Just wondering what you guys would prefer. A 30lb mirror or common ? I always wonted a 30lb common. I went years having a few close to 30lb. Then when I did catch one I had a 36lb. A 40lb would be nice. Fore some reason I like big commons. What about you guys.

Hi Ross,
Not bothered for me. Original strains of either Galician (which are referred to as Leneys in the UK I believe?) Or Rozemburk carp would do it for me. Leather , mirror or common immaterial as long as they are original strains.

Yep same as, but to be honest I'm happy with any size out of my syndicate, all old dark silty fish, nothing stocked for donkeys years.

If I ever land a 30lb carp and think "I would rather have a common/mirror/leather" I will know 2 things. Catching carp is too easy and it's time to pack in.

That's not strictly true, if your water has a load of 30s then theres a good chance you'll have one easy water or not.

Got to be a big common, but no wrong'uns or commercials. I'd rather a proper 20 than an engineered 30.

That's the point really, if a water has a load of thirties and there is a good chance I'll get one then it's too easy and devalues the achievement.

I must admit I do prefer dark commons to look at and in my experience they put up a more exciting fight.

A water I fish now has a good head of thirties,it is far from easy with depths of upto 55ft in places and if you fish the shallower areas the birdlife can be horrendous.Its also a big body of water,certainly not easy.For me a big dark mirror with big apple sliced scales or a nice dark linear

Common, as they tend to be less common. I know loads of places near me to catch 30lb mirrors, a lot less commons.

Personally a common as my pb common has been 29lb 14oz for 7 years. Never say no to a 30lb mirror though

I'm not too bothered either way...as I live in the NW a 30 is an achievement.....I don't fish waters with a lot of 30s in any ways my syndicate has a few but no been lucky enough to trick one up as yet....
I fish for myself and don't do self takes or any form of social media (apart from this forum)...as my photos are for myself.....if it's a nice fish a few mat shots and back it goes.....
I'd rather feel I've earned a fish and anything over 25 as a bit of an achievement ....but we all fish for different reasons and I have no problems with anyone least doing whatever they want as long as it doesn't affect my fishing.....

Here in our part of the US, commons are....common.

There's easy waters and hard waters, my water is tricky but when you catch it won't be under low twenty and more than likely a thirty.
The trick is catching the forties, theres only about a dozen of them, there's a 100 ish thirties. The real target though is the handful of fifties.
You can only catch what's in there, one mans thirty is another's twenty.

Prefer dark old scaley mirrors over commons, but all depends what fish i've set my mind on.
Targetted a 60+ common 10 years ago and it took me 3 years to catch it.
Now i'm after a mid 50 mirror for nearly 2 years already.
Living in Belgium there's big fish all over the country.
Again, i prefer mirrors, but i won't shake a stunning looking or big common off the hook either.

Sounds like quite the water that. Don't know what it's got to do with the commons/mirrors debate though.
I'd personally have a mirror every single day of the week. Mainly due to their individuality in comparison to commons. A common has to really stand out to be special for me.

Either would be great, but pushed I would say mirror. 40lb common now that might change a few things 🤔
Both, Common first then the Mirror moments later.
I'd rather catch chlamydia than some of the **** pigs I've seen in the 30-50lb bracket. Got packs of shrink tube older than some of them.

Yeah it is about being out there, my first 30 was a
common and it was great. I've since had a 30lb Linear and Mirrors all nice so no preference.

Never had a 20. Came close once what looked like a 20 but unfortunately I couldn't squeeze the 2 ounces needed from somewhere,
Edit - just about to once scoop what looked a 25lb plus only for it to come off. Was gutted I didn't even so much as had a micro barbed hook on especially on a water where barbed were allowed. Gutting.

Defo a mirror. The lake I'm on at the mo, when the alarm goes 90% chance it will be a 30lb plus common. 😎
