The last few weeks, down my local lake whilst doing my weekly overnighter, just after dark the carp have starting jumping and showing over a particular area of the lake, it around 20ft deep in this area, around the middle of the lake.
I had the deeper out over the area as well as a lead, and it just seems like a soft smooth bottom, maybe silty.( lead plugs a little then pulls back smoothly.
I've cast single bottom baits/pop ups/solid bags as them whilst there showing, and even before , so the rigs ready, should they turn up but can't seem to get a take, not even had a liner.
Not sure if there earing bloodworm or something or just not feeding,
Thought about trying a zig, but haven't yet.
Anything have any thoughts or ideas on this?.

I'd say they were smashing some kind of hatch would be my initial thoughts. I bet you'd get a take on a zig. Try putting.a few rods on that spot and change the lengths until the rods start rattling off. Try one deep and the other one shallow and work from that.

Plenty warm enough for hatches so probably is

One place I fish is over 20ft deep everywhere, we noticed an Argulus infestation,and the fish were seen jumping, and rubbing themselves to rid themselves of this parasite.

I was watching the birds this week over a lovely clear spot on my syndicate, the coots were picking and gulls were zooming and catching what I think was an insect hatch. The water surface was 'pri cking' as tiny items hit the surface, no bubbling so the fish weren't on the lakebed feeding.

IMO if the fish are crashing out and splashing, it's probably parasites, usually argulus. Surface and sub surface swirls could well be feeding. It would be typical for a fish to crash out then dive and rub it's flank along the bottom. Watch out for a line of bubbles if it's silty.

I'd say that is not at all unusual for this time of year mate. I'd be straight on the adjustables as I've wasted hours on the deck in days gone by watching this.

They have been doing it the last couple of weeks, same spot each week for a couple of hours after dark. Going to get a zig kit from tackle shop now, may as well give it a go..... I've tried most other things.

I'm glad O.P started this thread as I was going to mention similar. Possibly this is carp on a hatch, maybe not. With all of that aside, maybe I'm totally off base here, whenever a full moon is waxing or waining, the more times I'm seeing fish crash out one after another leading me to think that given hatches do happen when the moon is full, it's just a waste of time fishing on the bottom.
I don't fish with zigs all that much, I'm much more inclined be it the moon nearing its zenith, or just fish looking like they're on a hatch (turns diving is the big give away) I'll use zigs instead from now on.

Monday night is my next session, so will see how it pans out, never used a zig before... just been and got the korda one, and the fox zig aligner kit.
