It seems I need to give up some space in my bait freezer for some food reserves, how do you stop the bait smells tainting food?

Put the bait in a cardboard box. Wrap the box in a bin liner.

I often store food in my bait freezer especially around Xmas time, never an issue, frozen bait doesn't really smell that much anyway.

And shops aren't closing or running out unless everyone panic buys and hoards like squirrels in hibernation 🤔

Same here, just told my wife I need to go fishing for a month to free up some freezer space

Carp are not attracted to smelly freezers

I dunno, I remember having some vanilla ice cream with tutti fruity, caviar and cranberry undertones in the past, that was the reason I got a bait freezer

We don't really keep much food in the freezer, preferring fresh food generally, but it would seem pretty foolish not to have at least a few days worth in the house.

There's a few cases at my sons school so its already close to home

A couple of times I've thought of putting Mrs in freezer but would only manage to squeeze a couple of kilos in bait, would the boilies spoil?

And for the police minded tell them to save their time getting a warrant I will allow free access 😀

This is a joke for those of a more serious mindset at this time 😀

I have this problem as well. Just had a delivery of trents baits freshwater shrimp and my god it stinks, I have now taken all of the food out of my chest freezer it smells that bad lol

I have a pal that filled his mums freezer with the shrimp. All her food took on the stench too. She wasn't happy lol.

I have a "scent from hell" freezer 🙁 , game over .

Looking at getting a freezer in the shed for boilies and particles.

I like to have a few different smelling baits to choose from, depending on water.

I don't want to mix smells though.

Are freezers with shelves better for segregating bait, or just get some heavy duty grip bags and go with a chest freezer?

Mixing smells in your freezer wont affect the bait at all. In any case, bag them up, use some freezer bag clips or grip lock bags and you'll be fine.

I live in a flat and don't have the luxury of a separate bait freezer.

Currently my fridge freezer has 2 draws of Hydra K and two drawers of food.

The bait is all bagged in individual 1kg zip lock freezer bags and the two bait drawers are lined with cardboard.

Never had any problems with smells / cross contamination ever.

Smells will leak, it's as simple as that. The better wrapped they are the less they will leak, but leak they will.
I'm on a mission to reclaim my bait freezer. Our home freezer broke and we started using my bait freezer..erm..several years ago I went out for the 1st time in years 2 weeks ago and had to get to my bait
So far I've enjoyed a lovely Lidl Ginger and something sorbet....with hints of shrimp and peach and some chesnut stuffing with hints of banoffee.

Recently purchased and used this for my own rolled boilies to save space in the freezer and to allow hydro's to absorb better.

Came with 50 bags and it's done the job for £8.99 😁👍

A vacuum sealer is one of my best value "adopting middle age" purchases.

Use it for dozens of things beside fishing bait.

I've never had a problem, I just keep boilies, squid, lugworm, dead baits etc in the normal freezer and never had a problem.

Our lass sometimes complains though as there is not much space left in it to put any more food in it sometimes.

Yeah smells have never been an issue for me but space is often a problem and this has just given me a whole draw in the freezer back. I was able to move several kilo of bait over two drawers into one 👍

I got some squid and blueys and mackerel baits in the freezer compartment with a packet of wagon wheels ready to go for the weekend lol
