Have you ever fished Grenville?

It was put to me that using a 4oz lead, as an example would crack off a 0.37mm line easily.
That's interesting and makes sense to me
Once you learn to cast it is quite easy to crack off, even with 3oz and 15lb straight through pending rod type

Perhaps you would be best off contacting the fishery manager Paul via the Grenville's Facebook page or website he will enlighten you as to why the 3oz lead rule is in place. As a long standing member I have seen a number of rule changes take place over the years some I agree with some I don't but I adhere to them because rules are rules. When I first fished there approximately 2010 the fish were smaller and there were less anglers on the lake Paul supplemented the bait going in with maize and coarse pellets spreading it about 30 yards out never there middle.
Whichever way you sugar coat it you think current members and those on a healthy waiting list are mugs! Whether your mates weren't offended is irrelevant you classed us all as mugs which I take offence too.
As I said before jog on and play with your mates elsewhere 🤬

Yeah, I appreciate what you're saying. You can crack off 0.37mm even with a 3oz lead. I won't deny that.
But...the point I've made earlier is, if you're using a line as thick as 0.37mm and you crack off, then 99.99% it's down to angling error.
Causes are: line twist, line damage, not opening bail arm, bail arm closing on cast, wrapped around back of spool, hitting line clip, wrapping around tip eye. Basically, angling. It's not the 4oz lead that's causing the crack off, as that weight is well within the rating and tolerance of a 0.37mm line.

If you are getting all wound up about that comment, then you seriously need to get over yourself.
If you're happy with fishing at Grenville, that's fine with me, I've got absolutely no problem with that. You go fishing to please yourself, not me.
But, as I've stated, the angling could be made a lot easier without an over excessive rule, like limiting to a 3oz lead, but then contradicts that rule by allowing pva bags of almost 6oz in weight, which is way beyond the tolerance of 0.37mm line.
But, seriously get over yourself. I know for a fact that there are members currently fishing there, who are NOT happy about the 3oz rule.

I didn't start on you and make personal attacks on you, and then get my buddies to back me up, now did I? 😏

Yes you called me a prat
And just for the record I do not know any of the other guys who posted so how are they my buddies
Perhaps they are just like minded and think you are over opinionated and unwilling to listen to other peoples points of view and evidence.
I reckon you could start an argument with yourself
Anyways I thought you'd gone and weren't coming back

And what opposing view is that? Taking things out of context and then throwing insults. So, rightfully I called you a prat.
And I'll do it again. No problem.

Not going to argue about Harefield, and the line elasticity, but I think there was another water as well that he was using big round leads and at shorter ranges.
I recall the story of a big common, caught by one of the group on that method.
Line elasticity (or lack of) is something many people forget, it is why 30/40/50 braid can easily be broken when it reaches maximum stress point with a spod or Spomb, like hitting a clip too hard. No stretch and reaching that point will cause even braid to give way.
Coming back to Harefield, Paul Gummers story in The Carp Strikes Back, bass rods with massive leaders down to 'normal' mainline. Worthy of a beer or three😉😆

Not splitting hairs mate but any decent caster could crack off on 0.37mm and 3oz quite easily, when you start reaching 130yds it's shockleader range for me rod dependant of course. I bet the majority could crack off on 4oz and 0.37mm if they can cast a bit and they are going for max range
Balanced tackle is the key for range otherwise it's shockleaders for me

I totally get what you're saying, mate. 130yds is a helluva chuck. But, 0.37mm should cope with that no problem. Once you get beyond 160-180yards, then there maybe a cause for concern. But, a 3oz couldn't get that far anyway. Even a tournament caster would struggle at that range with a 3oz lead. A 4oz lead is definitely needed.
I shared a link earlier, which shows what the tolerance is 0.35mm and 120gms was the maximum load, but achievable. It also showed 120gms is well within the tolerance of 0.37mm, and 120gms is just a little bit heavier than 4oz

You really are clueless I'm afraid, Danny moeskops cast a 75g lead just shy of 260 yards. Go to a tournament court and speak to some of the casters, take a reel loaded with 0.37 xt and a few 4oz leads and watch them snap the line without much effort.
