Ah whisker 25's (in stock in Belgium carp shop, Very stable reel with a top drag), but it does not matter in this topic (not mid range price level)
Although this year I fished with the Emcast 25A and was satisfied with it i find the XTD is a level higher, I have both lying next to each other. and the XTD stays, with new washers and a small maintenance every 2 fishing sessions XTD is a very nice reel.

I've also used the xtd which is twice the price of the emcast 25a here and not is good, notorious for spool clicker failure and feel cheap.

Shimano lost the plot with the XTB's XTC's and XTD's, all average at best and over rated .... Inc6000 is half the price and a nicer reel, especially on a 10ft rod ...... If original poster prefers baitrunner then if you can find a set of Shimano XTR RA Super Baitrunners, these are a gem
I bought 3 emcast 25a to fit on my 10 foot rods a year and a half ago and love them
Before that I had ss2600 and they have been relegated to my pike rods
There is no comparison the 25a are streets ahead, smoother, better clutch and cheaper

In my opinion they are much better (emcast 25a) Everyone has a different preference
I've many sets of reels and probably the ones I like least are the ss2600, they are old, clutches not great and wobbly
I'm just going to hang onto them for another few years then will sell them on eBay to someone wanting to be “trendy” and willing to pay way over the odds, who probably wasn't even born when they came out

Agree, XTB LCs not up to par with the older XTA LCs. The feel of quality is not there as you expect from Shimano.

People do talk some crap on this forum... Castizm QD is an awesome reel - very light, superb clutch, mag sealed, smooth and very well made. - unlike the latest Shimano mini big pits. Had mine since they came out and still look as good as the day I got them. They are awesome on 10ft rods - balancing my 10ft hi s 2 3/4 perfectly. Hardly dated, What nonsense. Mid range? Yes, they are price wise, but more top end build wise. Oh and top end carp reels are circa £500, so half that and the mid point is £250, roughly what you'd pay for one. I appreciate some people can't add up, so hope the math isn't too difficult for them, bless

To take that logic ... a top end mainstream car (Rolls Royce for example) costs circa £250,000 and therefore makes a mid range car £125,000
. A mid range product is not necessarily a mid point in price from one extreme to other . I hope this isnt too difficult to understand

Ss2600's. They wobble and the line clip is rubbish but they look great and we all know that's what counts

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post suggestions, I am leaning towards the Penn affinty II 7000 or the Daiwa Emcast 25A's, I may even have a lead to purchase a used set of the Daiwas

I would never even consider putting my Penn's on my 10ft rods. They would not only look ridiculous but also be a completely imbalanced setup.
