I got a spomb rod,I don't use it much ,well last time I used it was two years ago,I still catch plenty ,fishing my little ways..

Be honest ,how many don't use a spomb,or do people just use theirs because,everyone else does...?

Very rare. And only on lakes where 100+ yards baiting is required. Love a catapult or hand lowered rigs

100% , I've even seen people spomb to a tree that you could under arm bait too. Never understood

I ....have even seen someone use a baitboat to do what you describe all they had to do was pass the rod around a small birch...omg..

Anyway ,I thinking of shifting my spod rod at some point, it's another 'carry' ,I wish I'd never bought it I caught loads before,loads after ,and blanked either way just they same..

Just interested if anyone else thinks like me ..

I see what you mean...for me though,I looked at it ,and thought ..nah,not for me...

I know some places really really respond to the bash of a spomb etc,if you did that on a place I fish I might as well go home kiss of death that would be...

Never owned one.

I'm with you, got one, can't remember the last time I used it. Catapult for me, on the rare occasion I use particles, tend to use a scoop (close in work). And also, that spodding business is bloody hard work as you get older.

And as for those bait boat users who use them to bait up far bank margins, walk around you lazy sods!! I've seen them doing it to avoid a 100yd walk,

I use small spods, always within 30-40 yards but mostly about 6. Hemp, caster, pellet and maggot baiting is a bit more accurate than spraying them out by hand or a catapult.
I don't bother with a spod rod though. Well, a short carp rod or my trusty 7' sw custom build that packs into a rucksack and doubles up as a good pike or stalking rod.

I ditched the dedicated spod and marker rods for a 13' SPM which does both - saying that its primarily a marker rod as I hate spombing unless absolutely necessary / seagulls affect the use of catty or stick / small particles eg corn need applying

Good mention about seagulls etc,forgot all about them..

I would still be sticking boilies out to a marker float if I could get more than 10% of baits past the seagulls. Even catapult is a lottery these days with the black heads.

I'm lucky as there aren't that many on the lakes I fish.

Have to agree. On my lakes you need to bait up after dark unless you use a spod or spomb. One shallow lake 5 to 7 ft with very wily fish a spomb is the kiss of death. Use it and you might as well go home I less you are doing a session of several days and prepared to wait 2 days for a bite.

Cannot beat the use of a float when boilie fishing imo. just the visual is great. Most people turn to the spomb to combat the gulls, but if you wait until just before dark you can still get them out no issues. Defo an edge as a lot of fish in most lakes don't see the spread baiting scenario anymore because of the gulls.

My Bruce Ashby Rocketeer and marker rods are as new as the day I bought them .

Don't fish huge lakes anymore and truthfully hate the brigade who thrash it to a foam .

Definitely going to shift my spod,marker kit,I'll keep a mini spomb for short range hemp on a carp rod..

If I can't sell it ,will just give it away....

I use a remote controlled Lancaster bomber. It can drop 5 kg of bait in an area of about 100 square yards.

Make sure you've got a model of Gibson on the cockpit..lol

probably spom 15% of the time, baiting up, whils fishing, just another thingy up your sleve
great for pikeing, does get them going , my biggest edges, sorry that sounds so fukin carpy
are baiting and accuracy, guys practice accuracy till it hurts

Very rarely see a spomb used on one of my two waters, I will still use one for hemp & rolled porridge oats even though I fish at less than 20m distance. A catapult just doesn't get the hemp out that far tbh. I use the small cheap generic Chinese spombs on an old battered 3.5lb tc rod, an old emblem & 40lb braid from China...perfect

This is my preference too - except with particles and then I feel as tho I have no choice but to spomb.

However, if I get the chance to prebait when I'm not fishing then I will use a spomb because then I can get a lot of bait in a smaller area and I'll be back in a day or two to hopefully fish that same spot with basically a small mesh bag of crumb over hopefully a good area.

I'm quite partial to absolutely saturating boilie crumb in added hydros and tiger slime with a few nuts mixed in. I prefer a spomb for this mix.

It may just be one spomb worth going out there or it might be a whole bucket of mix but often when actually fishing it's less for me
