In the last lockdown you were allowed unlimited time for outdoor recreation so night fishing was fine. This lockdown there doesn't seem to be anything about outdoor recreation allowed and is probably why a lot of lakes closed straight away. The Angling Trust then managed to persuade the government that fishing is “exercise” so was allowed again but days only (no actual times given but we all have a rough idea what days only are) It would be hard to argue you were exercising while fast asleep at 3am in your bivvy 😂

I dont think it particularly matters how you describe fishing, if its deemed ok, then either or I suppose. But if you are fishing as per the November lockdown as recreational, and fishing this lockdown as exercise, the rules were clear, you wasnt allowed to stay out overnight according to the government guidance.

Not every lockdown is going to be exactly the same. You was allowed to get your hair cut last lockdown but not this one so should we all moan about how comes it was allowed last lockdown but not this one?
I agree that fishing is fishing no matter what but it wasn't allowed at all at the beginning of this lockdown but now it's been allowed for days only, some people are never happy. If it was a choice of days only or no fishing then I'd happily take the days only

My point being, the excuse being used is you're not allowed to stay away from your home overnight, this rule was in place in November, so now why is it deemed you cant night fish?
Same rule, 2 different outcomes, btw I'm not trying to find loop holes, I fully support no night fishing, as should of been the case in November, but the logic of suddenly taking it away again doesnt make sense, it was there in black and white, except this time we now have to adhere to it

I don't think the rules are made objectively mate, or we may not be fishing at all. I agree though, a lockdown in Nov with night fishing should follow a lock down in Jan with the same. If we hadn't come out of lockdown for a religious holiday in December , and stayed in through to now, would we be still on the banks at night?

No I wouldn't shop anyone but I'd be dissapointed they were night fishing - for society as a whole and the fact that rule breakers will simply delay the date by which we can night fish.
This lockdown was because of higher hospitalisation numbers than before so it's clear to see why it is more restrictive.

Agreed, I would almost guarantee when the rules were knocked up, they didnt even know fishing overnight existed.
If we were still in the standard tier 4 scenario, then it's quite possible night fishing would still be allowed.

Spot on Yonny. Everyone can look to their own conscience and make a call on what they think is right. For me that is staying in.
Only a certain type of person grasses on another. If you've got a real problem with them go and have a chat and see what they have to say about their reasons.

A genuine question; at what point does fishing at night become overnight?
If I work 10 hour days, and want my allowed 'exercise', in the form of fishing from say 8-11pm when I finish work, technically I am night fishing. Is that within the rules?
Or do a late shift 2-10, get a couple of hours fishing exercise in before bed?
Right now even with awful weather, those are actually pretty good times for big roach on fishable rivers!
As it happens I have done some agency shifts, around 30 miles from home, early mornings from 4-8 then gone fishing for the rest of the day at the lake which is 14 miles away back towards home. Pike fishing at its best, and using work and fishing together to stay local.
