I have a good mate thats asked me about good budget carp rods he is not a fan of anything heavy test curves 2.75 may go to 3lb if its got a good action and 10 ft rods
Now hands up I used 9 to 10ft rods in the 60s and now dont fish with anything less than 12`
so 2 things never bought a budget rod and never bought a 10` rod recently either not a fan Im afraid
so folks I never give advice on gear I havent owned or used

People rate the Sonik rods Gerry. Not exactly my cup of tea in the way they're built up, but they are popular. The only Sonik rod I have is an old spod rod which I got cheap at one of the shows with a Mitchell reel & some braid. As with all spod rods, they take a battering but it's still going strong.
In terms of 10ft rods, I got a set of 3 Daiwa Black Widow G50's a couple of years back in the TFT boxing day sale for £76. And they've been spot on. Cork handles also, really good vfm.
Depends what your mate considers as a budget rod, to some £30-£50 a rod is a budget rod, but to others it's £100 a rod.

Sonik Vader x rs, for 10 ft budget Nash Dwarf 3.00 lb (+2022 models) they are a joy play fish on and you can easily hit 90 yards with them
The new Daiwa Vertice rods are worth a look. Very good quality for the price. The Carpology lads did a video a while back blind testing rods under £100 and they came out on top.

I tell you what Gerry, I was in Go Outdoors recently where they have a Fishing Republic section and I spent hours in there. What I was really impressed by was the Rod Hutchinson Sceptre 10ft 2.5lb-3.5lb rods they had for £79.99 each. I already have two sets of 10ft rods but If I didn't I would have been walking out with a few of those. I would suggest your mate takes a look at some of those before taking the plunge.

Hi Gerry. It depends on what he means by budget but the Sonik Dominator RS rods are down to c.£65 a rod (I assume Sonik have a tweaked version on the way as most places have them discounted). I have a set of 10ft 3lb tc rods that I use for small waters in the UK and they are great fun to use and play fish on. Took them to France as a 2nd set of rods for my son and we had fish to mid 40s on them and they were more than up to the task so happy to recommend them

Maybe not the answer you are looking for but - budget I would go 2nd hand all day long. A £50 rod is probably £15 worth, and sells 2nd hand for £30 but a £100 rod sells 2nd hand for maybe £50 - so you get a better set of rods for the same money.
I often see 3 rods for £150 that I think, I'm tempted, by the price not because I need them!

Personally after experience, I would avoid Sonik.
I've had Sonik rods, and within a few weeks the liner on the butt ring popped out while it was setup, so the rod was replaced under guarantee. A couple of weeks later on the replacement the butt ring liner popped out.

I'm a century user and have been for 30 year's plus , but around 4 year's ago I joined a little lake a stone's throw from my house, I do mostly mornings on it my short session water lets say , My 12ft rods with big pits were just too big I'm only casting 8 wraps most of the time so I bought some Avid Exodus 10ft 3lb tc coupled these with some 4000br shimanos, I can't rate them high enough obviously I haven't tried the other rods recommend and I won't say there as good as my Centrys but I paid around £100 for 3 I honesty can't fault them

I've been using 10' Freespirit CTX for p*ssing about on day tickets (coupled with SS2600s) and am starting to love using them - they're 3.25 so can cast a bag / handle heavier leads; try and pick up a set 2nd hand for best pricing . . . the 10' SPM is an awesome little utility rod and perfect for small spombs / spopper work on the river - failing that the new 10' Helicals look just as good and they do a 3lb TC variant

Dont think you can go wrong with any of the free spirit range in 10 ft. Lots to choose from as well. There were some good deals on the e class golds not long ago and they are a cracking blank.
Daiwa Powemesh worth a look. I had the 9ft 2.75lb, nice little rods. They do a 10ft 2.75 version

You were unlucky mate. I've had multiple sets of Sonik Prada over the years from the Dominators up to their top of the range Gravity rods and I have never had any issues at all. If I'd had your experience I would also avoid personally, but I can say that your experience is probably an exception rather than the norm
