I'm about to pick up a set of NG's 2.75lb
I had these around 22 years ago and had problems with the blanks going white when damp over night. Apart from getting then rebuilt, is anything available to treat\polish the blanks with which could help prevent this happening?

You might be lucky and get a set that doesn't go white. There were some that didn't.

Mine did, I tried polish with Turtle wax but it did nothing. My understanding is it's moisture under the coating that is the issue so the only way to fix it is to completely strip and re-apply.

It didn't bother me much so I didn't bother.

Cotswold used to do a 'kit' to remove milkiness from whippings etc - bought the kit and never used it and its its since disappeared within the bowels of my garage! May be worth dropping them a line . . .

I had the same problem with mine. After trying to wax and polish I decided to bite the bullet and had them rebuilt. It was well worth doing as they are a fantastic rod

I regret selling mine and I'm looking forward to picking these up and using them. How much does a rebuild cost?

I had mine done by Caine Plumb down in Norfolk. I think I paid about £100 a rod

Try car wax, regular

They just keep going and thats the key point, no effect on performance, i belive it's the resin, probably wrong, bought some NCS they did the same, now using ADV1s, no problem

Are they pre autoclave?

Look on the bright side.

If they were Nash you would be told that going white was a desirable enhanced feature which made them better and would get charged more for them.

The varnish cracks and water gets underneath.
The only way to deal with it is keep the rods dry, don't take them out of the cupboard

If the rods do have this problem they will need stripping and rebuilding.

But they aren't Nash and for a high end rod maker to produce such a poorly finished product isn't really acceptable but some do accept it. If it were Nash or Fox they would have been slagged off all over social media but it's century so acceptable.

luckily my 4 have not shown any sign of this but if they did I would not care they are not wood rods so unaffected by moisture its purely cosmetic and would not bother me in the slightest

The milky white issues were from many many years ago, there hasnt been any issues like this for years.

My SPSU's and my X-lites both go white when wet

Edit: not the blanks just the whippings.

My Ng su went like it .a lot of there rods aren't lacquered any more so can't happen.

My Tricast Legends and North Western Carbons have never done it, but they were built in the 80's/90's when spirit-based resins were used on the whippings, unlike the Water based they use these days.

I presume with Chinese made Rods (Which never seem to do it) must still use Spirit based resins. But Health & Safety is not a high priority over there – just mass production as fast as possible, Spirit does dry dramatically faster.

My stealth graphenes never done it but only used them twice. Just bought a set of 3lb mk2 c2's so hopefully they will be fine. I would like to hope the issue was sorted now. My mates cq's have never went milky and he has had them a year and been out in all weathers.

Just spent a couple of days on the bank. The blanks did not go white.

What lovely rods. I'd forgotten how nice they were.

If there Autoclaves they will have a stainless coller just above the butt grip saying Century on (not a end cap)

But what if they are custom builds ?

Mine are autoclave but have no identifiable marks, I know they are as mine were built by Mark Tunley.

Cheers mine were built in 2006 so assuming the blanks were of that year also 😀.

I used to have a set of the newer NGs in 12ft 3.5lb, they were amazing rods, very light and great for playing fish, but a bit soft for what I was using at the time, (solid bagging).

I'd defintley recommend them for fishing shorter ranges, really nice action,
