That they've now banned luncheon meat. Gutted considering I'd opened 10 tins and diced it all up.
Still, fortunately I'd taken along with me to eat a pack of cocktail sausages in which 1 piece made 3 hook baits and had a cracking day on the float.

Why???? I can understand some rules like death rigs and starting fires but luncheon meat? Some Committees are full of old farts who don't live in the real world. Unless it's privately run and you can only buy the brand of luncheon meat sold on Site!

Because luncheon meat of uneaten lays rotting on the bottom. It can cause serious problems with increased phosphates and nitrates if there's too much of it rotting down. Same as most baits. Banned because they think everyone is using it I guess. 10 tins per angler, 10 swims, that's a lot of luncheon meat.

Why don't they just ban any kind of fishing with bait and require you to scoop the fish out with the net. Or better still have the first angling club in the country that has banned any kind of fishing.

Was surprised to say the least upon reading it was banned but after googling why the reason could be I guess it's the correct thing to do. Pretty sure I read that a fishery was seeing usage of thousands of tins of the stuff.

Tazi, this isn't a dig at you...the inevitable...but....10 tins
were you there for a fortnight.
I see LM as a high fat hookbait with maybe a few free cubes to entice, just one look at the side of the tin tells you its not a good thing in large amounts, even from just a nutrition pov.

You will laugh when it tell you this. Years ago when meat was one of the main baits, Pek for me out fished all the other meats I tried, big cubes of it

I could have done but I find after freezing them then they soften up too much to stay on the hook. Suppose I could have used it as freebies elsewhere though.

It is very good stuff too and once when fishing I was using plumrose and he used the pek and yes he had the biggest fish on that.
The sausages I used funnily enough produced bigger carp than I'd had out previously when allowed to use luncheon meat.

Think I'll be staying on the sausages for now until they cotton on and ban those too.

Meat was a pretty instant bait in the right weather conditions. A while ago I thought i would try it again in the brilliant fox narrow armour mesh. Made up some meshed meat pellets which I have to say, looked brilliant. hair rigged them with a meat stop. 3 pike later I gave up with it, horrible things

Yep that could be it. At least 2.5 kilo going in with small tins, 5 kilos with larger tins up to 18kilos with catering tins. That's a lot of meat, as the actress said to the bishop. However with many sticking in 50 plus kilos of boilie and more in a session why worry.

Someone gave me a tin of beef luncheon meat rather than pork luncheon meat. Brilliant stuff but I only ever had the one tin and could never find anymore, I asked the bloke who gave it to me where he got it and all he could do was shrug his shoulders and say in his cupboard.

It's an interesting one meat. I only used to use big chunks as single hookbaits. I have match mates and I know they use it on the commercial pools with all types of methods. I know they banned meat on some, I think it was predominantly cat meat because on the bottom of the lake there was LOADs of rotting meat creating a layer

Last September saw a guy put in 80 kilos in a 72 hour session.(£740)Spoke to him, saw the bags, got the tee-shirt. Big mag, still in print, well known angler, first visit to New syndicate Lake, first job, decided to get 40 kilos out.
Do a bit of arithmetic based on vids and articles. Start with 20 or 30 med spomb, top up with ten after every fish, get some more out next day same and so on.
Lots of bait.

There is nothing wrong with big qty's of bait if you're catching/topping up after each kipper imo.
It's these guys that just pile it in regardless of whether there's any feeding fish in front of them that are the problem.

Certainly as you say piling it in with no carp eating is a recipe for waste and rotting food.
I've seen three anglers bait the same small swim in one afternoon /evening, then move on when no takers. You probably couldn't see the lake bed where they were baiting.
I'm convinced that a lot of lakes see more bait than is good for the lake or fish though. Even if the carp eat it they can only process so much and the rest is waste / pollution / not good for the fish.
I know carp will eat 5 times as much but 80 kg of quality food will give 40 off 10 kg carp good growth for 10 days if the food lasted that long.
I feed my koi much less than that per kg of fish and they are heathy and still growing slowly.

I use buckets that 5kg of basemix comes in so not particularly big and they hold just over 9kg of prepped particles, so a normal large bait bucket holds about 40-50% more than that

Don't forget the smaller fish will peck away at the bait as well and once it's softened water insects like snails will also start to eat the bait as well
Oops just read back and saw the post of 80kg of bait used in 72 hours. Once on Sandhurst, I ran out of bait, in 36hrs I got though over 25kg of particles, pellet and some boilie, ranout after 30hrs and never had a touch after that..... wonderful session that was, anyway if they are up for a nosh and you are feeding for a bite fair enough if it 😱
