Don't get me wrong these are great hook baits but just had a look for some more and cant believe how much they have gone up over the last couple years £17 a tub now more expensive than custom corkballs. There obviously still selling well as every time I go on the basket is disabled.

I bought three tubs a couple of years ago and didn't think twice about it as the prices were comparable with other non-corkball baits. Since then the prices have nearly trebled. It's just nuts now.

that's business though isn't it, when demand out strips supply, put your prices up.

One, to maximise profit and two, hopefully slow demand. Im sure if they wernt as good as they are, no one would buy them and they would be £10 a tub. Ive never used em but the fact they are in such demand, selling out every single time, they must be really good and catch a lot of fish otherwise no one would bother eh.

He seems to add a lot of desirable ingredients, and his reputation, the baits are held in very high regard.

They look well rooled from the images on the site.

Many fans out there ?

Fair play to the guy......if he can sell them faster than he can make them at £15/£17 a pot then good luck to him for building up that demand. In terms of the bait, it is all impeccably rolled and they have been my go-to hookbaits for a few years. A couple of the combos have been amazingly productive for me, so much so, that I have have a few pots stockpiled in case they get discontinued, which one version has. Everyone has their preferences but my own experience with some of these baits means I'll continue to buy them.......even at £17 a pot😳

Hats of to the man he is doing great marketing wise.... put out you are selling your company, cut the supply so prices sky rocket and make your company worth more... of course you need to have 1 class product to achieve that normally... good luck to him...

Get what your saying but if there is 30 baits in a pot then its approx £1 per bait / per fish, No different to those super sharp hooks or leads in reality......Add in the confidence factor and its well worth its money to lots of people obviously......

I don't quite believe that this company can't keep up with the demand.

More of a marketing ploy IMO.

They are not making 100's of kilos of bait per week, and with such huge profit margins being made, it would be stupid not to ramp up production to keep up with the demand. Simply involve a mate or two in production or a family member or even a full time member of staff.

thing is he closed the shop before putting the price at 30 quid so you can't buy any anyway. the price might as well say 300 quid..........it don't matter because you can't buy them. the price before he put the shutters up was 17.99 which was still ridiculous for airball type baits . I've got a full tub of cell a tub of pineapple and some scopex/squid specials. 200 quid and you can have them lol

I have not made pop ups before but I have made bottom baits for years using a 40 quid gun and a table plus a kenwood chef. 10kg of bait could be made in 4 hours.

I appreciate there is drying time / admin time but at best 2 days work to sell 10 kg of pop ups / over 300 pots.

25 quid profit per pot gives: 1500 quid gross profit for 2 days work.

All a rough calculation but it's BS to say they can't keep up with the demand.

Ie the demand is simply not there.

I do alright on CC Moore Northern Specials. Mate of mine swears by Baitroom Wafters & Pop ups. Each to their own I guess when it comes to price. Clearly there is a demand from anglers who are happily to pay that much. With demand created by disabling the basket too. Good luck to him. 😎

Here's a thought. If you were mr bait maker and you didn't have capacity to make any more baits. But you had a load of less popular pots you wanted to get rid of. If you make them £30 on your site, but unobtainable, suddenly if you get a load listed on eBay, for £30, they don't look as expensive. Mr eBay buyer checks your site and sees that £30 is infact the RRP

Caught a lot on one particular bait he did but cant get that any more, the bait is very well rolled and the waffters are probably the best out there for doing what they are meant to do and the consistency is spot on.

I found the wafters to hold a size 8 up perfectly before putting one out, but after 12 hours they sunk extremely quick. Not worth the money.
For anyone who likes perfect wafters have a go at DNA's they are brilliant and you get a ridiculous amount in a pot.

From Facebook:

"It is with much regret that I have decided to permanently close the Bait Room and take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to a loyal customer base for your past support.
I have reached a point where I could sell a whole months work in just a few minutes via the website, money and orders were coming in so fast I couldn't keep up with it. Sounds great but after a while it grinds you down, 18 hour days, 7 days a week without a let up... no matter what the price point. Couple that with an industry and high profile anglers that on the whole utterly refuse to give my baits the recognition they deserve, something had to give. I've lost count the number of times my hookbaits have been used to great success by high profile anglers only to see the credit given to another company. So I've pulled the plug.
I am without doubt the very best at what I do, very few come anywhere near. If a larger company wants to utilise my skill and product range, I am certainly up for discussion but that is the only way my bait will be commercially available going forward. My hookbaits are used by many of the biggest companies/names in Carp Fishing but they are never acknowledged. For me this lying on an industrial scale has become intolerable, so we are where we are and the only way I can put a stop to it, is unfortunately by closing.
In essence the industry couldn't even offer me the steam of it's morning piss and I am now I'm offering the same until someone gets their cheque book out. I'm not being rude or trying to insult, just being frank.
Best regards Mitch"

Bit of a mixed statement there in my eyes, he sells out asap but wants the acknowledgement of his creations.
Well he's doing something right to get the sales, maybe that isn't enough for him.
Very good baits but there is plenty of other options out there

hi all.

I've not posted on here for a long time but having read Mitch's post I've got to agree with some of it.

When I was running UB Baits I had several high profile anglers using my baits and catching a lot of fish on them, a few weeks later you would see in print in a big, well known carp magazine "here's XXXXXXX with a 28lb common caught live in session for us on sticky baits pop ups" - because they were a sticky bait angler. I even talked this through on the phone with one of them at the time and he said "sorry mate i've no choice, I can't tell the truth or i'ld lose my deal".

That's modern carp fishing I am afraid. It is extremely frustrating for the person making the hookbaits - sometimes it's not about the money, it's just about a bit of integrity. And would it really hurt sticky baits, or any other bait company, for the write up to have read "and here's XXXX with a 28lb common caught on a UB Baits Ting tong corkball over a bad of Sticky Baits manilla" - not at all.

There's so little integrity left in carp fishing you honestly can't trust a word of what's printed now I am afraid.

Very true me Matt, hope you are well mate.

I think the only honest capture on a different hookbait to freebies from memory, was when Phil Harper caught the Snake pit common on a Rod hutchinson protein mix pop up, over a bed over Savay seed mix freebies.
Think there was a Hoo ha about that capture TBH.

Some People are so desperate that they will sell their soul to a brand for a deal Even if it ain't all that.

Not being nasty, and couldn't care less if he makes bait or not. Just don't moan about being successful as a reason to close a business. If it's genuinely about the morality of captures being misrepresented then that's his choice. Personally I'd carry on and laugh all the way to the bank.

The whole issue of people catching a fish on one bait and reporting it as another has been going on for years, and always will. The snake pit common was a good example mentioned earlier in this thread. I dread to think of how many fish have been caught on tiger nuts and then reported as X bait over the years...it used to happen on Yateley CP lake all the time for example.

The way I see it is this, bait rollers have two options. Either put up with it, keep supplying these people with bait and keep taking their money (as it is business after all) OR they can get precious about it any throw their toys out of the pram. 'Buu bbuutt it was caught on my bait, not what he reported...' Maybe I'm caring less and less as I mature but I couldnt give a rats backside what such and such fish was caught on nowadays

I recall a couple of years ago hearing how virtually every capture from Dinton was on a zig during the first half of the year....but it did t say that in the catch reports!

Mitch's baits absolutely outfished Marks baits by a significant margin for several of us that have used both, to the point where we binned the spec gear!

In truth, success is not selling shed loads of anything, but managing to produce, cost and time effectively, what you sell, lock your doors for 3 days a week and spend time with family, fishing, whatever. It's the time that didn't work out sadly for Mitch by the sound of it which in this country is not uncommon at all, many of us run our own little businesses and take far too little time out for living, something I've been drawn into for many years but stepped back 4 years ago and turned things around to a better balance, took until covid kicked in to get there mind..

Yes, I get the 'integrity' bit, but at the end of the day, it's business. He's able to sell out of product in a day.. What's the problem in that? In fact it's a scenario most businesses would dream of. He just needs to manage his website correctly, spend two weeks a month manufacturing, a week or so posting, and a week off with the family.
Or the alternative scenario is that he's run out of old Hutchy flavours and can't source them anymore, except at crazy ebay prices....

Can see a few hookbait makers in the U.K. and Europe shutting up shop, when selling their top sellers / the old skool classics become financially not viable to manufacture anymore.

I mean a glass bottle of Mulberry florentine went for £420.00 on the bay recently

And that's why the bait room closed... It wasnt about the money...the guy had plenty of that before he started making bait.. he got fed up with high profile sponsored anglers using his bait and then declaring it on social media that they caught it on the latest bait from mainline, nash or sticky.. Yes it happens all the time and will it go away no.. do i think £30 for a pot of hookbaits is pricey...yes but in a world where you can pay £500 for a sleep system, £1300 for a set of rods or £2k for a season ticket somewhere.. If paying £30 for a pot of hookbaits caught you more fish as a result and you were confident in that being the difference then why not..at the end of the day. if the carp wont open its mouth to eat it all the gear on the bank or the fact you've paid £2k for said season ticket is completely irrelevant..
And just for clarity they are in my opinion the best hookbaits I've used...just a good job i bought a load before the prices went through the roof

154 pots! Considering they are selling for between circa £40 and £130 per pot that is a very fine investment should your mate sell ..

In contrast I've been trying to re-home a pot of the Specialised Garlic corks for over a year now but no takers or even enquiries at half retail price, a bait that some rate highly too (not me though obvs). I guess that true value of any product is realised when it becomes unavailable from the suppliers.

He claims to be 'the very best at what I do ...'

Yep, he may have knocked out some good gear but nobody knows everything and nobody has all the answers, there is no magic formula that catches all fish. The fella was just making bait to make money.

I suspect any collaboration with a larger company would turn into a car crash sooner rather than later with the fella then slagging of whoever took a chance on him.

Sorry if your a fanboy but reading what he's written on the site does not paint a great picture. He may have been burnt a few too many times by said name anglers but then why keep on suppliying them and then throw all the toys out the pram and throw the towel in?.... I guess what he's written isn't the full story..... .

His reasons are all BS to me.

If he was making good money would he really be bothered about the recognition from the so called top anglers.

Recognition does not make one rich, profits do.

I kinda think the same as few others, no matter how good the bait is he is selling, if he is selling out in minutes then why does it matter if the “known” anglers are telling people they are using his bait? I would understand if he was struggling to sell but he is moaning about the amount of business he is getting now, it would just get worse for him.

He wouldn't make no more money or anything from it so I just don't Understand it all tbh think it's a bit of a cope out, I'm not disputing the quality of the bait just the reasons behind doing what he has done

What a bizarre read, I've never heard of him or the company, I suspect it isn't closing for the reasons that is given.

I've heard Jeff Bezos is closing down his multi billion dollar Amazon company because, whilst he's earning 10's of billions of dollars every year. He's not happy that people are saying they bought their stuff off eBay
