Just picked one ot these up, £149 seemed an absolute bargain. But upon the first set up, I was ready to bounce it off someone's head. Those absolutely stupid little poles at the back, is there an easy way to put them in, they are WAY too tight on mine, does it get easier? I was annoyed to realise you can't just leave them in when packing it away too. Amd the stupid storm poles that you screw in, but have to be pointing a certain direction, so you can't actually tighten them up. If I had bothered to do any research into how to put one up I wouldnt have bothered.

I bought the thing after reading rave reviews on here. It's complete junk, I didn't realise the Button to close it was an issue with everyone else too, took me ages to get it closed I just assumed I was doing something wrong. How anyone would think this brolly was good is beyond me. Avoid, even for the price.

You read the thread it's a right pain to get it down I struggled the other day for ages trying to collapse it and I can't get the small poles to fit flush so you can't roll it up tight it's almost a quarter open

You leave both the little poles and the storm poles attached when packing down, it really does reduce the faff in the set up and pack down processes

I brought mine off the reviews, it's a good brolly with plenty of room but I did prefer my previous Wychwood tactical brolly

and simply fold in for packing up and for setting up they swing down easy peasy and I have only put mine up and down 3 times in the garden and its been so easy ?
not had any trouble with the button maybe its a knack ?

The small poles at the back are so tight, I had to bend them to fit them. I tried to put it down with them still in and they wouldn't fold over, the material is too tight. I'm guessing there are some differences between different peoples brollies, as the stitching on mine all looks a bit wonky.
I'll give it a couple of sessions to see how I get on, but I'm not impressed so far. It should have come with quick release fittings for the storm poles, the fact you can't tighten them up is really janky.

No issues with the poles on mine, the little back ones have stayed on since day one. The front ones don't need to be screwed up tight, once the peak pole is connected, that prevents them from moving.

Cheers, my rear poles won't fold in like his does. Hopefully after a bit of use it they will. Does beg the question though. If they can stay fitted, why aren't they fitted in the factory?
Glad to see storm poles can be left on. That would make life a lot easier.

Different strokes for different folks and all that but you can't say it's poorly designed or cheaply made as there are plenty of very happy customers out there, me being one. I had a Tempest and I really liked it, switched to the Solar about 18 months ago and genuinely prefer it. I find the quality better and I find it quicker and easier to put up and down. It may not suit you which is fair enough but feel you are going a bit strong on those last comments

Is yours cammo? I saw a cammo one on the bank a few years ago and was really impressed with the quality it looked. Mine isn't cammo, and it all feels, a bit, cheap and chinese. I'll pop it up in the garden later see if the back poles are just me being an idiot. I lost my temper with It yesterday.

I have the green brolly not the camo. The build quality on mine is top notch. The little poles when inserted properly really cause no headaches whatsoever

Video helps a lot. I've never inverted to pack down my old brolly which is probably why I found the small legs a struggle and ended up taking them back out. The video makes it seem nice and easy. Will probably get it out later and sort it out and get the storm poles in too. Nice one

Had one for 18 months or so, never had a problem putting it up or down, and I don't use the brolly pole either. I Never take off the storm poles or the rear ones, don't need to.

Had a go with it. Job done and much easier having watched the video. Wrapped up nice too, still using two straps to get it to pack down tighter but that's no bother.

Glad you found the video helpful you will now find once you have done it a few times you can put it up and down super fast

As I already said I push the brolly up and the button stays in plastic housing there is no button to push the button not sticking out pushing the button does nothing there's something wrong with it that's common sense

I do agree with the button thing. It's not as pronounced as my old one so it's not as obvious to it being pressed in but it's the slightest of things on a superb bit of kit in other aspects.
In regards to those saying about the storm poles. I've put quick release adaptors on and it's fine, alternatively using ‘O' rings to tighten up would be just as good as you'd only do it once. Cheapest solution as they are few quid for large number of them and the thread size is the same as bite alarms and various other things we use.

Got mine out again today. Managed to get the rear poles in, but it was a real struggle. I had to do it with the brolly down. I heard a bit of creaking when I put it up but can't see any damage, I managed to get it folded away with all the poles on it too, so I'm much happier with it. Wouldn't be impressed with it if I'd paid RRp though.
This is the rear pole thar was the worst. It was fully seated at the top, so trying to get it into the bottom part was a bit of a nightmare

I'd send that picture to solar, and also measure the pole to see if it's the pole or the shape of the brolly that's at fault.

Mine is like that when you pull the tag inwards. If you push it outwards it fits, tight, but it fits. You have to get in your hands and knees and fit the pole in the position it'll be in and this isn't an issue. Not sure if that's normal but it's what I found.

Makes no sense at all. Pretty much everything you buy has a guarantee. Houses, cars, laptops, phones, etc. all in place because if there is an issue you can get it fixed or replaced.
Rolex come with a guarantee, not sure you can say that they rely on it can you.
If you don't like the product, return it and move on. I don't think you'll convince long term users who love it that the product is crap. Seems like a pointless exercise really.

I put my little poles in before even trying to erect it ! as per the instructions that came with mine
very very tight to fit bit of a struggle but the material stretch's so they DO fit and wont fall out in the future ( I had to put a kinda bow in mine so they sprang in place )
they are as stated a one time fit designed to stay in place for the life of the shelter

I bought one in the TT sale, used it last week. It's fine, it's an umbrella. I put it up like every other umbrella I've used over the last 30 years. Who cares what the button feels like as long as when you press it the umbrella collapses

I would think because the pole set probably comes to them pre bagged from a different manufacturer... Having someone open up every brolly to fit them is extra time(costs).

Still, why aren't these poles fitted from factory if your supposed to fit them before you first put it up? Seems blindingly obvious to me that if a part comes seperate when you buy something, that usually, it means you're supposed to remove it before you pack it away.

From what I saw in photo your pole is far to long if fitted by force end up pulling on stitching then be leaking as doing a brew said he never used them for a while maybe take them out not use them or find out what length they should be and pull off rubber cut it down put rubber back on

the rib extensions remove the need for fitting side storm poles
and as stated are DESIGNED to be a one time fitment and mine SEEMED to be too long too !!!!!

I've put storm poles adapters and repaired the wire on various umbrellas in the past, TFG, Nubrolli, Fox, etc.
The umbrella spokes always look too long to fit in the sleeves on the material, it is a wobble to get them in and out.

When it rains, no matter how I set it up, water builds up, I'm various places, and them it dumps it out on the floor in one go. Especially annoying when you're trying to sleep.
Got it stuck open the other day. Would not release, normally brollys you need to push the mechanism upwards to take the pressure off the button, which you can then press and release. Most times I just keep pressing the button and after a few goes it flies shut. But the last time it was stuck open for a good 5 mins, I was close to giving up.
I can't be bothered with the hassle of trying to send it back, and I'll probably have to refund someone if I sold it to them. It'll probably donate it to some local kid. No idea what I will get to replace it. I shall be doing more research this time.

I wonder if something has changed I'm manufacturing or who supplies parts. I bent a tent peg putting it in hard ground the first time I used it, and I bent it back by hand. Literally just held each end I'm my hands and bent it back.

It sounds like either quality control went out of the window or someone changed the pegs. As you've had multiple issues with your brolly it could be either and if I was you I'd be far from happy but sounds like something has changed somewhere in the supply chain as mine functions perfectly and is great
It sounds like either quality control went out of the window or someone changed the pegs. As you've had multiple issues with your brolly it could be either and if I was you I'd be far from happy but sounds like something has changed somewhere in the supply chain as mine functions perfectly and is great

I said couple of weeks ago maybe they changed the factory where there made offered a better deal and price so there made cheaper so able to sell them cheaper that's why we having problems maybe that's the answer

It sounds like, as said below, there's a dud batch out there which is a shame.

because if you look on Solars page the RRP is exactly the same !!!! not been discounted at all !!
so its only the dealers that discount them and have a little price war amongst themselves as thy are having on most solar products at the moment
the TRUTH is you 2 are always bleating on and I am not saying you havent got issues
but like any mass produced item you will get a tiny % of faulty ones luckily warrantee`s exist for these rare occasions
I only know of 2 people that have one and both are over the moon and have not had any issues
plus of course the forum members that are happily using them with no problems

I bought one for £135 in the TT sale. I'd say it's worth about that money. Material is fine, nothing special. I didn't have issues with the extra plastic ribs as other did, they were tight but once they were in that's that. I'd say that they are pretty pointless, same for the peak gutter pole thing.
Coverage is fine, goes up and down fine, pegs are fine. Supplied storm poles are cheap junk but do the job, I leave them in as you do need them to get the height at he front. The button doesn't always drop it, bit annoying but don't panic and press it another couple of times and it will always go down!
Tempest 100T goes up quicker, gives you more room, more height, packs down smaller and weighs about the same. No need for storm poles and the materials are comparable.
For a bit of nostalgia of using a standard brolly and for the price the Solar is decent. The 100T is better or equal in pretty much every way, but costs a bit more.

yes hopefully my health will allow me to get out on the bank and use mine this summer
but !!!!!
I have however put it up and down in my garden 5 or 6 times as when I bought it when they first came out
and there wasnt a groundsheet made for it at that time
so I put a sheet down erected it and drew around and cut out a groundsheet then as I had used a bit of a heavy sheet I bought a much lighter sheet and did it again
and then the bstds bought out a groundsheet lol
any way I have bought a pair of the excellent Cygnet Slimline Storm Poles as they are so light and can be left on all the time if I want
( so again put it up and down with and without them )
there is no question I CAN EASILY put it up and down faster than my previous tempest
not that it matter at all
as I go fishing for pleasure to chill and relax unless its pissing down I dont give a flying how long it takes
same as a cuppa I actually love using my trangia takes a while to boil but who cares ?? some people really need to take a chill pill and learn to be laid back

100t with infill panel is near double the price of the Solar though, and nearly 3 times if you got the solar for £135.
Does sound like there are some duds around as mine has none of the issues posted in here.

Did anyone manage to find a mozzi mesh that is a decent fit on the undercover? Got eaten last night despite layers of incognito, there were hundreds of them on the inside of the brolly this morning.

Yea, I use both the cream and the spray as the lake I fish can be pretty bad. Don't like having a front on a shelter unless the weather is awful and usually get away with it with incognito. I'm aware it needs reapplying, I was up twice in the night spreading it on and only in bed 6 hours, last night they were out to get me!

They have the undercover 60 inch brolly for £54.99 but no mozzy mesh for the brolly system. I'm not sure that there is one for it sadly hence trying to find a best fit

I believe this thread discusses the undercover brolly system rather than the 60” with no sides. I bought one when they were going cheap and now use it all the time over a 100T. It's lighter and just as quick to go up.
I've had no issues putting it up or down. Not sure what other people expect from a simple brolly, but this one suits me fine.

Correct and I agree with you. The only complaint I have about this brolly is the lack of a mozzy mesh front. If that was offered in my opinion it would be a perfect brolly system

The Abode one works out ok. Not a perfect fit, but it hooks over the cap and covers the front down to the ground. Decent mesh and comes with a needless amount of pegs.
