I'll start ...if you love micro lrf ,or sea fishing ,this area is hard to beat ,no course fishing at all though in the rivers ..

I'm pretty good in Hertfordshire

Almost in the colne valley
Almost in the Lea valley
an hour on a reasonable day to the closest beach
40 mins from grafham an hour Rutland
5 mins m25 and m1 lol

North to mid Kent Dartford Darenth Maidstone Snodland
Like bloody Limoges around there lol

Yes in my minds eye ,I always had this image of Kent being really good for fishing of all types ..


What about Scotland area,surely good for sea and river Salmon fishing ,plus low population density...there is some good
course fishing up there as well ,apparently..?

Scotland is predominantly game, trout, charr, Ferrell trout and salmon etc. as I saw. There is pike and course. Did the NC 500 a couple of years ago, took my spinning rod, nearly everywhere I stopped was sewn up by fishing clubs or private owners and you could pay stupid money for a day ticket.

Sea fishing is great, caught loads of mackerel and pollack on small lures and as a whole is free

Some say, for all round angling happiness that's course, sea ,game,peace and quiet ,and value for money ,then up North is best ,especially near coastal areas ..

Would those that know or live up that way or fish up that way agree..?

On my doorstep, loads of carp over forty pound in several venues if that's your thing. Few places with old leney's that few know of. Beach a stone throw away . Great bass and mullet fishing in the harbours and rivers. Record barbel came from a local river but rivers not as many as there were .loads of small streams with trout and chub. Lots of small/juvenile seatrout but the proper fresh run from the sea are harder to locate and catch. Scotland is superb and there are places to fish for trout, seatrout and salmon at not to much money. Been up there twenty three times in the last three years both fishing and on the bike.also within ninety minutes drive the Avon ,test and tributaries, yately, burghfeild,wraysbury ect ect.

In response to the original question, i was going to say 'the wet parts' ....

I'd have to say that if you're just after big carp, then the north isn't the best, but if you're looking at all angling disciplines, scenery, value and less packed venues and stretches of water, then I do feel very lucky up here.

My sister for same strange reason moved to Bolton...and they do pea wet....bloody pea juice on your chips....

Saying that is pretty close to Wigan who have pie sandwiches...

Back to thread - id say down south is generally a lot better. Once you get below Birmingham the stamp of fish improves> though there are some gems up north - just usually a a lot more on the quiet

I know it is not Suffolk!

In terms of carp, tench and chub and 'pure' barbel fishing I would say the Lee Valley, although in barbel alone its probably the Trent.

While the Colne Valley has history it is not like the early Yateley (Basil, Heather) Savay and Harefield years when the waters were headline making.

Oi! That's Bolton-ist. That said, It has turned into a ****hole and I was born, raised and lived there for a lot of my life. Not much in way of quality carp waters tho....

I grew up next to 'Carp Mecca' Yateley in the 90s, now fish the Colne Valley. Both hard to beat as far as lovely big fish go but I could do without the M25.

If I could plonk myself anywhere now and didn't have to bother about a commute I think I would go for the big Cambridgeshire Fens. one big fish a year and the sunset and sunrises would be enough for me.

Spent a bit too much time there myself... always preferred the black peas on bonfire night to pea wet on chips

As for fishing, I think Bradshaws is still going strong. Not fished it for a couple of years but it had its good points and it's bad like any other venue.

A 5 mile radius around baston fen would beat most areas I'm sure.

Cambridgeshire has some incredible big fish waters, mind blowing.

I live near Slough which is nothing to be proud of but am blessed with more water on my doorstep than I can ever hope to fish. I don't think I've ever driven more than 30 minutes to go fishing, my current lake is 5 minutes and I often have it to myself

Tell me about it, used to live near Huntingdon and was spoilt for choice.

I now live in Weston Super Mare and can't remember the last time I saw clear water apart from in the Maldives lol
