BAF is the best I've used. My current 14mm pops are holding up a size 4 chod rig for over 48hrs.

Years ago I and many others used to make out pop-ups from decent milk protein powders, casein, Lactalbumin, calcium caseinate, whole egg powder so they were far from inert and I was able to get Minamino, CSL etc in them no problems along with flavours & colours, quick blast in the microwave.
The above probably wasn't cost / time effective for the companies hence the microspheres and other stuff, we kind of stood still in regards pop-ups / hookbaits for many years.

Agreed.
It could be fine tuning amounts of sodium caseinate (1987/8) and/or sieving the base mix to remove lumps and larger ingredients (Enervite) to roll around corkballs.
Another trick I used was using just egg white, taking the yolk out when mixing sieved base mix for pop-ups.

The richworth fishmeal pop up mix was excellent. It had a real shrimpy smell to it too.
Id like to add maybe 10% basemix and 5% pdfm to make them a bit more "foody" but it wasnt really necessary.
Mega bouyancy wasnt really the goal, just trying to make a pop up version of the freebies, but without the hassle of cork balling.

Similar to me, match my feed baits and a doodle to roll plus the life span popped up was fine for the job

pretty sure they do, k20, not massively buoyant, you can see k20's if they're in a mix, you can see them in the wafter and pop ups on the shilham page, could be k15

This is what it says on their website. I took this to mean no 3M but I guess they could technically mean anything by glass beads
We at Shilhams have been perfecting our very own Pop-Up mixes for many years. We only use the highest quality ingredients and use no glass beads, cork dust or cork balls.

With the BAF popup mix...if I use 80g of the mix and then add 20g of my own additives and powders (per 1 egg), will it still hold up a size 4 for 24 hours? Or will I need to reduce the amount or powders? Is it better to stick to the popup mix alone?
I have tried using John bakers hookbait mixes with cork balls but the mix will not dye to the colour I want. Which is annoying.
Cheers

The only way you'll know for sure is do a small mix and test it.
What colour do you want the JB?

You can always wrap the finished paste around a cork ball or knead some cork granules into the paste if it doesn't pop up.
A good guide is to pinch of a piece of paste, roll into a ball and drop into a glass of water, if it rises back to the top very quickly then it's good to go. This will be even more buoyant once the paste has dried out.
It also depends on the size of bait, for example, a 15mm sphere has a volume of just over half that of an 18mm, and the effect on which a size 4 will have of it will be in relation to this mass.
