I have to agree with you on this, wearing a garment puts stress on the material at certain points. More so if you are carrying a rucksack. The pressure on the water at that time will be significantly higher than on a bivvy in the rain. Breathability is important if you are actually sitting out in the rain when match fishing for example . HH stuff is primarily designed for that.

I've been looking at a new jacket for the colder weather, I've currently got a Sleeka Elite but find it a bit short in the Arms and it's obviously not waterproof.
Been looking at the Snugpak Torrent, Fortis Tundra or potentially going for a Patagonia of some sort, I really like their gear, maybe the Isthmus Parka.
Essentially I'm after a jacket I can sit around under the brolly in so warm but also an element of waterproof too so I can walk to my swim in it or get set up, potentially play a fish etc
I've got the Snugpak Salopettes to pair with this jacket and would most of the time be wearing long sleeved t-shirt and my trusty Aran Jumper.

If you dont want to splurge on a Rab Valiance (seriously do recommend this jacket) the specs on this one are quite good - decent for the £ Waterproof Thermal

I've had the torrent extreme for around 2 year's now and love it, very warm and waterproof, probably too warm for being active in,has underarm vent zips if it does get a bit too warm,but for static fishing situation its ideal for me, not too long so not sitting on it in the chair so to speak
One tiny gripe is its tight if you try to zip up right to the top around your chin but it's so warm anyway that's not really required.

Standard Torrent would do the job mate.
The Tundra stuff is great too (especially the salopettes) but not worth an extra 100 quid over the Torrent imo.

Thanks for the replies, obviously this isn't designed for fishing so a bit concerned about the length of the body at the back when sitting or bending down and also the length of the arms when casting etc.
How do they fit in this respect?

My torrent is great. It's got a slightly extended back, coupled with salopettes you won't get a back draft. I'd say size up due to other layers as the padding is ample.

I've got the torrent and as said back of it extends a bit further than the sides and front.
It is warm, can't wear it to walk the dog!

I've always gone for standard Snugpak rather than the Fortis/Snugpak alternatives and never had an issue sitting/bending down or casting.

I have the Torrent, sizes are pretty true to size, apart from the zip being a bit fiddly ( might be just my jacket as a design fault ) I can't fault the jacket really. For it's size and thickness it's extremely warm, use it mostly for winter lure fishing from a punt or autumn / early spring cold nights carp fishing ( don't carp fish over winter) but it would be too hot for wandering the banks I think unless it was in minus temperatures

Looks like it might be me from the posts I bought the torrent used it fishing yesterday and to be honest I didn't feel it was that warm
They say in reviews that it is as warm as the sj6 some say it's warmer as said must be me

I've had a torrent for a few years now and don't find it that warm either. Its a good coat if you're mobile but I think I run a bit colder than most. I tend to use it if the weather is cold and wet and I want to stay mobile and will be moving swims. And yep, the zip is fiddly, much like the zips on the techlite sleeping bag. Doesn't feel that robust but hasn't failed yet.
If fishing fairly static I stick to my snugpak sleeka softie and sleeka salopettes with goretex waterproofs over the top. Never been cold or got wet using that combination. I also have a pair of the fortis / snugpak tundra salopettes... warm but totally crap when it comes to being waterproof... These have been consigned to the back of the wardrobe.

But I was looking into buying the Fortis Tundra salopettes but now I read your story, I won't haha. I also have the Fortis Marine Jacket but I now also worry that won't be so waterproof as I thought, as that used the same fabric as the Tundra, I think.

Snugpak don't make the Fortis Tundra salopettes.
I actually use the Tundra (salopettes) now and find they're as warm as the Snugpak jobbies. The waterproofing might not be world class but it's miles better than the Snuggys' which have nothing.
