Quite fancy a Century thermo smock for xmas, just wondering if anyone's tried one, or any other suggestions in a similar price range (£75)

They do a hoody type smock but I guess it's what defines a smock lol

Ridgeline make the best waterproof smocks. Depends what you are after, warmth Vs waterproof?

I've got a couple of the Trakker pile and pertex copies of the Buffalo, they're very good but maybe more suited to someone more active than the average carper. Both are showing their age now, and I don't fancy forking out Buffalo prices.

Looking for warmth, showerproof would be a bonus, as long as it didn't reduce the breathability too much.
My lads got a Ridgeline jacket, and quite rates it.

They are excellent. More waterproof than warmth though... I just wear other layers underneath.

I've got a Deerhunter jacket, quite similar to a Ridgeline, and an older Musto Storm, very waterproof (28000HH) but the zips are starting to go. I've also got a couple of other waterproofs, a Sundridge and a Fortress flexothane, so well covered for waterproofs.
I've recently dug out a long stockman coat, thought it would be ideal for sitting under the brolly in the rain and will pretty much cover my legs if I have to go outside.

I'd seen that, but preorder only only, with no suggestion of timescale.
TBH I'd want to try on before I buy, so would go to my local, if he's stocking them.

I've got the century thermal smock for beach fishing and rate it highly for warmth but like any technical garment wear it with a decent base layer in my case I use heavy merino wool long sleeve zip neck but the smock is not waterproof and I wear a separate waterproof breathable smock. I've also got the korda thermal jacket as well which is more expensive but better tailored and better quality and although they claim it shower proof I would still wear a waterproof jacket over it if raining.

Thanks for the reply Goose, but I've ended up going down the jacket route. I've ordered a Snugpak SJ9, just hope it fits OK. My Trakker pile and pertex smocks will have to do me a while longer.

Did you order the fortis/snugpak or direct from snugpak
I found the fortis version all over the place with cut and sizing and went through every one in Johnson Ross to find one in the same size that wasn't too tight or too loose.

I must have tried 12 in either a medium and large.
I actually wanted a green one rather than the DPM version.

Hope so, I've gone green in XL, all my other jackets, jumpers etc are XL and fit OK. There are some variations in size but all are quite wearable. Fingers crossed.

My SJ9 arrived today and I'm pleased with it. Plenty of room in it if I need to wear more than a base layer under it, but not hanging off me. The sleeves are probably a little long for me, so bunch up slightly, but not a problem. Hopefully a good buy for £100.
Also tempted to buy a SJ9 for the winter, but really struggling with which size to buy.
There are numerous internet comments which vary from "its big, size down to get a size bigger and everything in-between"
If I look at the size charts, the measurements do look large and based on my chest size of 45inches I should get a large, but all my other clothing, including jackets are XXL, some a good fit, some a bit snug.
I realise that for a puffer jacket, a good fit is needed to trap body heat, so trying to guess between a XL or a XXL

I tried various jackets at the northern carp show one year, no two jackets were the same size..the size also differed from olive to dpm..I couldn't got 1 that fitted right and walked away...even the bloke.on the store was baffled.

Might be worth having a nosey at smocks here, my 'go to' shop for most green things for fishing

A quick update.
I ordered an XL which arrived today and I would say that the sizing is probably spot on to what I was expecting from the specified chest size of 48-51 inches and a XXL jacket with a chest size of 47-49 inches I tried on in M&S
Being a 46 inch chest it is a comfortable fit and has sufficient space for under layers if needed. If I had ordered the XXL as per all my other clothing without looking at the actual size chart, it would have been too big.
Hopefully its as warm for sitting around in as people say.

Is the bottom hem elasticated, or are there little chords to pull the bottom hem in?

There are two cords to pull in, one on the left, one on the right to tighten the bottom hem

I popped into Angling Direct and bought an SJ9 yesterday afternoon.
With having one of their membership thingys it was only £89.99.
Wore it briefly in the evening and it feels like a great buy.
I usually wear xl-xxl and the xl fitted nicely over a tee shirt and hoodie.

I was out netting a lake yesterday and as you can imagine it was a bit chilly. Once done and the waders were off, on went the new coat and I was so impressed with how quickly I warmed up that on the way home I called back into AD and bought a second one to tuck away in the cupboard.
