Has anyone ever had any issue keeping rods in the loft due to some of the extreme temperatures up on there in summer?
Better than keeping them in the shed I thought, but maybe not. ..

I've a few rods in the loft for years all still fine.. id say having no direct sunlight on them helps.

Have had upwards of 60 rods and probably 100 blanks at any one time in the loft without any probs.

Try fishing a lake, less chance of a blank, even though it might be a slim one on some lakes, you've a better chance than catching in the loft!!!!

I think if I had a cane rod,I wouldn't keep it in the loft,as said diverse temps could cause some kind of issue,delamination a set even even if it was hung up..
Worse case,a wobbly or bent Barder Bishop..

Exactly ...I'll.just shove my two custom cane rods and BB centrepin,Richard Walker magnesium copies ,up the barn, they be fine up there ,with the mice...lol

I will be honest with you i cant stand the things ive had a few and they are just horrible to use.I dont get the golden scale club malarkey , i feel sorry for chris yates he was born in the wrong century his tackle was just *****.Modern tackle is so much better to use .

Last time I used a cane rod was in 1975,was my dad's..
I love centrepins though and Mitchell reels,I use em on modern rods,...
I fish with a coupla chaps who use cane,and boy they can fish,no problems there, but ,yes I see what your saying..
I know some members of the GS ,they use allsorts of materials to fish with...myself ,I say each to their own ..,I appreciate the level of workmanship in the retro world,people like Leszak,or WM+,awesome awesome skills..

I love using centrepins , mitchells i was happy to leave back in the early 80s .I have acquaintances in the gs too fished at redmire with them numerous times in the past, took one of them 35 mins to land a 9lb carp on crap gear .

Those Braders are show pieces to display but not fit to use like a modern rod unless you want to replace them every few years.

I remember playing a 22lb carp for 40 minutes on a 10ft 1.75lb tc. Glass fibre rod. Was my pb for many years. However I could land it in 15 minutes on today's tackle... I wouldn't go back to those rod and reels. It's called progress for a reason.

Just as you build carbon rods, I build cane rods.
We just have different approaches. You build on pre bought in carbon blanks using epoxy high build resins and pre bought in handle fittings.
I build my blanks from scratch from bamboo culm, make my own handles and furniture, ferrules and use more traditional varnishes. The other difference is that I don't need to be harsh about someone who does things different to me.
Horses for courses. If you don't understand it there's no real need to be rude about it. I'd have thought that a craftsman would appreciate any rod builds whether they use them or not.

We are all brothers of the angle,enjoying and taking in all that the countryside and natural world has to offer..
It would be boring if we were all the same..

Grim !! Using inferior tackle is certainly not a leveller . You definitely wont hit anywhere near 100 yards with a cane rod but you will fish 10 yards with a carbon one ! Alot of your recent posts are about not buying tackle using old tackle etc , so you are trying to influence peoples tackle choices as you say .If everyone thought like you tackle shops would close at a faster rate they are now. If you read my post it says i hate cane rods not that no one should use them .

I know he was involved in probably the best fishing film ever made, often imitated, by a professional cinematographer (Hugh Miles) not some wannabe with a go pro. I know he has written several books. Chris is probably the only author regarding angling that i would read so nothing to do with high horse either. Im sure you would rather drive a modern car than a model t ? It's obvious a modern carbon rod can hit 100 yards,that's not in any doubt,however,all things considered, you can either fish or you cannot,this includes having an empathy ,knowledge of watercraft ,and the watery environment..in which your intended species reside.
No amount of super carbon blanks,latest reels and tech can compensate for that..
That's all things considered remember,many people try to buy success,and fail...a lot..!
I note you mentioned, about frugality and my post,I don't know if you actually read it correctly,but to clarify, it was about myself ,trying not to buy unnecessary crap in tackle shops ,and taking a year out from buying stuff other than bait or hooks ,unless something broke,...thats not intended influence,just good common sense,...
Or,to put it in reverse materialistic context, you could be ,yourself considered contributing to the demise of local tackle shops as you build rods,...rods that although are made to order,but could be purchased in a local tackle shop,and most likely ,very good off the peg in a shop..
So clearly,there is no definitive,no right or wrong,it's about personal goals and choices,..however I don't diss people in their tackle choices,especially when skill,will make the final objective achieved ,and not the materials used...

I have no problem at all with chris yates , i have met the bloke twice have a signed print of him hanging in my workshop .I also have no problem with people using whatever tackle they like ,infact im sure in the redmire video chris disses as you say bob because of his alarms ? its a forum . Split cane rods in my opinion are inferior in every way to modern carbon rods the same as mitchell reels are inferior to 90% of modern reels but if you you want to use them fine.

I agree though. I had a split cane hand me down, snapped at the butt just behind the reel, had another with a fiberglass tip section, rhubarb. Some quality carbon around these days
