I see the advert earlier as long as your able and energetic as they ask I dont see why age is a factor.
I see they're offering two meals a day, full travel reimbursed but try to limit it to every four weeks Korda tackle to the tune of £250 per week and 28 nights fishing (which I assume is the pay per say for your time) only thing it doesn't mention is accommodation 4 weeks in a bivvy would be testing but I'm sure the bailiffs would have accommodation of some sort onsite or nearby.

In tackle... 12h of work min and after that you can go and lay down in your bivvy and cast rods out all that for some tackle... looks like a bargain

I see absolutely no reason why a 64 yr old who has the right level of experience shouldn't be considered. The retirement age in this country will probably be seventy plus if I get there. I work on sites with plenty of blokes in their sixties still doing physical work. I say go for it if it suits your lifestyle. You only live once.

My Uncle n Aunt ,employed older staff on their fishery ,these staff had a wealth of knowledge, and great interaction with guests,some of whom remained friends..
There's a lot of perceived ageism, to be honest a lot of younger anglers/bailiffs don't have the life skills and conversation, ability that older and more relaxed people have,not in all cases ,but some..
Like I mentioned,go for it Goose..if you don't like it,you can always come home to 'dog eat dog UK'...

True, but now is definitely not the time to be looking at moving out, putting stuff in storage, probably having to resign etc, then find a new property, new job etc when you get back

It sounds like a dream job for someone ....BUT is it legal ?
i,m guessing by not actually offering a " Wage " they think the are getting around the EU employment laws ?
France maybe different but here in Spain you cannot just rock up now and start working as in the old days
now you have to be resident to work legally in that EU country and if someone (Employer ) says don't worry about it i have a cunning plan to get around it ....run for the hills as the taxman / government offiacial might not share there views as you would be taking a job that could be done a local who was legal and paying taxes in that country

Yeah I expect they'll have done their homework too. They got stung big time for tax in the early days so you'd think they learned their lesson.
I personally think this would be a class opportunity for some young carp nut with no responsibilities. You have the rest of your life to build a career. Enjoy it while you can. Might even look half decent on a youngsters CV.

It's the same as the young seasonaires in the Alps for me. Work hard for next to nothing but get to ski/snowboard some of the best runs in Europe every day. But in this case you get to fish one of the best big fish waters in France every night. It's a win for some young lad imo.

I have seen one of the recent ex bailiffs (well I'm pretty sure it is) he's a dead ringer if not bailiffing on another lake in France who had been there sometime and would of only left recently, it was on some recent social media post so obviously they need to replace him, on another note I see yesterday the Korda podcasts are returning soon I wonder who they've replaced the last guy with.

It's perfectly legal for a rich family in Twickenham to pay an Au Pair absolute buttons if they are providing food and accomodation, because it's classed as subs, or "pocket money" as the toffs have called it. People who work here illegally in car washes earn more than you will cooking 15 bacon sandwiches at 6am. In this case, the £250 of tackle is merely another way to drive wages down even further.
I know someone who went to bailiff over there, Left a very secure job here to live in a caravan on site. I think he lasted less than three months.
You'll be a dogs body 24/7, and when you get fed up with it, don't expect them to pay a week's wages on top for your trip home.

thinking about it now. It's probably just a way of getting around french employment law. I'd imagine with us no longer being part of the EU. To work in most European countrys now youd need a work visa.

I think this is probably aimed at a young person who is super keen with their fishing and wants the experience. If I was 18 and just out of education then free travel to Gigantica, free tackle and food each week, free board and free fishing on a lake that I could never have afforded in return for menial daily work would have suited me just fine.
Learn a thing or two from more experienced anglers, mess about in boats, fix swims, wash up and clean the lavs. Would have been all good with me. At that age I spent a summer stuffing envelopes where the only pleasure was a funny name every now and then. Got paid a lot less than £250 (inflation allowed for!) and still spent it on tackle, beer and bait anyway.
It's not a career move or a job to support a family or pay a mortgage, but I don't think you can expect that. It will suit the right person though and I would have been all over it 20 years ago!

Personally I'd want someone with a bit of experience, the sort who wont be put off if "things need sorting". I'd imagine there are plenty of circumstances that could arise which maybe a younger inexperienced bailiff could shy away from, whereas an older person might be able to handle it well

To be honest I don't have social media so haven't read the full advert. Is the job offer for a head bailiff or a helper? The former deserves more than a gap year agreement. The latter is an opportunity to help out and learn. A well fed apprenticeship if you like.

Legally if it's a job then wages must be French min wage. Holiday and sickness benefits must be included and French tax & social payments are due. All French employment law must be adhered to even if it's a British Company that is the employer. The employer can deduct the cost of accommodation and food and uniform BUT it must be a reasonable amount. In the Alps this season the going rate is about euro400 per month. The process is first the employer issues a work contract and proof that the job has been advertised in France and that no EU candidates are available. Then with these proofs the employer applies for a French work permit and when this is issued the employee applies in person for a French working visa. This process takes at least 2months and currently is taking 3 or 4 months. Any work offered outside of these terms is 'black' or illegal and the employer risks big fines and the employee risks deportation and barred entry in future to the whole EU. Thanks Brexit!!
