I see ESP ,have some 10fters ,retractable,out in 2.5 and 2.75 tc..these sound good as I've only ever used low TC,anyway ..
I'm always looking to minimalism,although I can do better,anyway ..has anyone bought 10fters ,hated them and went back to 12s. And if so why ..?

I have 10 foots and 12 footers. Given the choice i would use 12 footers all the time, no real limits
The 10 footers are ideal for one thing for me, pack down size. I find once i am going towards 100 yds I'm struggling, and the line fraps a bit. I have tried different lead sizes and drops from the tip. I find heavier leads better and to use more of a fast lob then a cast is better if that makes sense. Saying that i can only comment on 9 and 10 foot Scopes. Rod action and ringing, could be different.
Using a boat or bait boat it does not really matter. I guess then spool size does if your are fishing far out
If your not fishing that far out and want a compact set up, cracking

Some of these 10fters seem massively over gunned with oversized rings ,whether it's a fashion thing,I do not know ,hence why I'm looking at low tc ..and ESP has the 2.5 tc in ten ft..
I mainly fish close in anyway ,so distance is not a concern ..,I know about the ultimate bionics, so there is one option..

I have some Korum allrounders in 2.25 TC, and quite like them. I've only had a couple of moderate sized carp, but plenty of tench, on them but they've handled them well.

If you can find any, a company called Stix did some love 9 and 10 footers that included a 2.75 option I believe. I had some 3’s before I decided retractables weren’t for me, but a mate still uses my old set.

In summary what I have seen, even though they are short, the banks test curves is balanced out, not a 10 foot broom handle.

I've been pretty happy with 10ft retractables but having just picked up some second hand 2.75 12ft Torrix I'm toying with the idea of fishing with them for a bit and see if the few inches saved on pack down is actually worth it. They did feel better in my hand than my 10ft setup
I'm also thinking about getting some for ever rods which will definitely either be 12ft or 12.6
I noticed Cotswold do a.1.75 retractable which looked pretty well priced too

I have various sets of retractables including 1lb & 2lb 6ft'ers (Dwarfs) and 1.2lb and 1.75lb (Soniks) in 10ft ..... I use them off my boat predominantly, from trotting for silvers, to sitting on alarms for carp, and if i didnt have set of ESP Stalker rods in 8ft i would jump at a set of ESP 4ks retractables in 2.5lb.
These retractables have been peanuts to buy (in comparison to my other rods), are easier to transport, easier to set up (no lots of small small match rod size eyes to feed line thru) and have really enhanced my enjoyment/fun.
They may be a bit of compromise in terms of refinement when compared to my top end Drennan/ESP 12ft rods, yet I havent used these for well over a year now and have no plans to dig them back out in the near future.

I have bought a few retractable rods over the past year.
A set of Sonik Xtractor 1.75lb Avons have been excellent, a really nice action and a joy to play fish up to around 20lb without issue.
I then bought a set of ESP Quickdraw 4k 3.25lb, but moving from a very weedy venue to a weed free venue I decided they were much stiffer than I needed for the new venue.
I then purchased a set of Sonik Xtractor Custom 3lb as availability of 2.75lb retractables seemed to be rather limited, a dying breed as higher and higher test curves seem to be the norm.
The 3lb Xtractor Customs seem spot on for my needs with a good compromise of casting and fish playing action.
However if the Quickdraw 4k rods had been available in 2.5 or 2.75lb at the time, one of those would have been my choice as all my fishing tends to be close in and no more than 60 yards.
Apart from the ease of transportation for retractable which is well documented, these 10ft rods have performed excellently and my Century C2 2.75lb 12ft rods have remained in the garage and unlikely ever to get used again.
Looking back to when I started fishing, carp rods were 10ft, a few around 11ft and a typical non SU test curve was 1.75lb, perhaps the reason why 10ft rods(retractable or 2 piece) feel so "normal" for me. If distance fishing is not required then the extra 2 ft just wobbles around or catches in bushes or trees.

Alan Blair briefly mentioned two lower test curve Scopes are in test on one of his videos.
I think they were 1.75lb and 2.25lb.

I've got a 9ft 2 1/4tc Scope and used to have the Dymag Mobile System.
My biggest issue with short rods comes when fish go charging down the margins and you struggle to reach out far enough to control them.
The extra length of my Baby Ballistas (11ft 2 1/2tc) were considerably better in, well, every way, but I'm happier altogether being back on 12ft rods for the vast majority of my fishing.
I've got a 9ft 2 1/4tc Scope and used to have the Dymag Mobile System.

Exactly the reason why I mostly use 12 footers as fish often run down the margins and with the weed and reeds close to the bank these extra 2 foot make a difference sometimes. Plus they have somewhat nicer actions.
Having said that I have had a few retracteables. Didnt like the Cotswold 10ft 3.5lbs even though they certainly have their place for bigger waters.
The first series Nash Scope 10ft 3lbs are very nice though as are the 2.25lbs I had and regrettably sold.
Bought the new Sonik 10ft 1.25lbs and 2.25lbs and I have to say they are incredibly nice for the money. Not up there with the Scope 2.25lbs reg. quality but so good I often fish them at the moment.
The Sonik 2.25lbs has much more backbone than the Scope 2.25lbs (not available anymore and quite sought after as far as I know) but still is a nice playing rod so thats ideal for margin fishing and it cast really really well up to 60-70 yards with 60-80gr.

I have still got one of the Scope 2.25's in 10ft and love it. A mega versatile rod that I would use for everything from surface fishing through to float fishing/spinning for Perch and Barbel/Chub fishing.
