My local area is the Norfolk Broads, sadly the MP for area also voted to allow the dumping of raw sewerage.
Our local conservative MP couldn't care less, he doesn't exactly represent the local people. As long as he gets to keep claiming for his expenses, including gas and electric he doesn't seem bothered. If you asked local people if they wanted sewerage dumped into the rivers you would get a resounding no.

Problem is a big chunk of the residents in my area are older, retired, well off and life long conservatives, lots of farmers too. Its traditionally a conservative safe seat, sadly.
I like to think I'm becoming a thorn in my MP's side as I enjoy pulling him up on his parliamentary votes and asking why he voted to not feed starving kids, or voted not to tax energy companies on profits, or voted not to give nurses a raise but did give himself a nice pay boost.

If you look at their voting record, all conservatives vote the same. The whipping system ensures they do so. Also if they want a cabinet post they have to toe the line. Unless the young get off their backsides and vote elsewhere, it's never going to change. Viva la revolution. Don't forget to duck when the bullets start flying.

There is one shocking think about all of this for me. God knows how many years I've bought a fishing license for but the EA have been promoting cleaning the rivers systems up for as long as I can remember!
So now, we can just put virtually anything down them, I wonder how they made the judgement, research papers or back patting ffs. The wold is full of idiots and in a few years time, as usual somebody will say, hey, this is damaging the environment, when the damage has been done ffs

Voting can change things - it's just that a lot of the population are stupid and easily led by right wing newspapers that tell them what to believe, and that somehow immigration is more important than sewage, gas bills and people literally going to work for next to nothing because the money always funnels upwards.
Ironically, these same people call others ‘sheep'.

The big problem is that the water companies are privately owned, with many MP's on boards or shareholders so getting their lovely dividends.
These companies should NEVER, like gas and electricity, be in private ownership, they should be nationalised.
The EA is a loser as well, they are not particularly strong in terms of what they can or can't do, and government or councils frequently override them. They are also trying to either do too much or too little. Cover the environment totally and completely, or have a particular brief to cover specifically rivers (as an example).
The watchdogs, need to be bringing cases up against these water companies. Pollution is unacceptable unless it makes money...
