Bored on lockdown and decided to list the gear I have and it's quite frightening to think how much this all come to when added up. Here is my list which probably isn't complete!

Lol seriously im much the same i found your list put me at ease with my pile of gear, its very similar, stuffi convinced myself i needed then used once or so.... Cool boxes, like i get time to organise a coolbox full of food to take on a 3 day trip i never manage

Not seen any of those for quite a few years

Cut my stock down a lot over recent years.

Was upto 7 shelters at one point.

Down to just 2 now and one of them is up for sale.

Exactly , i remember a thread on northern monkeys years ago about who owned which rods etc 3 of them had them all robbed soon after.

I had multiples of a lot of things at one time. Over the last year or so, thinned it right down to one set, rods, reels, buzzers, bags etc. The only multiples I have are light shelter for the summer, and winter and summer sleeping bags.

Doesn't seem that sensible to have a list of thousands of pounds of tackle next to a profile photo of your face and what county you live in.

I made some lists for the home/fire insurance. Would not post them....

Has anyone ever had to make an insurance claim and if so did they want to see pictures or anything? I am now slowly sorting out the collection of bits and pieces but a lot has been brought 2nd hand or years ago so def no reciepts so wondering what the approach from an insurance company would be if the worst was to happen and it either gets pinched or garage was to burn down, do they take your word for it or would pictures be a better option

Luckily not been in that boat. Taking photos along with an inventory won't do you any harm and if nothing else, make your claim a lot smoother.

As I said to a friend the other day 75% of carpfishing gear is camping gear.

I have a problem with rods and alarms...
Oh and bedchairs. Got 5 of them.

I've owned lots of rods, reels, alarms over the years. I'm not one for holding onto stuff for to long. I do and don't regret selling things. I find I get a little overwhelmed with having to much gear and usually have a purge and get rid of everything.

Once you've moved houses a few time's you realize you have way to much fishing gear.

I would strongly recommend that you photograph and list all the tackle you have, along with rrp prices and then forward a copy to your insurer to make sure they are aware and happy to cover.

I don't think it's wise to list your gear on a forum.

Had my gear stolen about 15 years ago my local tackle shop was more than happy to write a list with prices of which the insurance company wrote the cheque out to the shop and they replaced like for like.Insured it now with the receipts they gave me

I have heard stories of some shops charging full retail for doing it though so would definitely be a win win for them fortunately I didn't have to.

No they dont.

They want a full list if items, backed up with the current retail prices. They dont work with one tackle company because they know there are deals to be had. Companies that work with one tackle shop or group are making more out of your loss than you are.

They also want receipts and pictures of what was stolen. Indisputable proof of ownership of 60% of items claimed will mean a full payout up to the value of items covered.

It's a falsify about people making claims to get cash, the chavs and low lifes in society who would try it never had the money for the policy in the first place.

No they dont.

So are you saying insurance companies will just pay out cash?
Perhaps I didn't go into enough detail but after lockdown an insurance company rep will be visiting me to discuss a jewellery claim after a burglary. I'd much prefer cash but understand why the rep will be negotiating in vouchers.
If everyone was honest it wouldn't be necessary but I can understand why they want to do things this way.

Paid me in cash, bank transfer £5k.

That's why you need to read the small print before you purchase the policy.

The most important part is about detached garages.

A small part of my job is working with companies who repair or replace damaged windows and doors through breaking and entry.

Far too much gear, but never enough

I've got a heap of gear to sell soon but waiting for fisheries to reopen before trying to sell it

I'm assuming it will sell better when the fisheries reopen ??

It all depends on your policy and loss adjuster....one of my close friends is a loss adjuster for the largest insurance company in the uk....

He said you don't need pics or receipts for everything as they take into account probability I.e if you had a 20 yr old rod then wouldn't expect you to have a receipt.....but they would expect them for more recent purchases.... But pics do help.....

Also if you have to top end gear but only receipts for low costs items then they would maybe request further proof if you were claiming for all top end gear..... He said the best thing to check is new for old, as you will have depreciation involved in the claim...you would get next to nothing for gear a few years old...

A loss adjuster ( well my mate) will always try to cash settle as its cheaper in the long run as they will try to offer you slightly less than what it would cost to replace....they haven't got the hassle of sorting it out..and paying wages to do so.... He said they would prefer a cash settle to any claim whatsoever.......

He has advised my when I buy anything take a quick photo of the recipt, a few photos of the item and store in the I cloud or equivent....then you have them forever...hopefully you will never need them but there available easily if you do....

Depreciation? Hmmmm. Not sure about that. Fishing tackle isn't like a car. If you had a set of top end rods eg free spirit/harrisons that cost about £750 quid 10 years ago, to replace like for like would probably cost a grand now. Nor could you replace a top end 3 grand bait boat for a grand depreciation adjusted.

Maybe better to have a new for old insurance policy for tackle?

I agree but they sometimes have things like 10% reduction in cost for every year old the item is...

So if you had 1000 rods which were 5 years old they'd only pay out 500

That's why he recommended new for old....
