Not sure what the trakker one is like but I'm sure there's a replica for a bit cheaper. If you are going to use it a lot have a look at the weber smokey joe. They are just a compact version of the normal ones so most likely to be a decent bit of kit.
The Nash BBQ is superb sadly people didn't warm to it. Mines several years old and although it's still does the jobs I've been looking around for a replacement. Nothing as yet comes close for compactness not that it helps you.
to me a BBQ is shyte UNLESS its got a lid
I learnt this after watching a tv program about BBQ in Australia when the guy could not believe people used them without a lid ?
what he demonstrated made a lot of sense
so I tried cooking some expensive quality burgers 2 without using the lid then the next two with the lid closed both me and my pal agreed the burgers cooked with the lid shut were a 100 times better tender juicy and properly cooked not dried outsides just ruddy marvellous since then I proved it to so many people

Hit the nail on the head mate. I do a fair bit of bbq and smoking and a good quality lid is vital! (Hence why I suggested the smokey joe.

Cadac Safari Chef. Uses gas and you can also use it to boil a kettle etc. Folds down nicely as well.

I would go for a Cobb. You can do pretty much anything with it.

Never used it for fishing but for when I go away with the family I use a Gas Webber Q BBQ. It runs of the same C500 cannisters a normal stove works off and packs down quite small. It cost us around £250 but we have had it years and still going strong. The 2 side tables fold in for transport but it still has a cast plate which fits around 8 burgers at a time. Other great thing is you can close the lid and it cooks using a combination of BBQ and Oven for faster times.

A mate has one it's bulky but he leaves it in his Van.
You can cook a heap load on it, easily using 5kg of CharCoal.

My friend gave me a folding one years ago from Homebase it opens up to about 12” square and folds flat to about 30mm great little bbq that's good enough for me.
I also line it with tin foil as it makes it so much easier in the morning to just lift the foil out with no mess 👍

As the saying goes, “if you are looking, you are not cooking” always rings true when BBQ'ing. Don't see point in a gas GRILL (BBQ has to use wood or charcoal to be called a BBQ) as may as well just use your normal gas stove & a frying pan!
The Cobb Premier is fantastic & as someone that does a lot of BBQ - both Low & Slow as well as Direct Heat Grilling - at home & on the bank, the Cobb is by far the most economical BBQ I have used with regards to how long the charcoal lasts. Can cook a whole roast on 5 standard charcoal briquettes.
I have also found that the better quality briquettes you use, the better results all round. I use McBrikett Koko Egg briquettes that a very good friend of mine who travels around Europe & occasionally the States for some of the bigger events, for competitive KCBS BBQ competitions (whole Briskets, pork shoulders, Ribs & Chicken pieces) recommended to me. A 12” x 12” zip loc bag of these briquettes lasts me 72 hours on the bank with just a few “shredded wheat” type natural firefighters in a small tub to get things started.

The Cobbs look good, but quite a lot of messing about for a bit of grub while fishing.

A lot of people say a BBQ has to be charcoal and not gas but it turns out thats a load of old cobblers !!
what they did was get a panel of food critics they blind tasted a variety of meats cooked on a gas BBQ and traditional charcoal
the results they could not tell which was which ! its the juices of whatever meat your cooking drops on the heat source your cooking and the smoking imparts that BBQ flavour
as both gas and Charcoal is odourless so basically its all in the mind and an old wives tail mate
I sold my Cobb Premier and bought the Air best fuel I have used is without question this >>LINKY POO
tried Webber briquettes, Cobblestones ,heatbeads and the very best as in the link
and the great thing is when you finished cooking lift out any unburnt tubes drop em in water and when you dried them you can use em again

found this helpful info on the net
Briquette Tubes normally appear under the description Restaurant Quality Tandoori Briquettes. They are extruded, pushed through dies in the same way that pasta is made. They come as long tubes that you can cut to suitable size so that they can be stood upright in the Cobb Firebasket like their own mini chimneys. Two main brands: Ouse Valley from Amazon, and Big K from Hotsmoked. Both come as “10kg Box”, which is the shipping weight, i.e. you will get about 9.2kg of briquettes. It's a significant outlay, but you don't need much:
3cm burns about 3 hours, and 5cm about 5 hours.

Just been looking on the cobb website, they do a compact version.Unfortunately it says back in stock January 2030 I don't mind a bit of a wait but that's just a bit too long
In reply to Post #30
the advantage or dis-advantage ? depending on how you look at it
being smaller with the compact the grid is closer to the coals so it will get hotter and burn quicker ?

I have a cadac safari which is relatively small and runs on small gas cannisters which I normally use for french trips, overnighers at home I use a stanless steel Yellowstone fold up BBQ. it is relativley lightweight and comes in a small bag which stows away on the barrow taking up no space at all

Don't get me wrong I'm as big a Pyromaniac as the next guy and love a proper BBQ, however I have had times where the charcoal has been unavailable so it's nice to have options, having seen what you can cook on the Cadac as well it's a no brainer, it's very versatile LINK

Yes I have both Cadac versions also
and I agree they are brilliant and it was you that told me if you buy the HP version you can then buy an adaptor to convert it to LP and then able to run it on a bottle either propane or Butane depending on what regulator you choose to use I have cooked a chicken and spuds on a LP Cadac and done the same on a Cobb both do the job well
but there is something using about a Cobb must be the cowboy in me ?
or some will say the **** in me
if you go on Facebook ? look at I LOVE MY COBB , Cobb BBQ UK and Bank Side Chefs

Yep webber go anywhere for me too - spent ages tossing up between a cobb and this webber - theres pros/cons for each but for me the webber was just better all round, and more suited to the majority of what I cook on it. You can do anything on either of them to be fair - both can BBQ with direct heat - but the webber is just better on this front. Both can roast, but the Cobb just beats the webber for roasting. The webber is better for slow-low/smoking (which is my preferred cook)
If you google for it there are loads of video's for setting up a really neat compact setup with the webber, and you can get everthing including tools, and enough for two cooks of coals inside it, complete with the chimney. I got the bag too - more to protect the car I guess but its worth getting IMHO.
Key thing is to cut the top grill in 1/2 as soon as you get it - goes against the grain taking a saw to somthing brand new but trust me its worth it for having such a compact setup, and doesnt imapct it at all - infact it makes it easier for slow-low cooks as you can top-up the charcoal or briquettes on one side and leave the meat on the half of the grill that you leave in place.
Ours goes with us to the beach too.
And if its allowed on your water it doubles up as a neat little fire-pit to sit next to as the sun goes down with your choice of poison

UPDATE: I emailed Cadac about the HP to LP adapter and apparently it's only available for the EU market
Thank you for your query, with the Safari Chef 2 HP you can only use this with the threaded cartridges as this can not be converted to LP. Only the LP model can convert from LP to HP with the correct hose adapter. The HP adapter is only available in Europe as this has not been adapted for the UK market yet. Hope this helps.
