My mate has got back into carp fishing and one of the things he needs is a
new 42" landing net and handle.
Any recommendations for a good budget/mid range net??
We are off to the big one show Saturday so should be able to check out
any recommendations.

Prologic nets are decent.

Sonik herox landing net are decent for the money around £50 your probably get it for £40 at the show

+1 for the prologic.
I bought the c series 2 piece cheap when getting back into carp fishing again a few years back. I see no reason to change it anytime soon as it's great.
In fact I have a few prologic items & I think they're very good for the money.

Same for me - Sonik or JRC, I've got both in no frills versions.
I won't buy expensive landing nets any more, a seem to break or leave them at the lake all the time.
I occasionally get a tarty pull when you see some of the sweet Solar spreader blocks but then common sense prevails

Could look at the korda kaizen green net. Similar to the more pricey one. Avid have bought out a similar net too.
End of the day I don't see any need to buy and expensive net, £100 is spenny imo for something a £50 product will do. A net is a net is a net.

My brother had a prologic net, I was impressed by the quality for the relatively cheap price.

I am of a slightly different opinion in that I think paying a bit more will get you something that will last for a very long time & save you money in the long run.
I have a original Nash Pursuit that I bought off Fivenil nearly 15 years ago & it's still going strong. I bought a Trakker EQ as a spare a few years ago (a rip off of the matrix bulldog) & that's pretty much the same as the day I first used it.
my main advice is whatever you do, make sure the spreader block is made of metal as plastic will break & ensure the arms can be detached from the block as it is a PITA when they can't - especially taking a fish out of the water.

I bought a £30 Sonik net a few years back and it done the job. Well worth the money.
I do have expensive nets as well, but only due to having a 'spend itch' and buying a net to match a set of rods.
To add weight to Jamie's point about more expensive might/should last longer...
My Fox Spring-Lok is still going strong from many many years ago. Back then £120 was about expensive as net's went and I did wonder whether or not I had done the right thing, but it's done me 30+years and had 1 or 2 fish get to meet it!
I did have to replace the mesh about 10 years ago...but that was my fault for leaving it on the ground and mice munching it.
Whilst not essential, it might be worth bearing in mind that you might want the option of extending the handle for higher banks. I got the extension for my Century net and tend to use it whatever the bank height...having that extra reach can sometimes be handy

I don't know if it is over budget but we sell bundles of the kaizen green nets in the shop and every single customer has raved about them. Super easy to assemble and very light and rigid for their price point.

Go-Outdoors sell decent 36” and 42” nets very cheap.
I needed a new mesh a while back and bought the net/frame/spreader with a view to binning the frame and spreader. I decided to try the net as is, and it's great. The 36” version is now my number one net. Decent deep mesh and a metal spreader block. My fishing mate spotted it on the bank last week and immediately went and bought one.
I use a 20 year old Gardner extending handle with it.
