gps found' constantly switching between them, the chirp icon on the bathymetric map jumps all over the place. Other than turning on WiFi and turning mobile data off I can't find any other instructions. I use a Samsung s10.

Make sure you have no metal or obstacles between your phone and the device when it's cast in the water. Have it as high up as possible, not on the ground. Cloud coverage, pilons etc can affect the signal.

Are you in a valley or a densely wooded area where the signal is poor? Had similar problems myself in poor reception areas where the signal would monkey about. If it's these sorts of problems, it's down to your phone not being able to receive the satralite signal

Try using a app called gps data. Before you use the deeper app.
It improves my use of my run keeper app on my old Samsung phone.
This will not help if you are in a densely wooded area but improves the GPS signal lock in for want of a way of putting it.

I'm not in the middle of nowhere nor in a heavily wooded area, I'm at the bottom of the colne valley fairly near Heathrow. The only swim I've tried it on is virtually on the hard shoulder of the M25, if I cast backwards I could probably cast right over it and I'm fairly sure satellite and gps works there ok
I've taken the cover off my phone and put it in a holder screwed into an extended 24” storm pole, I've only tried it out by casting 40-50 yards and retrieved slowly but the results I'm getting seem poor at best.
